My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Shohei Ohtani
  • German Marquez
  • Luis Garcia

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. With features that allow you to Like 😀 Love 😍 or Dislike 😡 a player, you can create a fully unique pool of players to generate your lineups from every day. Combine the power of the Domination Station with our VIP Only Articles and the MLB Research Station to really take your game to the next level.

Cincinnati Reds @ Chicago Cubs (-127)

Pitchers:

Reds – Wade Miley

Cubs – Kyle Hendricks

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. As I always point out in a Wade Miley game, I always want to stack against him. I am not sure what it is but he just feels like somebody that should struggle against a handful of teams. Hendricks is so tough to figure out because he’s basically an RH version of Miley but he’s had some solid success at times. The Reds lineup looks much weaker without Castellanos but they have hit Hendricks well in their careers.

CIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Joey Votto, Jesse Winker

GPP Note: Team ISO of .170 against RHPs this season.

CHC 5-star plays: Kris Bryant

4-star plays: Willson Contreras

GPP Note: Team ISO of .162 against LHPs this season.

Houston Astros (-172) @ Seattle Mariners

Pitchers:

Astros – Luis Garcia

Mariners – Darren McCaughan

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. McCaughan is going to allow a TON of contact as he had just 1 swinging strike in his long-relief debut last week. That puts the Astros squarely in the conversation for a top stack on the slate. Garcia has impressed me enough this season that I think he can be a strong play tonight but he is expensive. Haniger and France have been swinging it really well for Seattle.

HOU 5-star plays: Kyle Tucker

4-star plays: Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .177 against RHPs this season.

SEA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Mitch Haniger, Ty France

GPP Note: Team ISO of .158 against RHPs this season.

Washington Nationals @ Philadelphia Phillies (-115)

Pitchers:

Nationals – Joe Ross

Phillies – Spencer Howard

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10. These are two of my favorite middle-tier offenses to stack on a daily basis. Both have the ability to go off on a slate and they have strong plays for GPP purposes due to having multiple guys with double-dong upside. The Phillies bats have hit Ross well in their careers and he is coming off of an arm issue so he may not be as sharp as he has shown this season. Howard is one of PHI’s top pitching prospects but he hasn’t really shown it at the MLB level as a starter yet.

WSH 5-star plays: Juan Soto

4-star plays: Trea Turner, Josh Harrison

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against RHPs this season.

PHI 5-star plays: Jean Segura, JT Realmuto

4-star plays: Rhys Hoskins, Bryce Harper

GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 against RHPs this season.

Toronto Blue Jays (-105) @ Boston Red Sox

Pitchers:

Blue Jays – Thomas Hatch

Red Sox – Nick Pivetta

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10.5. We should expect a ton of people to flock to this game. You will see that I love both of these offenses. I realize that you will notice that I love the TOR bats below as they are in a smash spot but yet in my rankings at the bottom I have BOS ahead of TOR. The reason for that is that I expect people to be higher on TOR than BOS so I wanted to flip them for GPP leverage. It won’t be a ton of leverage because they both should carry plenty of ownership.

TOR 5-star plays: Bo Bichette, George Springer

4-star plays: Cavan Biggio, Vlad Guerrero Jr, Marcus Semien

GPP Note: Team ISO of .197 against RHPs this season.

BOS 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: JD Martinez, Kike Hernandez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .190 against RHPs this season.

Colorado Rockies @ Los Angeles Angels (-153)

Pitchers:

Rockies – German Marquez

Angels – Shohei Ohtani

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. It sucks that we STILL haven’t been given the ability to use Shohei as a hitter while he’s pitching. Both of these SPs should be on our short list of guys to use tonight. We know how difficult Shohei is and the Rockies lineup is extremely weak at this point. The Angels haven’t been hitting the ball a ton so I could see this ending up the lowest scoring game by 2 or 3 runs tonight.

COL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Charlie Blackmon

GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 against RHPs this season.

LAA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jose Iglesias, Jared Walsh

GPP Note: Team ISO of .175 against RHPs this season.

Detroit Tigers @ Minnesota Twins (-172)

Pitchers:

Tigers – Matt Manning

Twins – Michael Pineda

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10.5. Manning has looked decent in his last 2 starts but he still isn’t picking up Ks and that’s a bit surprising for one of DET’s top SP prospects. The Twins are in sell-off mode as they dealt Cruz while they’ve also been hit by the injury bug to their hitters. Pineda is generally really solid and I love his DK price, even if Detroit has been playing strong baseball the last month+.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Miguel Cabrera, Jeimer Candelario

GPP Note: Team ISO of .160 against RHPs this season.

MIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Max Kepler, Jorge Polanco

GPP Note: Team ISO of .181 against RHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets (-153) – Game 1

Pitchers:

Braves – Kyle Muller

Mets – Marcus Stroman

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. Remember that this game is a 7-inning contest.

ATL 5-star plays: Freddie Freeman

4-star plays: Ozzie Albies, Joc Pederson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .186 against RHPs this season.

NYM 5-star plays: Pete Alonso

4-star plays: James McCann

GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against LHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets (-139) – Game 2

Pitchers:

Braves – Bryse Wilson

Mets – Undecided

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Remember that this game is a 7-inning contest.

ATL 5-star plays: Freddie Freeman

4-star plays: Ozzie Albies, Joc Pederson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .186 against RHPs this season.

NYM 5-star plays: Pete Alonso

4-star plays: Luis Guillorme, Michael Conforto

GPP Note: Team ISO of .151 against RHPs this season.

Chicago White Sox (-125) @ Kansas City Royals

Pitchers:

White Sox – Dallas Keuchel

Royals – Mike Minor

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10. A battle of two LHPs but they are pretty different types of pitchers. Keuchel is going to rely on weak contact to get out while Minor tries to pick up the Ks. I think both of these offenses are strong plays and I am interested in seeing the White Sox lineup with the presumed return of Eloy Jimenez.

CWS 5-star plays: Tim Anderson

4-star plays: Jose Abreu, Andrew Vaughn

GPP Note: Team ISO of .174 against LHPs this season.

KC 5-star plays: Whit Merrifield, Hunter Dozier

4-star plays: Jorge Soler, Salvador Perez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against LHPs this season.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Boston Red Sox
  2. Toronto Blue Jays
  3. Chicago Cubs

MLB Dinger of the Day – Bo Bichette, Toronto
