Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums.  With that said, let’s get it started!

My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Corbin Burnes
  • Trevor Bauer
  • Dylan Cease

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. San Diego Padres (-125) @ New York Mets

Pitchers:

Padres – Joe Musgrove

Mets – Marcus Stroman

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. We don’t get to see deGrom again but this should still be a decent SP match-up. Musgrove has been a nice surprise for SD while Stroman just always finds ways to get outs. If I do end up stacking a team in this game, I will be looking at the Padres because of the contact that Stroman can allow.

SD 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Fernando Tatis Jr., Eric Hosmer

GPP Note: Team ISO of .144 against RHPs this season.

NYM 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Francisco Lindor, Billy McKinney

GPP Note: Team ISO of .144 against RHPs this season.

St Louis Cardinals @ Chicago Cubs (-157)

Pitchers:

Cardinals – John Gant

Cubs – Kyle Hendricks

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. Hendricks was moved back a day while Gant was lit up in his last start. With a total sitting at 9, I have to assume that the weather in Wrigley is prime for hitting today. I am looking at creating multiple game stacks plus a few other Cubs stacks because I think Gant allows too many baserunners.

STL 5-star plays: Paul Goldschmidt

4-star plays: Nolan Arenado, Tyler O’Neill

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against RHPs this season.

CHC 5-star plays: Anthony Rizzo

4-star plays: Joc Pederson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against RHPs this season.

Houston Astros (-111) @ Minnesota Twins

Pitchers:

Astros – Luis Garcia

Twins – Jose Berrios

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. The weather is great in Minnesota as the runs keep happening with HRs being the big reason why especially for the Twins. Berrios is obviously a strong SP but the Astros are a very difficult match-up for him. Garcia has surprised me so far this season but the Twins have some bats that can get to him.

HOU 5-star plays: Alex Bregman

4-star plays: Jose Altuve, Yuli Gurriel

GPP Note: Team ISO of .161 against RHPs this season.

MIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Nelson Cruz, Josh Donaldson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .180 against RHPs this season.

Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

DFS MLB Weather Picks

Kansas City Royals @ Oakland Athletics (-145)

Pitchers:

Royals – Jackson Kowar

Athletics – James Kaprielian

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. In a match-up of 2 of my SPs in dynasty, Kowar looked overwhelmed in his debut. Kaprielian has really been solid in entering the rotation and has held the job even with the return of Luzardo. I prefer to stack OAK as Kowar just might not be ready for the majors yet.

KC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Salvador Perez, Andrew Benintendi

GPP Note: Team ISO of .145 against LHPs this season.

OAK 5-star plays: Matt Olson

4-star plays: Mark Canha

GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against RHPs this season.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Boston Red Sox (-125)

Pitchers:

Blue Jays – Steven Matz

Red Sox – Nick Pivetta

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10. We get a double-digit total with two pitchers who are capable of also shutting down offenses. I won’t have a ton of interest in these two SPs but I certainly have interest in both offenses. I generally prefer the Red Sox against RHPs but they aren’t terrible against LHPs.

TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr.

4-star plays: Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien

GPP Note: Team ISO of .184 against RHPs this season.

BOS 5-star plays: Christian Vazquez, Hunter Renfroe

4-star plays: Xander Bogaerts, JD Martinez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against LHPs this season.

Chicago White Sox (-172) @ Detroit Tigers

Pitchers:

White Sox – Dylan Cease

Tigers – Jose Urena

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. Dylan Cease is going to end up one of my favorite SPs today as I am very much a believer in his stuff. He has flashed strong K upside and I expect this Detroit offense to cool off a bit. At some point the White Sox bats are going to hammer RHPs, I just have no idea when that’s going to happen.

CWS 5-star plays: Tim Anderson

4-star plays: Yoan Moncada, Jose Abreu

GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 against RHPs this season.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Harold Castro, Jonathan Schoop

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against RHPs this season.

Colorado Rockies @ Cincinnati Reds (-125)

Pitchers:

Rockies – German Marquez

Reds – Wade Miley

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. Marquez is definitely a quality SP but this ballpark just brings out the best of the Reds’ offense. They have an impressive ISO at home so far this season, especially against RHPs. A few of the Rockies’ bats are swinging it well and another couple has hit LHPs really well this season. I could definitely get behind game stacks of this one, in hopes of a 9-7 type ballgame.

