MLB DFS pitching breakdowns are key to starting a winning lineup. MDell (Matt) walks you through key stats, trends, and fantasy scoring capable of going deep, shutting down offenses, and bringing big value to your fantasy baseball lineups.
I am mostly a Fanduel player, so the content will be geared mainly towards Fanduel. However, pricing for both Fanduel and DraftKings will be included. Some plays may be better off for the two pitcher sites and he will mention that when necessary. For an even deeper dive into MLB Pitching Strategy, click here. Yesterday’s MLB Pitcher Results: (here I will post fantasy points from the previous day’s picks)
EARLY
Dakota Hudson: GAME GOT PPD
Aaron Civale: 13 FD, 4.7 DK
Adrian Houser: 14 FD, 6.05 DK
Austin Gomber: 17 FD, 8.9 DK
Well early slate was not kind to us in the pitching perspective. We saw only Hearn and Zimmermann the only two starters to have over 20 FD points on the slate.
MAIN
Luis Patino: Injured after 3 batters.
Ranger Suarez: 2 FD, -1.6 DK
Huascar Ynoa: 6 FD, -0.7 DK
Dylan Bundy: 27 FD, 18.05 DK
Elieser Hernandez: 20 FD, 9.7 DK
Alex Wood: 25 FD, 13.55 DK
Well, outside of Bundy and Wood we had a rather frustrating night last night. Injuries and guys in decent matchups just not pitching well. Something that is going to happen early in the season. But we just bounce back and work on today!

Main MLB DFS Slate (9 games)
Yu Darvish (9.7k FD, 10.1k DK)
Darvish had a pretty solid first start of the season and now faces the Giants. It’s not an easy matchup by any means, but the weather could still be cold out there in San Fran which would go towards the pitcher’s favor. He didn’t rack up the strikeouts I thought he would in start 1, but still did not allow a hit but his command was shaky, walking 4 batters in 6 innings. Good enough to make the QS bonus on FD which is huge. I like him to get the QS again here tonight too.
Luis Garcia (8.6k FD, 9,4k DK)
Good matchup for the Astros here tonight against the Dbacks. Garcia was pretty solid last year and showed a lot of promise with strikeouts. He had 188 K’s in just 171 innings last season. Placing 2nd in the ROY voting is no small feat. I can see him having an even better sophomore year and he gets to start this season off with a nice matchup against Arizona, who outside of Marte don’t scare me that much.
Alex Cobb (7.6k FD, 7k DK)
If the weather at the beginning of the season stays crappy and cold, I will be picking the pitchers who are out in San Fran to start the season. It has been reported that Cobb’s fastball has been hitting 95-97 this year, which is up from last season from 93 average. This is a good since and I think he could have an even better year. Last year, he only threw 93.1 innings with 98 K’s and a nice 3.76 ERA. He should be able to log 125+ innings this year if he can stay healthy. I don’t mind this matchup here with the Padres without Tatis. I do worry about Machado and Hosmer a bit, but if he can get around then, he could have a good game here and I do really like his price.
Dakota Hudson (9.5k FD,6.3k)
Hudson had his start last night pushed back to today as the game got rained out yesterday. The Royals come into this game after getting absolutely blown out against the Guardians in the first series of the season. KC scored 14 runs in the 4 games, but 7 of them came in the series finale. Now a short little 2-game series in St. Louis. The Royals don’t strike out a ton, but Hudson if he can keep the ball down and in the yard he could get about a K per inning and have a good start here tonight. Even with 9 games on the dock, I don’t love a ton of pitching options. Absolutely LOVE his DraftKings price here, way too cheap and amazing SP2.

Patrick Sandoval (8.4k FD, 7.9k DK)
Sandoval had his start pushed back until this evening. I actually really like this move from the Angels opposed to him starting against the Astros. The Marlins matchup is much easier than facing a good Houston team. The Marlins have some guys who can hit, but overall I don’t think they are going to fare well against Sandoval. Sandoval had a decent season last year in limited innings, but he showed that he can really get out lefties. He had a very solid strikeout rate at home (27.2%) last year but he did struggle with walks, having an 11.7% walk rate. If he can limit his walks and rack up the strikeouts that he’s shown he can do, he could be one of the top-scoring pitchers on the slate in this matchup.
Jesus Luzardo (7.1k FD, 7.3k DK)
Risky GPP option here for y’all. He’s facing the Angels team who has some good hitters in Trout, Ohtani, Rendon, and Puljos. But overall, I don’t think this Angels offense is going to do all that great. Being a lefty gives him the advantage against Ohtani too. Trout was scratched from the game last night so who knows if he will even start here. If Trout is out of the lineup here, I like Luzardo a bit more. He finally showed some promise in the spring this year. Luzardo had a 10:3 K:BB ratio in 11.2 innings in the grapefruit league during the Spring. He had just over a 1 WHIP which is an encouraging sign since he had a 1.62 WHIP last season. The pressure is really of him now playing for Miami too. I like his upside in this one, especially if Trout misses again.
