Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums.  With that said, let’s get it started!

My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Jacob deGrom (How healthy is he?)
  • Julio Urias
  • Yu Darvish

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. Houston Astros (-157) @ Baltimore Orioles

Pitchers:

Astros – Jake Odorizzi

Orioles – Keegan Akin

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10. I will give you some big information here, both of these teams find themselves in my top 3 GPP stacks for this slate. Odorizzi just hasn’t been strong with the Astros and the Orioles have a few guys that can hit some HRs. The Astros bats should be the most popular stack on the slate.

HOU 5-star plays: Jose Altuve, Yuli Gurriel

4-star plays: Carlos Correa, Michael Brantley

GPP Note: Team ISO of .170 against LHPs this season.

BAL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Cedric Mullins, Maikel Franco

GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 against RHPs this season.

Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

DFS MLB Weather Picks

Milwaukee Brewers (-125) @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Pitchers:

Brewers – Brett Anderson

Diamondbacks – Merrill Kelly

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. The Brewers are traveling out of Coors so the offense could be flat. The total in this game makes me think Vegas doesn’t believe in the Coors theory or they think that Chase is still a very strong offensive park. Anderson was elite in his last start against CIN and he gets a team that is losing at a record-breaking pace.

MIL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Avisail Garcia, Omar Narvaez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .147 against RHPs this season.

ARI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ketel Marte, Eduardo Escobar

GPP Note: Team ISO of .184 against LHPs this season.

MLB DFS Research Projections

Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Diego Padres (-121)

Pitchers:

Dodgers – Julio Urias

Padres – Yu Darvish

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 6.5. This should be the best pitching match-up on the main slate. Urias is a very strong, still young, arm while Darvish is a top-tier SP. The Dodgers roster has struggled MIGHTILY with Darvish in their careers. San Diego has surprisingly struggled with LHPs this season. If you are targeting bats, I would look to use guys as one-offs.

LAD 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Mookie Betts, Albert Pujols

GPP Note: Team ISO of .171 against RHPs this season.

SD 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Tommy Pham, Wil Myers

GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 against LHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets – Game 1

Pitchers:

Braves – Ian Anderson

Mets – Jacob deGrom

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information. Remember that this is a 7-inning game.

ATL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr., Freddie Freeman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .193 against RHPs this season.

NYM 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: James McCann, Dominic Smith

GPP Note: Team ISO of .145 against RHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets – Game 2

Pitchers:

Braves – Kyle Muller

Mets – Undecided

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information. Remember that this is a 7-inning game.

ATL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr., Freddie Freeman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .193 against RHPs this season.

NYM 5-star plays: NONE

MLB DFS Winning Lineups $50,000

Cleveland Indians @ Chicago Cubs

Pitchers:

Indians – Aaron Civale

Cubs – Adbert Alzolay

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

CLE 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jose Ramirez, Bobby Bradley

GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against RHPs this season.

CHC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Anthony Rizzo, Joc Pederson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 against RHPs this season.

Oakland Athletics (-125) @ Texas Rangers

Pitchers:

Athletics – Frankie Montas

Rangers – Kyle Gibson

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. The first thing I noticed is how well Olson and Laureano have done against Gibson in their careers. Olson is absolutely locked in at the plate. Montas is capable of putting up stud-like performances but he’s also capable of crapping the bed and allowing 5 runs in 4 innings.

OAK 5-star plays: Matt Olson

4-star plays: Ramon Laureano

GPP Note: Team ISO of .186 against RHPs this season.

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Adolis Garcia, Joey Gallo

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.

Cincinnati Reds (-121) @ Minnesota Twins

Pitchers:

Reds – Tyler Mahle

Twins – JA Happ

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. The Twins lineup takes a hit if Cruz is out with Donaldson. Buxton returned over the weekend and hit an HR on Sunday. The Reds are much better against RHPs but Castellanos destroys LHPs and Votto has had success against Happ. I like the Twins offense to be sneaky for GPPs with their young power.

CIN 5-star plays: Nick Castellanos

4-star plays: Joey Votto

GPP Note: Team ISO of .167 against LHPs this season.

MIN 5-star plays: Byron Buxton

4-star plays: Alex Kirilloff

GPP Note: Team ISO of .179 against RHPs this season.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Houston Astros
  2. Baltimore Orioles
  3. Oakland Athletics

MLB Dinger of the Day – Matt Olson, Oakland Athletics
