My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Max Fried
  • Shane McClanahan
  • Mackenzie Gore

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. With features that allow you to Like 😀 Love 😍 or Dislike 😡 a player, you can create a fully unique pool of players to generate your lineups from every day. Combine the power of the Domination Station with our VIP Only Articles and the MLB Research Station to really take your game to the next level.

Los Angeles Dodgers (-210) @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Pitchers:

Dodgers – Tyler Anderson

D’Backs – Zach Davies

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. Anderson looked great his last time out but there were some questions about possible forearm issues. I want to believe he is good to go but I have this fear of him leaving after 3-4 innings. We know the Dodgers are dangerous even if they only put up 3 on Saturday.

LAD 5-star plays: Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman

4-star plays: Justin Turner, Trea Turner

GPP Note: Team ISO of .240 over the last week.

ARI 5-star plays: Ketel Marte

4-star plays: Christian Walker

GPP Note: Team ISO of .167 over the last week.

Milwaukee Brewers (-135) @ St Louis Cardinals

Pitchers:

Brewers – Corbin Burnes

Cardinals – Miles Mikolas

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. Burnes is certainly better than Mikolas is. The issue is that the MIL lineup isn’t exactly destroying the baseball while STL has the uber-hot Goldschmidt. Both SPs are going to make my pool for the slate with Mikolas being one I expect to be under the radar.

MIL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Rowdy Tellez, Christian Yelich

GPP Note: Team ISO of .116 over the last week.

STL 5-star plays: Paul Goldschmidt

4-star plays: Tommy Edman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .171 over the last week.

Kansas City Royals @ Minnesota Twins (-190)

Pitchers:

Royals – Zack Greinke

Twins – Sonny Gray

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. The Twins have been disappointing in this series but this one feels like a spot for them to wake up and get a W. Gray has impressed me quite a bit with the Twins. We just need the Twins offense to find a way to wake up, especially Buxton at the top.

KC 5-star plays: Andrew Benintendi

4-star plays: Bobby Witt Jr

GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 over the last week.

MIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Max Kepler, Jorge Polanco

GPP Note: Team ISO of .116 over the last week.

Colorado Rockies @ Washington Nationals (-120)

Pitchers:

Rockies – Kyle Freeland

Nationals – Josiah Gray

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. I prefer the Washington side of this game. Gray has flashed stud-like ability in his young career while the Nats have a few bats that I think could get to Freeland. Cruz is a bat that appears to be heating up and it’s only a matter of time before his HRs begin to show up.

COL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Brendan Rodgers, Ryan McMahon

GPP Note: Team ISO of .090 over the last week.

WSH 5-star plays: Nelson Cruz

4-star plays: Juan Soto

GPP Note: Team ISO of .080 over the last week.

Miami Marlins @ Atlanta Braves (-215)

Pitchers:

Marlins – Elieser Hernandez

Braves – Max Fried

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Hernandez has given up 4 HRs in 9.2 innings against ATL in 2022. That doesn’t seem like a good thing to me, so the Braves should be near the top of our stack list. I know that Fried has had his struggles against MIA but I really love the spot for him at home, as the Marlins aren’t firing on all cylinders.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Brian Anderson, Jesus Sanchez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .113 over the last week.

ATL 5-star plays: Matt Olson

4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr., Marcel Ozuna

GPP Note: Team ISO of .163 over the last week.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Los Angeles Angels (-120)

Pitchers:

Blue Jays – Jose Berrios

Angels – Patrick Sandoval

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. Berrios has disappointed me so far while Sandoval has really impressed me. It’s tough to get a handle on this game. Both SPs are certainly capable of putting up GPP-winning performances while both offenses are capable of putting up 7+ runs in any game. Right now, I think I want to keep my exposure to mini-stacks.

TOR 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette

GPP Note: Team ISO of .184 over the last week.

LAA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout

GPP Note: Team ISO of .141 over the last week.

Texas Rangers (-120) @ Oakland Athletics

Pitchers:

Rangers – Dane Dunning

Athletics – James Kaprielian

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Dunning has flashed some strong upside and that should carry ownership against this weak Oakland squad. Kaprielian hasn’t been as solid in 2022 and that could lead to some positive spots for the Rangers bats. I always prefer playing bats in Oakland when it’s a day game.

TEX 5-star plays: Adolis Garcia

4-star plays: Nathan Lowe, Kole Calhoun

GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 over the last week.

OAK 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ramon Laureano

GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 over the last week.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ San Diego Padres (-210)

Pitchers:

Pirates – Roansy Contreras

Padres – Mackenzie Gore

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. I really love this pitching match-up as we get a couple of the MLB’s top pitching prospects coming into the season. Gore has really bounced back from a rough minor league stretch in which he dropped in the prospect rankings (he was once the top MLB pitching prospect). Hard to not consider playing Machado with how great he has been.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Michael Chavis

GPP Note: Team ISO of .173 over the last week.

