My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.
- Chris Bassitt
- Luis Garcia
- Jose Berrios

Houston Astros (-195) @ Detroit Tigers
Pitchers:
Astros – Luis Garcia
Tigers – Jose Urena
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 10. Once again we should see the Astros as the chalk stack on the slate. They are in a great spot yet again with a very high implied team total. I see no reason to fade them at this point. Garcia has surprised me this season and he’s in a pretty strong spot, as long as he’s able to solve the Jonathan Schoop riddle.
HOU 5-star plays: Michael Brantley, Jose Altuve
4-star plays: Yuli Gurriel, Yordan Alvarez
GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 against RHPs this season.
DET 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jonathan Schoop
GPP Note: Team ISO of .156 against RHPs this season.
Pittsburgh Pirates @ St Louis Cardinals (-145)
Pitchers:
Pirates – Chad Kuhl
Cardinals – Carlos Martinez
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. Lots of weather in the forecast for this game so we have to pay attention. If the game plays, I really like the offenses as both of these SPs are mediocre, at best. I am really liking a Pirates mini-stack and I can say that I almost never say those words.
PIT 5-star plays: Gregory Polanco
4-star plays: Adam Frazier, Bryan Reynolds
GPP Note: Team ISO of .123 against RHPs this season.
STL 5-star plays: Nolan Arenado
4-star plays: Yadier Molina
GPP Note: Team ISO of .148 against RHPs this season.
Washington Nationals (-111) @ Miami Marlins
Pitchers:
Nationals – Jon Lester
Marlins – Cody Poteet
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I have seen Lester listed in places and I have seen Ross listed in others. I don’t think the Marlins bats are in play much either way. The Nationals just put up a ton of runs and Schwarber won’t stop hitting HRs at this point. Poteet has flashed some ability and the game total is pretty low but I still like the Nationals bats.
WSH 5-star plays: Kyle Schwarber
4-star plays: Juan Soto, Trea Turner
GPP Note: Team ISO of .143 against RHPs this season.
MIA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Adam Duvall, Jesus Aguilar
GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 against LHPs this season.
Kansas City Royals @ New York Yankees (-177)
Pitchers:
Royals – Brad Keller
Yankees – Jameson Taillon
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. Both of these SPs are guys that are capable of throwing 6-7 shutout innings, the problem is that these offenses are rather potent. The Royals might have lost Salvador Perez for a game or two last night and if he’s out of the lineup, that weakens the KC lineup quite a bit.
KC 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Whit Merrifield, Ryan O’Hearn
GPP Note: Team ISO of .145 against RHPs this season.
NYY 5-star plays: Gary Sanchez
4-star plays: Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres
GPP Note: Team ISO of .156 against RHPs this season.

Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays
Pitchers:
Red Sox – Nick Pivetta
Rays – Michael Wacha
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
BOS 5-star plays: Alex Verdugo
4-star plays: Xander Bogaerts, Kike Hernandez
GPP Note: Team ISO of .174 against RHPs this season.
TB 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Brandon Lowe, Austin Meadows
GPP Note: Team ISO of .173 against RHPs this season.

Chicago Cubs @ Los Angeles Dodgers (-213)
Pitchers:
Cubs – Zach Davies
Dodgers – Walker Buehler
Rundown:
This game opened with a total of 7.5. Buehler could end up with 12-13 Ks in this game or Joc Pederson could HR twice in his return to LA. I wouldn’t be shocked by either happening. The Dodgers are starting to get healthier, despite losing Betts the other day. Muncy looks good in his return and it should be just a matter of time before Bellinger catches fire.
CHC 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Kris Bryant, Joc Pederson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .177 against RHPs this season.
LAD 5-star plays: Max Muncy
4-star plays: Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner
GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 against RHPs this season.
Atlanta Braves @ Cincinnati Reds
Pitchers:
Braves – Undecided
Reds – Tony Santillan
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
ATL 5-star plays: Ozzie Albies
4-star plays: Freddie Freeman
GPP Note: Team ISO of .193 against RHPs this season.
CIN 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jesse Winker, Nick Castellanos
GPP Note: Team ISO of .215 at home this season.
Baltimore Orioles @ Toronto Blue Jays
Pitchers:
Orioles – Dean Kremer
Blue Jays – Anthony Kay
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information. I don’t need the Vegas information to tell me that the Blue Jays are in a smash spot, yet again. Seems like it’s been the Blue Jays and Astros every day for the last week. Kay hasn’t thrown very well at the MLB level so the Orioles could be a sneaky team stack. Ryan Mountcastle is one of my favorite one-offs today.
BAL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Trey Mancini, Ryan Mountcastle
GPP Note: Team ISO of .178 against LHPs this season.
TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr.
4-star plays: Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien
GPP Note: Team ISO of .190 against RHPs this season.
Cleveland Indians @ Minnesota Twins (-160)
Pitchers:
Indians – JC Mejia
Twins – Jose Berrios
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. The Twins need Berrios to step up and be the ace of this staff if they want to turn the season around. I really wish Buxton could stay healthy because the Twins lineup could be dangerous. Cruz and Arraez are swinging hot bats right now and guys like Kepler, Sano, Kirilloff, and Larnach are very capable.
CLE 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Josh Naylor, Eddie Rosario
GPP Note: Team ISO of .164 against RHPs this season.
MIN 5-star plays: Nelson Cruz
4-star plays: Luis Arraez, Max Kepler
GPP Note: Team ISO of .184 against RHPs this season.

Oakland Athletics (-157) @ Texas Rangers
Pitchers:
Athletics – Chris Bassitt
Rangers – Kolby Allard
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. Oakland is another team that has been near the top of the stack rankings for much of the last week. Bassitt lines up in a plus spot during the day as the Rangers are pretty weak overall. Being an early game, we should get creative with our A’s stack as they should be very popular.
OAK 5-star plays: Matt Olson
4-star plays: Ramon Laureano, Mark Canha
GPP Note: Team ISO of .184 against LHPs this season.
TEX 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Joey Gallo
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.
Stacks of the Day: Main Slate
- Toronto Blue Jays
- Houston Astros
- Atlanta Braves (if Acuna Jr is healthy) or Oakland Athletics (if Acuna Jr is out)
MLB Dinger of the Day – Ryan Mountcastle, Baltimore
