MLB DFS Top Pitcher Breakdown Strategy | Fanduel and DraftKings Monday June 13th, 2022 MAIN SLATE

MLB DFS pitching breakdowns are key to starting a winning lineup. Finding the best matchups form the foundation to a cash game lineup, and the sneaky matchups exploiting deeper dives find those under-the-radar pitchers capable of winning huge tournament money.  But, knowing which pitcher is best suited for which DFS game format sets you apart from the rest of the casual, fishy players out there just lighting their money on fire nightly.

Our MLB pitching guru, MDell (Matt), walks you through the strategy and metrics for today’s slate.  For an even deeper dive into timeless MLB Pitching Strategy, click here.  And, for proper definitions of the many stats used below, head to Fangraphs.com.  They are easy to find and learn.

Sandy Alcantara @ PHI

Alcantara has been the best pitcher for the Marlins and one of the best pitchers in the MLB so far this season. He’s allowing under a .200 batting average against both sides of the plate and has been better in the strikeout department on the road. Alcantara has been hovering around the 5-6 strikeout mark in games but has recently shown a little uptick. The Phillies don’t have great numbers against him outside of Harper really as they are hitting just .174 against him with a .584 OPS. They also have a 24.5% strikeout rate against him. Philly has been really good lately against RHP, but Alcantara has just been so good it’s hard to overlook it. ALL FORMATS

Aaron Nola vs MIA

One thing that has surprised me so far this season with Nola, he has been better on the road than at home. He has always been a guy who pitched better in his home park than on the road. This season he still has been really good at home, but has allowed 7 HR compared to just 3 on the road. Hitters are still hitting just .171 against him at home. If he can reduce the HR he allows, his numbers would look nearly identical. Nola still has under a 1.00 WHIP on the season and doesn’t walk many hitters. So far, he has a 42% strikeout rate at home this season, allowing just a .189 wOBA. Miami comes into this game hitting the ball well against RHP, but I think we have a pitcher’s duel in this one tonight. ALL FORMATS

Alek Manoah vs BAL

Great matchup with Baltimore here for Manoah. BAL comes into this game with a 24.4% strikeout rate against RHP over the last 2 weeks. Manoah has been really good for the Jays this season and is normally good for 6+ innings. he isn’t a massive strikeout guy, but has times where he can get 7+. This matchup with Baltimore I think he can go 6-7 innings with 6 K’s. The Orioles don’t have too much history against him, but the only guy to have a lot of success is Ryan Mountcastle. I like his upside in this game tonight. ALL FORMATS

Yu Darvish @ CHC

Darvish had a really good start last time out against the tough Mets offense. Now he has a little easier matchup with the Cubbies who just got embarrassed in the weekend series against the Yankees. The Cubs aren’t striking out a ton against RHP in the last few weeks, but the Mets weren’t either and Darvish was able to go 7 innings with 6 K’s in that start. One concern I have here with Darvish are his home/road splits. He has been really bad on the road so far this season. I do like his upside, but more of a GPP play for me tonight. GPP

Brady Singer @ SFG

This is a strict GPP/MME type play. Singer has a tough matchup against the Giants here. San Fran comes into this game though with a 24.8% strikeout rate against RHP and are hitting just .213. They have a ton of power against righties and it isn’t like Singer is the greatest pitcher. Singer has gone 5+ innings in 5 straight starts. He really struggled against Houston, but had a decent start against Toronto last time out. Again, another tough matchup here. GPP

Ian Anderson @ WSH

Have to try and find some cheaper options on a slate we don’t have a ton of great pitchers. Anderson has been respectable in the last couple of starts. Washington doesn’t strikeout a ton, but Anderson isn’t a big strikeout guy anyways. He does have 14 K’s over his last 2 starts, but has allowed a bunch of runs lately. Anderson has been a bit better on the road this year though, allowing 14 ER in 35 innings, striking out 31. He has allowed just a .235 batting average against on the road so far this year. GPP/SP2 on DK

DINGER OF THE DAY

Jun 5, 2022; Arlington, Texas, USA; Texas Rangers right fielder Kole Calhoun (56) in action during the game between the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners at Globe Life Field. Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Kole Calhoun

This isn’t a great matchup for the Rangers here, but Calhoun has seemingly found something he loves against Javier. In just 10 ABs, Calhoun is 7-10 with a double and 3 HR. Calhoun has been good against RHP so far this year he has hit 5 of his 7 HR and has a ISO of .175 against RHP.
