Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums. With that said, let’s get it started!
My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.
- Tyler Glasnow
- Chris Bassitt
- Max Fried

Minnesota Twins (-160) @ Baltimore Orioles
Pitchers:
Twins – Michael Pineda
Orioles – Bruce Zimmermann
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. The Twins just let us down a TON on Monday night but we need a short-term memory in DFS. I will be going right back to them here against an LHP. Pineda has been solid but he can give up some power to RHBs and the Orioles have a couple of bats that could take advantage of it.
MIN 5-star plays: Nelson Cruz, Mitch Garver
4-star plays: Kyle Garlick, Jorge Polanco
GPP Note: Team ISO of .192 against LHPs this season.
BAL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Trey Mancini, Maikel Franco
GPP Note: Team ISO of .140 against RHPs this season.
San Diego Padres @ Chicago Cubs
Pitchers:
Padres – Ryan Weathers
Cubs – Kyle Hendricks
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
SD 5-star plays: Tommy Pham
4-star plays: Fernando Tatis Jr, Wil Myers
GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against RHPs this season.
CHC 5-star plays: Kris Bryant
4-star plays: Patrick Wisdom, Willson Contreras
GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 against LHPs this season.
Pittsburgh Pirates @ Kansas City Royals (-177)
Pitchers:
Pirates – Wil Crowe
Royals – Brady Singer
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. Singer is going to find his way onto my list of options because I fall for his talent more than his actual performances right now. He gets a plus match-up while the KC bats are in a pretty decent spot against Crowe. One issue for KC is they lost Soler to an injury recently and Mondesi left Monday’s game with an injury issue.
PIT 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Adam Frazier
GPP Note: Team ISO of .116 against RHPs this season.
KC 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Salvador Perez, Andrew Benintendi
GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.
Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

Oakland Athletics (-153) @ Seattle Mariners
Pitchers:
Athletics – Chris Bassitt
Mariners – Marco Gonzales
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. Gonzales returns from the IL but he draws a tough match-up with an OAK squad that has hit LHPs with plenty of power. Bassitt is always a guy worth using and he’s probably going to be fairly popular on this slate as the Mariners are a pretty bad team right now.
OAK 5-star plays: Matt Chapman
4-star plays: Jed Lowrie
GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 against LHPs this season.
SEA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: JP Crawford
GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against RHPs this season.
Boston Red Sox @ Houston Astros (-115)
Pitchers:
Red Sox – Garrett Richards
Astros – Luis Garcia
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. Both teams have projected team totals over 4 in this game so we have to consider a game stack. I will continue to pick on Richards every time he takes the mound. Garcia has talent but this BOS lineup is difficult to deal with, despite what Urquidy was able to do to them on Monday.
BOS 5-star plays: Rafael Devers
4-star plays: JD Martinez
GPP Note: Team ISO of .196 against RHPs this season.
HOU 5-star plays: Kyle Tucker
4-star plays: Jose Altuve
GPP Note: Team ISO of .158 against RHPs this season.

Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians (-145)
Pitchers:
White Sox – Dylan Cease
Indians – Shane Bieber
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7. We know how good Bieber is but what we might not realize is that the White Sox have a few guys who have hit him really well in their careers. Cease is an interesting option for me as the Indians lineup isn’t overly deep but they will run a number of LHBs out there.
CWS 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu
GPP Note: Team ISO of .140 against RHPs this season.
CLE 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Cesar Hernandez, Eddie Rosario
GPP Note: Team ISO of .166 against RHPs this season.
Detroit Tigers @ Milwaukee Brewers (-153)
Pitchers:
Tigers – Matthew Boyd
Brewers – Eric Lauer
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. I have seen some sites list Houser as the SP for the Brewers so we will need verification tomorrow. Looking at the numbers, I really hope it’s Lauer because the Tigers are so bad against LHPs. Boyd has been solid and he gets a plus match-up against a Brewers squad that just doesn’t boast a very dangerous lineup.
DET 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: NONE
GPP Note: Team ISO of .089 against LHPs this season.
MIL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Avisail Garcia, Willy Adames
GPP Note: Team ISO of .167 over the last week.
New York Mets (-121) @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Pitchers:
Mets – David Peterson/Marcus Stroman
D’Backs – Caleb Smith
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I have two SPs listed for the Mets because I have seen Peterson listed in a bunch of places but the MLB Network broadcast (Monday night) says it will be Stroman. I actually would prefer it be Stroman as the D’Backs seem to have more pop against LHPs. Smith hasn’t been great and was moved to the bullpen but he gets the start here. The Mets aren’t a deep lineup right now but the return of Alonso helps them out a TON.
NYM 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Pete Alonso, Jonathan Villar
GPP Note: Team ISO of .132 against LHPs this season.
ARI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: David Peralta (vs Stroman), Escobar (vs Peterson)
GPP Note: Team ISO of .186 against LHPs and .144 against RHPs this season.
Washington Nationals @ Atlanta Braves (-135)
Pitchers:
Nationals – Stephen Strasburg
Braves – Max Fried
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. Fried is going to end up one of my favorite plays on DK as I think he’s just too cheap and he’s allowed just 1 run in each of his last 4 starts. Strasburg dominated this ATL squad to begin the season but then was lit up and ended up on the IL. He’s looked decent since but he hasn’t been elite. I always worry about using SPs against ATL, especially in Atlanta.
WSH 5-star plays: Trea Turner
4-star plays: Victor Robles, Starlin Castro
GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 against LHPs this season.
ATL 5-star plays: Freddie Freeman
4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr., Austin Riley
GPP Note: Team ISO of .197 against RHPs this season.
Tampa Bay Rays (-121) @ New York Yankees
Pitchers:
Rays – Tyler Glasnow
Yankees – Domingo German
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Glasnow is one of my favorite GPP SPs in baseball. He has massive K ability and he’s starting to become a true ace with his consistency. He can deal with some HR issues but his third pitch has really helped him increase his K rate. German has stepped up since returning from the minors and while the match-up isn’t great for him, I like the way he’s thrown recently.
TB 5-star plays: Austin Meadows
4-star plays: Randy Arozarena, Brandon Lowe
GPP Note: Team ISO of .174 against RHPs this season.
NYY 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Gio Urshela
GPP Note: Team ISO of .140 against RHPs this season.