COL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Josh Fuentes, Garrett Hampson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .163 against LHPs this season.

CIN 5-star plays: Joey Votto, Jonathan India

4-star plays: Nick Castellanos, Jesse Winker

GPP Note: Team ISO of .184 against RHPs this season.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Milwaukee Brewers (-290)

Pitchers:

Pirates – Chad Kuhl

Brewers – Corbin Burnes

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. At this point, I believe that Burnes is better than Woodruff. He may not be able to pitch as deeply consistently but I do think he has better K stuff and upside. I know the Pirates can be pesky but Burnes is in such a great spot. The Brewers can surprise while not having the greatest-looking lineup.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ke’Bryan Hayes

GPP Note: Team ISO of .118 against RHPs this season.

MIL 5-star plays: Avisail Garcia

4-star plays: Christian Yelich, Daniel Vogelbach

GPP Note: Team ISO of .153 against RHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves @ Miami Marlins

Pitchers:

Braves – Max Fried

Marlins – Undecided

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

ATL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr., Dansby Swanson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .195 against RHPs this season.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Adam Duvall, Starling Marte

GPP Note: Team ISO of .147 against LHPs this season.

San Francisco Giants @ Washington Nationals – Game 1

Pitchers:

Giants – Kevin Gausman

Nationals – Erick Fedde

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

SF 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Brandon Crawford, Buster Posey

GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 against RHPs this season.

WSH 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Kyle Schwarber, Josh Bell

GPP Note: Team ISO of .132 against RHPs this season.

San Francisco Giants @ Washington Nationals – Game 2

Pitchers:

Giants – Undecided

Nationals – Joe Ross

MLB DFS Winning Lineups $50,000

Seattle Mariners @ Cleveland Indians

Pitchers:

Mariners – Yusei Kikuchi

Indians – Triston McKenzie

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

SEA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Mitch Haniger, JP Crawford

GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 against RHPs this season.

CLE 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Harold Ramirez, Cesar Hernandez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against LHPs this season.

Texas Rangers @ Los Angeles Dodgers (-310)

Pitchers:

Rangers – Kolby Allard

Dodgers – Trevor Bauer

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. I am very interested in seeing Bauer throw in this game after all of the spin-rate talks over the last week. He draws a great match-up but is he going to struggle to get the Ks, up in the zone? I have no desire to use any Rangers bats but the Dodgers should be very popular after they exploded last night (as my top stack).

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: NONE

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.

LAD 5-star plays: Justin Turner

4-star plays: Albert Pujols, Chris Taylor

GPP Note: Team ISO of .163 against LHPs this season.

Baltimore Orioles @ Tampa Bay Rays (-216)

Pitchers:

Orioles – Jorge Lopez

Rays – Rich Hill

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Hill has been successful this season but they appear to be taking it easy on him again. Lopez continues to get out when it looks like he’s going to get hit hard. I am on the Rays side here as I can’t stop stacking against Lopez in hopes of him giving up 3 HRs.

BAL 5-star plays: Trey Mancini

4-star plays: Ryan Mountcastle

GPP Note: Team ISO of .182 against LHPs this season.

TB 5-star plays: Austin Meadows

4-star plays: Brandon Lowe, Randy Arozarena

GPP Note: Team ISO of .172 against RHPs this season.

Los Angeles Angels @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Pitchers:

Angels – Alex Cobb

D’Backs – Caleb Smith

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

LAA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Justin Upton, Max Stassi

GPP Note: Team ISO of .180 against LHPs this season.

ARI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ketel Marte, Pavin Smith

GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against RHPs this season.

New York Yankees (-125) @ Philadelphia Phillies

Pitchers:

Yankees – Jameson Taillon

Phillies – Vince Velasquez

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. I love seeing a total that could approach 10 in this contest. Taillon flashes stud stuff and then he randomly gives up multiple runs in an inning. Philly isn’t a team that is clicking offensively but they have the capability of getting hot. The Yankees might be waking up a bit but it’ll be interesting to see what lineup they run out there without the DH.

NYY 5-star plays: Aaron Judge

4-star plays: Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.

PHI 5-star plays: Odubel Herrera

4-star plays: Bryce Harper, Jean Segura

GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 against RHPs this season.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Atalanta Braves
  2. Tampa Bay Rays
  3. Toronto Blue Jays

MLB Dinger of the Day – Austin Meadows, TB Rays
