My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.
- Cal Quantrill
- Chris Flexen

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Cincinnati Reds
Pitchers:
Pirates – Undecided
Reds – Reiver Sanmartin
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information. We might see a lot of this over the final week. By this, I mean undecided SP plans with random names on the other side. The Reds are technically still alive for a playoff spot but they basically need STL to lose out as they are 6 games behind them for the 2nd Wild Card. I would expect their lineup to be pretty normal today so we should look to take advantage of them in this spot.
PIT 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Ke’Bryan Hayes
GPP Note: Team ISO of .123 against LHPs this season.
CIN 5-star plays: Nick Castellanos
4-star plays: Kyle Farmer, Eugenio Suarez
GPP Note: Team ISO of .150 against LHPs this season.
Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

Oakland Athletics @ Seattle Mariners (-111)
Pitchers:
Athletics – Cole Irvin
Mariners – Chris Flexen
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. These two teams are 2 and 3 games out of the 2nd Wild Card in the A.L. so this series is extremely important. A lot has to go right for them as the Blue Jays are also ahead of both of these teams but it’s right there for them. From a baseball perspective, this series is going to be a ton of fun to watch. Irvin has struggled mightily against SEA while Flexen has thrown a couple of really strong games against them.
OAK 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Matt Chapman, Matt Olson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .167 against RHPs this season.
SEA 5-star plays: Kyle Seager
4-star plays: Tom Murphy, Ty France
GPP Note: Team ISO of .164 against LHPs this season.

Washington Nationals @ Colorado Rockies (-160)
Pitchers:
Nationals – Josiah Gray
Rockies – German Marquez
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 11.5. This game only matters for pride as the teams wind down their season. Juan Soto is absolutely on fire and has been for much of the second half. Trevor Story might be a sneaky pick to end the season with a few HRs over the last week as this could be his last week in Colorado. Marquez has been solid at home while I think Gray could have some problems in Coors tonight.
WSH 5-star plays: Juan Soto
4-star plays: Keibert Ruiz, Luis Garcia
GPP Note: Team ISO of .158 against RHPs this season.
COL 5-star plays: Brendan Rodgers
4-star plays: Trevor Story, Charlie Blackmon
GPP Note: Team ISO of .160 against RHPs this season.

Kansas City Royals @ Cleveland Indians (-157)
Pitchers:
Royals – Jackson Kowar
Indians – Cal Quantrill
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. Kowar has been absolutely atrocious at the MLB level this season and it’s frustrating to see because he’s considered the top pitching prospect for KC, or at least he had been. Jose Ramirez has been heating up and is poised to finish the season pretty strongly. Quantrill has been solid for the Indians this season and looks to finish the year with an ERA under 3. Perez has to get hot to finish the season but he still has 50 HRs in his sight.
KC 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Andrew Benintendi, Salvador Perez
GPP Note: Team ISO of .144 against RHPs this season.
CLE 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez
GPP Note: Team ISO of .166 against RHPs this season.
Chicago White Sox (-153) @ Detroit Tigers
Pitchers:
White Sox – Dallas Keuchel
Tigers – Matt Manning
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. The White Sox are 3 games behind HOU in the battle to host that series in the postseason. So while I think the White Sox will try to get guys rolling, I do think that we see a mainstay rest each of the next few days. Detroit has a few guys who have had success against Keuchel and he hasn’t been very strong this season, at all. We could definitely see some runs put up in this game and it wouldn’t shock me if a stack from it wins you the money.
CWS 5-star plays: Luis Robert
4-star plays: Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu
GPP Note: Team ISO of .159 against RHPs this season.
DET 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jonathan Schoop, Willi Castro
GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 against LHPs this season.
Stacks of the Day:
- Cleveland Indians