St Louis Cardinals @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Pitchers:
Cardinals – John Gant
Dodgers – Undecided
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
STL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Yadier Molina, Nolan Arenado
GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 against RHPs this season.
LAD 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Max Muncy, Justin Turner
GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against RHPs this season.
Los Angeles Angels @ San Francisco Giants (-153)
Pitchers:
Angels – Andrew Heaney
Giants – Alex Wood
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7.5. I normally like Heaney but taking on SF seems like a tall task for him in this one. The Giants keep hitting, especially against LHPs. Wood has shown plenty at this point that shows me he’s worth rostering any time he takes the mound. He doesn’t have massive K upside but he should be decent. The Angels lineup isn’t very dangerous overall, especially if Ohtani is out of the lineup again.
LAA 5-star plays: Anthony Rendon
4-star plays: Jared Walsh
GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against LHPs this season.
SF 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Buster Posey, Evan Longoria
GPP Note: Team ISO of .191 against LHPs this season.
Philadelphia Phillies @ Cincinnati Reds (EVEN)
Pitchers:
Phillies – Aaron Nola
Reds – Sonny Gray
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7. I have to dig into this game a bit more as I normally love using Nola but he’s had some road issues. The Reds have hit extremely well at home this season. Gray hasn’t been spectacular but he’s been pretty solid while the Phillies lineup has struggled quite a bit with all the injuries they’ve dealt with.
PHI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Rhys Hoskins
GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against RHPs this season.
CIN 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jesse Winker, Nick Castellanos
GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 against RHPs this season.
Miami Marlins @ Toronto Blue Jays
Pitchers:
Marlins – Sandy Alcantara
Blue Jays – Robbie Ray
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7. Toronto returns to Buffalo at this point in the season and while the ballpark is nice for hitting, it’s not the same as the ballpark in Dunedin. Both of these SPs are very solid while Alcantara can struggle some, Ray has control issues at times but he has held them in check for most of this season. I always have stacks of the Blue Jays.
MIA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Starling Marte
GPP Note: Team ISO of .164 against LHPs this season.
TOR 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Rowdy Tellez, Marcus Semien
GPP Note: Team ISO of .185 against RHPs this season.
Texas Rangers @ Colorado Rockies (-121)
Pitchers:
Rangers – Dane Dunning
Rockies – German Marquez
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. We get a Coors game but it has a total of less than 10. I can’t remember the last time I saw that and it wasn’t some elite-level SP match-up. I am going to like both of these SPs as I just don’t believe in either of the offenses. There is definitely a lot of volatility in that but I am willing to be on the SPs more than the offenses for GPP purposes. I think some people just blindly stack Coors Field games.
TEX 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Adolis Garcia
GPP Note: Team ISO of .150 against RHPs this season.
COL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Ryan McMahon
GPP Note: Team ISO of .138 against RHPs this season.
Stacks of the Day: Main Slate
- Houston Astros
- Minnesota Twins
- San Francisco Giants
MLB Dinger of the Day – Austin Meadows, TB Rays
