My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.
- Shane McClanahan
- Dylan Cease
- Joe Ryan

Washington Nationals @ Texas Rangers (-160)
Pitchers:
Nationals – Jackson Tetreault
Rangers – Glenn Otto
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. Are we going to see the TEX lineup wake up? I will be on them yet again today but I am losing confidence in them as a full-stack. I think that Otto has been respectable enough that I may just mini-stack WSH while Soto and Cruz are struggling.
WAS 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Josh Bell
GPP Note: Team ISO of .170 over the last week.
TEX 5-star plays: Corey Seager
4-star plays: Adolis Garcia, Marcus Semien
GPP Note: Team ISO of .177 over the last week.
Pittsburgh Pirates @ Tampa Bay Rays (-220)
Pitchers:
Pirates – Roansy Contreras
Rays – Shane McClanahan
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 6.5. McClanahan is my guy basically every time he takes the mound. We get an impressively low total between these two teams. I have been a Contreras fan and I might have to be on him against this weak TB lineup.
PIT 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Michael Chavis
GPP Note: Team ISO of .250 over the last week.
TB 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Isaac Paredes
GPP Note: Team ISO of .150 over the last week.
Philadelphia Phillies @ San Diego Padres (-160)
Pitchers:
Phillies – Kyle Gibson
Padres – Yu Darvish
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7.5. I really like the SP match-up with how each offense has struggled. The Phillies just lost Harper for an extended period of time and the clubhouse might be a bit down. I do think that both offenses have the ability to wake up at any point but they each have a bunch of guys struggling at the plate right now.
PHI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber
GPP Note: Team ISO of .076 over the last week.
SD 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jake Cronenworth, Austin Nola
GPP Note: Team ISO of .147 over the last week.

New York Mets (-145) @ Miami Marlins
Pitchers:
Mets – David Peterson
Marlins – Daniel Castano
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I am a bit lost on how to approach this game. Neither team is great against LHPs at this point in the season. Thankfully this is a stand-alone game early today so maybe we build single-game lineups around the pitchers while sprinkling power like Alonso.
NYM 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor
GPP Note: Team ISO of .148 over the last week.
MIA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jesus Aguilar, Jon Berti
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 over the last week.
Detroit Tigers @ Arizona D’Backs (-125)
Pitchers:
Tigers – Beau Brieske
D’Backs – Dallas Keuchel
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. Keuchel gets to make his Arizona debut after being horrible for the White Sox. The nice thing is that he gets a pretty weak opponent. The big issue is that he has struggled to get both LHB and RHBs out. Brieske has been a reverse splits guy which probably works to his advantage in this one.
DET 5-star plays: Javy Baez
4-star plays: Riley Greene
GPP Note: Team ISO of .137 over the last week.
ARI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Christian Walker
GPP Note: Team ISO of .133 over the last week.
Seattle Mariners @ Los Angeles Angels (-140)
Pitchers:
Mariners – Marco Gonzales
Angels – Jose Suarez
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. This is another game that I am a bit lost on. Neither offense excites me right now but we get a very aggressive Vegas total. I may end up moving Julio Rodriguez to a 5-Star initial play. Trout has definitely been dominant against Gonzales in his career.
SEA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Julio Rodriguez, Jesse Winker
GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 over the last week.
LAA 5-star plays: Mike Trout
4-star plays: Jared Walsh, Taylor Ward
GPP Note: Team ISO of .166 over the last week.
Houston Astros @ New York Yankees (-160)
Pitchers:
Astros – Jose Urquidy
Yankees – Nestor Cortes Jr
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. We get a couple of very dangerous offenses against a couple of pitchers that I do believe can be hit hard. There are some regressive starts in the near future for Nestor and the Astros would make a ton of sense for that to happen against. The Yankees were obviously just no-hit yesterday.
HOU 5-star plays: Yordan Alvarez
4-star plays: Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve
GPP Note: Team ISO of .258 over the last week.
NYY 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge
GPP Note: Team ISO of .207 over the last week.

