MLB DFS pitching breakdowns are key to starting a winning lineup. Finding the best matchups form the foundation to a cash game lineup, and the sneaky matchups exploiting deeper dives find those under-the-radar pitchers capable of winning huge tournament money.  But, knowing which pitcher is best suited for which DFS game format sets you apart from the rest of the casual, fishy players out there just lighting their money on fire nightly.

Kevin Gausman @ TB

Gausman has a good matchup with TB here tonight. He has over 6 innings in 4 of his 6 starts this year and 4 straight. He has been able to rack up the strikeouts against some good offenses. TB has a 25% strikeout rate against RHP in the last couple of weeks. Gausman has been pretty lights out with the Jays this year too and has just 1 walk this year…yes ONE WALK. He’s not allowing free passes and striking a ton of guys out. ALL FORMATS

Max Scherzer vs SEA

Seattle is an offense that doesn’t strikeout much against RHP, but it’s still middle of the league at 22.7% in the last 2 weeks. Scherzer is elite and should have no problem getting some strikeouts here. He’s been brillant this year and has more than 7 K’s in all but one start this season. He has gone 6 innings in all but one start as well. I love the upside he brings in this matchup at home here. ALL FORMATS

Jordan Lyles @ DET

Detroit has been one of the worst teams in baseball of late in terms of hitting. Over the last 2 weeks they have a 24.4% strikeout rate against RHP with an ISO of .057. They aren’t a big power hitting team at all. Lyles has looked good over his last 2 starts and really has just 2 bad starts this year against NYY and TB. He has shut down bad offenses and had 1 good start against the Yanks too. Won’t get a ton of K’s but close to 1 per inning and with DET striking out a ton, he could get more than 1 an inning here. GPP ONLY

Eduardo Rodriguez vs BAL

E-Rod has looked okay this year nut he still has problems allowing runs. He has a good matchup with Baltimore here but he is at a good price range and has some upside here. BAL has a 25.3% strikeout rate against LHP so far in the last month. I don’t trust him for cash games, but with his upside in this matchup he makes for a really good GPP option. GPP ONLY

Yu Darvish @ ATL

Darvish has some upside here. He’s looked good besides his one start against the Giants this season. ATL has the 4th highest strikeout rate against RHP in the last 2 weeks at 25.9%, so the strikeout upside is definetly there for him. He hasn’t been striking out a ton of hitter so far this season and has been under a K per inning. I do think that he has a better start here and can get some K’s with the ATL lineup striking out a ton. LEAN GPP

Gerrit Cole @ CWS

Gil struggled last night a bit against the White Sox, but Cole is obviously much better than him. After 3 rough starts, Cole has looked good for the Yanks and he has looked much much better. 6+ innings in his last 3 starts with over a strikeout per inning. The downside here is the White Sox don’t strikeout a ton against RHP, but Cole, if he’s on has elite stuff and can rack up K’s in a hurry. ALL FORMATS

Kyle Freeland vs KC

Anytime there’s a pitcher against KC I’m going to be interested. They are a team that doesn’t strike out a ton against either side, but their offense hasn’t really done much all serason. In the last month they are hitting just .230 against LHP with an ISO under .100. Freeland has looked much better after his first 2 starts. He has allowed 2 or fewer runs in the last 4 starts. He doesn’t need a to do a lot here with his pricing, but we still want a decent start out of him. He was really good in his last start at home and didn’t even get a ton of K’s. GPP ONLY

Clayton Kershaw vs PHI

Kershaw has looked AMAZING this year for the Dodgers. Over 30 innings, he has 32 K’s with under a 2 ERA and under a 1 WHIP. He’s been going long enough in 3 of his 5 starts this season. The Phillies have a ton of strikeouts in their lineup against lefties too. They rank 2nd in the league over the last month with a 28.5% strikeout rate. They also have not had a ton of power of late against lefties. Love Kershaw at home too. ALL FORMATS

DINGER OF THE DAY

Charlie Blackmon

Blackmon hasn’t been great this year, but has a great matchup at home against Greinke. He is 20-82 against him with 8 doubles and 2 HR.
