My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Kyle Hendricks
  • Nathan Eovaldi
  • Huascar Ynoa

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. Arizona Diamondbacks @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Pitchers:

D’Backs – Humberto Mejia

Pirates – Wil Crowe

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information. I believe we are waiting on verification of the D’Backs starter but to me, the pitching doesn’t matter a whole lot in this game. I can see Crowe being somewhat viable but I would rather use some one-offs and mini-stacks from a game that I don’t find exciting, in any way.

ARI 5-star plays: Ketel Marte

4-star plays: Josh Rojas

GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against RHPs this season.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Yoshi Tsutsugo

GPP Note: Team ISO of .129 against RHPs this season.

Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

DFS MLB Weather Picks

Kansas City Royals @ Houston Astros (-216)

Pitchers:

Royals – Daniel Lynch

Astros – Zack Greinke

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. Greinke just faced this KC squad in his last start and he allowed just 1 run in 6 innings. Sounds like a solid performance, right? Well, he had 0 Ks and finished with just 8.5 DK points. Lynch has gone for 23+ DK points in 3 of his last 5 starts, one of which was against this HOU squad. I actually think there’s more offense in this game than the recent series and I will be stacking both sides.

KC 5-star plays: Nicky Lopez, Whit Merrifield

4-star plays: Salvador Perez, Andrew Benintendi

GPP Note: Team ISO of .141 against RHPs this season.

HOU 5-star plays: Yordan Alvarez

4-star plays: Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve

GPP Note: Team ISO of .164 against LHPs this season.

New York Yankees @ Atlanta Braves

Pitchers:

Yankees – Jordan Montgomery

Braves – Huascar Ynoa

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information. I have seen some sites that think the Yankees will be running out Luis Gil but I am building under the belief that it’ll be Montgomery. I am rather enamored with Ynoa and while the match-up isn’t a cakewalk but I just love the upside he offers against a Yankees offense that can go cold. Montgomery can do enough to stifle an offense but this Braves offense is producing. This is going to be a great game as both teams are on a 9 game winning streak.

NYY 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Anthony Rizzo, DJ LeMahieu

GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 against RHPs this season.

ATL 5-star plays: Ozzie Albies

4-star plays: Freddie Freeman, Jorge Soler

GPP Note: Team ISO of .186 against LHPs this season.

Chicago White Sox (-111) @ Toronto Blue Jays

Pitchers:

White Sox – Lance Lynn

Blue Jays – Alek Manoah

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. The White Sox offense needs Anderson back at the top as it makes the lineup so much stronger. I think this is the game that makes or breaks tonight’s action as it’s one that makes you feel uncomfortable. What I mean by that is the fact that we aren’t excited to roster either SP or either offense against the solid SPs. To me, that uncomfortable feeling makes for great GPP decisions as we should get whatever side we want at a lower ownership number. As always, I am on the Blue Jays side more than their opponent.

CWS 5-star plays: Luis Robert

4-star plays: Tim Anderson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against RHPs this season.

TOR 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Marcus Semien, Randal Grichuk

GPP Note: Team ISO of .198 against RHPs this season.

Seattle Mariners @ Oakland Athletics (EVEN)

Pitchers:

Mariners – Marco Gonzales

Athletics – Paul Blackburn

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. My initial thought is that this game plays to the over. I am making that prediction based on the fact that the A’s have hit Gonzales fairly well in their careers and Blackburn is just not a guy that should shut down the Mariners bats. I am going back to Matt Chapman as my Dinger call as he came through for me recently. The debate was between he and Matt Olson so a Matt is definitely going yard tonight.

SEA 5-star plays: Mitch Haniger

4-star plays: Abraham Toro, Kyle Seager

GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 against RHPs this season.

OAK 5-star plays: Starling Marte, Matt Chapman

4-star plays: Matt Olson, Jed Lowrie

GPP Note: Team ISO of .164 against LHPs this season.

Texas Rangers @ Boston Red Sox (-330)

Pitchers:

Rangers – Kolby Allard

Red Sox – Nathan Eovaldi

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10. We get Boston has a MASSIVE favorite again today (E-Rod let us down in a HUGE way yesterday). I think they actually show up today and that could be bad news for Allard. The Rangers lineup has become one of those pesky ones filled with younger guys trying to make a name for themselves and that makes them dangerous. With that said, I think Eovaldi cruises in this match-up, and the Red Sox wins this game like 8-2.

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Brock Holt, Andy Ibanez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 against RHPs this season.

BOS 5-star plays: JD Martinez

4-star plays: Hunter Renfroe, Xander Bogaerts

GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against LHPs this season.

Colorado Rockies @ Chicago Cubs (-130)

Pitchers:

Rockies – Antonio Senzatela

Cubs – Kyle Hendricks

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. I recently ran a trivia question by the VIP chat and the only one to get it right, cheated to find the answer. Who leads MLB in Wins (pitcher, not team)? The answer is Kyle Hendricks. He has 26% of the Cubs wins on the season, which is just insane considering he hasn’t had a very strong year. As much as it makes me cringe, I think both of the SPs in this game makes a TON of sense in our GPP builds as the offenses aren’t overly strong.

COL 5-star plays: Charlie Blackmon

4-star plays: CJ Cron

GPP Note: Team ISO of .156 against RHPs this season.

CHC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Frank Schwindel, Ian Happ

GPP Note: Team ISO of .162 against RHPs this season.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Houston Astros
  2. Oakland Athletics
  3. Atlanta Braves

MLB Dinger of the Day – Matt Chapman, Oakland