SD 5-star plays: Manny Machado

4-star plays: Eric Hosmer

GPP Note: Team ISO of .091 over the last week.

New York Yankees @ Tampa Bay Rays (-145)

Pitchers:

Yankees – Luis Severino

Rays – Shane McLanahan

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 6.5. We get a pretty damn good pitching match-up in this one. McClanahan is in such a great spot with how depleted the Yankees lineup is plus they just aren’t producing much at the moment. Severino has flashed his stuff quite a bit this season but he is going to struggle with consistency since it’s been so long since he was on the mound every 5 days.

NYY 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Gleyber Torres, DJ LeMahieu

GPP Note: Team ISO of .132 over the last week.

TB 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ji-Man Choi

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 over the last week.

Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Mets (-115)

Pitchers:

Phillies – Zack Wheeler

Mets – Chris Bassitt

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. I like this pitching match-up quite a bit but Bassitt has shown some struggles recently but I think he bounces back. Wheeler’s K’s have bounced back so he offers plenty of upside with a solid floor. I don’t think I want to stack either side outside of a mini-stack.

PHI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Nick Castellanos, Kyle Schwarber

GPP Note: Team ISO of .119 over the last week.

NYM 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Pete Alonso, JD Davis

GPP Note: Team ISO of .200 over the last week.

Baltimore Orioles @ Boston Red Sox (-185)

Pitchers:

Orioles – Bruce Zimmermann

Red Sox – Nick Pivetta

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. Can we see some runs in this match-up? I want to see the Red Sox wake up against Zimmermann while we know that Pivetta can give up a few HRs. Boston will find themselves at the top of my notes as my top stack on the slate, no doubt in my mind.

BAL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Cedric Mullins, Ryan Mountcastle

GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 over the last week.

BOS 5-star plays: JD Martinez

4-star plays: Rafael Devers

GPP Note: Team ISO of .220 over the last week.

San Francisco Giants (-150) @ Cincinnati Reds

Pitchers:

Giants – Alex Cobb

Reds – Tyler Mahle

Rundown:

This game has opened up with a total of 9. Mahle has had his struggles at home so I am going to go right back to the Giants as a stack after they let me down yesterday. I could see the Reds bats continuing their recent surge of power. They aren’t a very good team but when you are hot, you are hot.

SF 5-star plays: Mike Yastrzemski

4-star plays: Brandon Crawford, Tommy La Stella

GPP Note: Team ISO of just .205 over the last week.

CIN 5-star plays: Mike Moustakas

4-star plays: Kyle Farmer, Tyler Naquin

GPP Note: Team ISO of .179 over the last week.

Cleveland Guardians (-160) @ Detroit Tigers

Pitchers:

Guardians – Triston McKenzie

Tigers – Elvin Rodriguez

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. I am all about the Guardians’ side in this spot, especially the two guys listed below. McKenzie offers us a ton of upside against a weak opponent. There isn’t a whole lot to like on the Detroit side right now. I could see a one-off HR from an RHB but I hate relying on the Tigers as one-off options.

CLE 5-star plays: Jose Ramirez

4-star plays: Josh Naylor

GPP Note: Team ISO of .119 over the last week.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Harold Castro

GPP Note: Team ISO of .117 over the last week.

Chicago Cubs @ Chicago White Sox (-155)

Pitchers:

Cubs – Marcus Stroman

White Sox – Dylan Cease

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. I think Cease bounces back after a horrendous performance his last time out. The Cubs have flashed power over the last week but they aren’t that powerful of a squad. I expect the White Sox to explode at some point so I am going to trust my guy and end up overweight on them against Stroman.

CHC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Frank Schwindel

GPP Note: Team ISO of .193 over the last week.

CWS 5-star plays: Jose Abreu

4-star plays: Andrew Vaughn

GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 over the last week.

Houston Astros (-150) @ Seattle Mariners

Pitchers:

Astros – Luis Garcia

Mariners – Marco Gonzales

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. The Mariners’ bats are rolling pretty well against the Houston pitchers this weekend. We really could see an offensive ball game here as I am always looking to stack against Marco Gonzales. France and Julio Rodriguez are an EXCELLENT mini-stack.

HOU 5-star plays: Jose Altuve

4-star plays: Yordan Alvarez, Michael Brantley

GPP Note: Team ISO of .101 over the last week.

SEA 5-star plays: Ty France

4-star plays: Julio Rodriguez, JP Crawford

GPP Note: Team ISO of .202 over the last week.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Boston Red Sox
  2. Atlanta Braves
  3. Chicago White Sox

MLB Dinger of the Day – Matt Olson, Atlanta
