Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums.  With that said, let’s get it started!

My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Jacob deGrom
  • Brandon Woodruff
  • Clayton Kershaw

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. San Diego Padres @ New York Mets (-160)

Pitchers:

Padres – Blake Snell

Mets – Jacob deGrom

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 5.5. I wonder if this is going to be the new norm for deGrom games. A total sitting at just 5.5 runs seems insane. Snell has been really up and down but he’s struggled quite a bit on the road so far this season. I think the Mets bats offer some interesting GPP upside but more in a mini-stack than a full stack I believe.

Kansas City Royals @ Oakland Athletics (-135)

Pitchers:

Royals – Brady Singer

Athletics – Cole Irvin

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. With this game being in Oakland, I am not quite as excited. The Royals are generally better to target against RHPs but Irvin isn’t exactly a strong SP. Singer is somebody with some upside but OAK is really dangerous. Right now I am leaning towards using one-offs and maybe 2-man stacks from each team.

KC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Salvador Perez, Carlos Santana

GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against LHPs this season.

OAK 5-star plays: Matt Olson

4-star plays: Mark Canha

MLB DFS Research Projections

Chicago White Sox (-172) @ Detroit Tigers

Pitchers:

White Sox – Lucas Giolito

Tigers – Tarik Skubal

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Skubal has thrown some impressive outings recently with one being an 11 K performance against this CWS squad. The loss of Madrigal is definitely going to hurt the White Sox against LHPs but they still have a bunch of power. Giolito has massive upside, especially against a team like Detroit.

CWS 5-star plays: Tim Anderson

4-star plays: Yoan Moncada, Jose Abreu

GPP Note: Team ISO of .189 against LHPs this season.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Eric Haase, Jonathan Schoop

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against RHPs this season.

Colorado Rockies @ Cincinnati Reds

Pitchers:

Rockies – Kyle Freeland

Reds – Tyler Mahle

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

COL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Charlie Blackmon, Ryan McMahon

GPP Note: Team ISO of .138 against RHPs this season.

CIN 5-star plays: Nick Castellanos

4-star plays: Eugenio Suarez, Jesse Winker

GPP Note: Team ISO of .155 against LHPs this season.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Milwaukee Brewers (-260)

Pitchers:

Pirates – Chase De Jong

Brewers – Brandon Woodruff

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Woodruff is going to end up one of my top SP plays on the slate. I know the Pirates are pesky bats but he’s been so good and should be really strong here. Hayes is the main bat that I am worried about but he might forget to touch 1st on an HR again. The Brewers could score a few runs but it’s tough to predict what MIL is going to do.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ke’Bryan Hayes

GPP Note: Team ISO of .118 against RHPs this season.

MIL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Christian Yelich, Avisail Garcia

GPP Note: Team ISO of .153 against RHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves (-130) @ Miami Marlins

Pitchers:

Braves – Charlie Morton

Marlins – Sandy Alcantara

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. Both of the SPs are in play here thanks to a total of 7 (should be the 2nd lowest on the slate). I have a hard time trusting an SP against ATL but we just saw Wheeler absolutely dismantle them. The Marlins bats woke up on Thursday and that could carry over against an SP in Morton who has had some struggles this season.

ATL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr., Dansby Swanson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .195 against RHPs this season.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Corey Dickerson, Jazz Chisholm

GPP Note: Team ISO of .161 against LHPs this season.

San Francisco Giants @ Washington Nationals

Pitchers:

Giants – Anthony DeSclafani

Nationals – Max Scherzer

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

SF 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Brandon Crawford

GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 against RHPs this season.

WSH 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Juan Soto, Josh Bell

GPP Note: Team ISO of .132 against RHPs this season.

Seattle Mariners @ Cleveland Indians (-157)

Pitchers:

Mariners – Justin Dunn

Indians – Aaron Civale

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I am shocked to see this game with a total this high. Seattle is going to struggle to score runs while the Indians aren’t exactly a potent offense. Civale should be somewhat popular, depending on his price points. I can see some mini-stacks of offenses in this game being GPP viable but I just don’t think full stacks are the way to go.

SEA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Kyle Seager, JP Crawford

GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 against RHPs this season.

CLE 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Eddie Rosario, Jose Ramirez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against RHPs this season.

Texas Rangers @ Los Angeles Dodgers (-295)

Pitchers:

Rangers – Mike Foltynewicz

Dodgers – Clayton Kershaw

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Kershaw draws a great match-up as the Rangers are super weak overall and they struggle against LHPs. Folty is a guy that can blow up at any point but he also can surprise with some strong innings. I think the Dodgers get to him early and if they do, they get a very weak TEX bullpen.

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Adolis Garcia

GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 against LHPs this season.

LAD 5-star plays: Justin Turner

4-star plays: AJ Pollock, Chris Taylor

GPP Note: Team ISO of .167 against RHPs this season.

Baltimore Orioles @ Tampa Bay Rays (-160)

Pitchers:

Orioles – Keegan Akin

Rays – Ryan Yarbrough

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Yarbrough is the better SP in this game but BAL has been far better against LHPs than TB has been. I wouldn’t be shocked to see this game move to a total of 8.5 by the first pitch. Both of these lineups are worthy of GPP stacks and I am going to be all about the Mancini-Mountcastle mini-stack. Yarbrough has struggled in his career as a traditional starter so we have to pay attention as the day goes on, as TB could elect to use an opener.

BAL 5-star plays: Trey Mancini

4-star plays: Ryan Mountcastle

GPP Note: Team ISO of .182 against LHPs this season.

TB 5-star plays: Austin Meadows

4-star plays: Mike Zunino, Randy Arozarena

GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against LHPs this season.

Los Angeles Angels (-125) @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Pitchers:

Angels – Shohei Ohtani

D’Backs – Merrill Kelly

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. We get to see Ohtani hit as an SP in an NL park but yet we don’t get to utilize him as a hitter. When are the sites going to figure it out? The Angels could be a strong offense but I worry about how much Shohei could take away from our LAA stacks. Upton and Stassi have been swinging it really well and Walsh is just killing RHPs this season.

LAA 5-star plays: Jared Walsh

4-star plays: Justin Upton, Max Stassi

GPP Note: Team ISO of .171 against RHPs this season.

ARI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ketel Marte

GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against RHPs this season.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers
  2. Houston Astros
  3. Toronto Blue Jays

MLB Dinger of the Day – Hunter Renfroe, Boston Red Sox