Toronto Blue Jays (-145) @ Milwaukee Brewers
Pitchers:
Blue Jays – Jose Berrios
Brewers – Chi Chi Gonzalez
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. Can you guess what I plan to do with this game? I am going to be ALL over the TOR bats against Chi-Chi. I absolutely love the RHBs from TOR against him. Berrios could put up a massive performance or I could see him giving up 3 HRs to this MIL team.
TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr.
4-star plays: Bo Bichette, Teoscar Hernandez
GPP Note: Team ISO of .252 over the last week.
MIL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Willy Adames, Andrew McCutchen
GPP Note: Team ISO of .199 over the last week.
Chicago Cubs @ St Louis Cardinals (-185)
Pitchers:
Cubs – Alec Mills
Cardinals – Jack Flaherty
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. The Cardinals have been near the top of my stack rankings a LOT this last week so why not one more day? They have cooled down a bit but I still like their team total and match-up. I am playing the wait-and-see game with Flaherty as he returns from his arm issues.
CHC 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner
GPP Note: Team ISO of .123 over the last week.
STL 5-star plays: Paul Goldschmidt
4-star plays: Nolan Arenado, Tommy Edman
GPP Note: Team ISO of .138 over the last week.
Boston Red Sox (-115) @ Cleveland Guardians
Pitchers:
Red Sox – Rich Hill
Guardians – Aaron Civale
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. Despite the game having a total at 9 I just don’t feel all that great about much in this game. The one thing that stands out to me is the Duran-Devers mini-stack at the top of the BOS lineup. I actually think that Rich Hill is a sneaky SP2 option on DK today.
BOS 5-star plays: Rafael Devers
4-star plays: Jarren Duran
GPP Note: Team ISO of .195 over the last week.
CLE 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jose Ramirez, Amed Rosario
GPP Note: Team ISO of .163 over the last week.
Los Angeles Dodgers (-120) @ Atlanta Braves
Pitchers:
Dodgers – Tony Gonsolin
Braves – Spencer Strider
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I am pumped for this match-up. Both of these offenses have been putting up some runs for much of the season. Gonsolin has been excellent for LAD but the Braves are such a tough match-up. Strider is electric with a huge arm but he has very little command and that can lead to big innings. With how the Dodgers are swinging it, I just don’t think we can view Strider as anything more than a dart.
LAD 5-star plays: Freddie Freeman, Trea Turner
4-star plays: Justin Turner, Will Smith
GPP Note: Team ISO of .208 over the last week.
ATL 5-star plays: Dansby Swanson
4-star plays: Michael Harris, Matt Olson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .213 over the last week.

Oakland A’s @ Kansas City Royals (-160)
Pitchers:
A’s – James Kaprielian
Royals – Brady Singer
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. This is going to end up being a game that I have very little exposure to today. Brown has dominated against Singer so he’s definitely going to be in my player pool. I think Singer will garner some ownership and while I understand it, I don’t think he looked great against them in his last start.
OAK 5-star plays: Seth Brown
4-star plays: Sean Murphy
GPP Note: Team ISO of .109 over the last week.
KC 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Andrew Benintendi, Bobby Witt
GPP Note: Team ISO of .212 over the last week.
Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox (-210)
Pitchers:
Orioles – Jordan Lyles
White Sox – Dylan Cease
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I will back off of my White Sox love only to watch them put up 8 runs today and make me want to have a beverage. Cease is going to be near the top of my GPP list but he’s rarely reliable for cash games because of how he racks up a high pitch count with walks, etc.
BAL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Austin Hays
GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 over the last week.
CWS 5-star plays: Luis Robert
4-star plays: Andrew Vaughn, AJ Pollock
GPP Note: Team ISO of .110 over the last week.
Cincinnati Reds @ San Francisco Giants (-150)
Pitchers:
Reds – Tyler Mahle
Giants – Anthony DeSclafani
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. I would look to this game and mainly the Giants for some one-off HRs. Both of these SPs are capable of being dominant in this ballpark. Belt has a couple of HRs against Mahle while Joc has started to heat up again at the plate from a power perspective.
CIN 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Brandon Drury
GPP Note: Team ISO of .136 over the last week.
SF 5-star plays: Joc Pederson
4-star plays: Evan Longoria, Brandon Belt
GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 over the last week.
Colorado Rockies @ Minnesota Twins (-220)
Pitchers:
Rockies – Ryan Feltner
Twins – Joe Ryan
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I actually think this game goes under the listed total right now. Ryan can certainly dominate while Feltner has shown dominant stretches for the Rockies. I can get behind a MIN stack but they are going to be well down my list on the website.
COL 5-star plays: Ryan McMahon
4-star plays: Brendan Rodgers
GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 over the last week.
MIN 5-star plays: Carlos Correa
4-star plays: Byron Buxton, Ryan Jeffers
GPP Note: Team ISO of .172 over the last week.
Stacks of the Day: Main Slate
- Toronto Blue Jays
- St Louis Cardinals
- Texas Rangers
MLB Dinger of the Day – Vlad Guerrero Jr, TOR
