Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums.  With that said, let’s get it started!

My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Brandon Woodruff
  • Max Scherzer
  • Michael King

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. Combine the power of the Domination Station with our VIP Only Articles and the MLB Research Station to really take your game to the next level.

Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox (-245)

Pitchers:

Orioles – Keegan Akin

White Sox – Lucas Giolito

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. The White Sox should be popular yet again and for good reason. Just imagine this offense once Tim Anderson wakes up and Yasmani Grandal actually shows up to the park. Giolito is in a great spot but he’s not some slam dunk SP on this slate, especially when we can go with Woodruff/Scherzer.

BAL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Trey Mancini, Cedric Mullins

GPP Note: Team ISO of .140 against RHPs this season.

CWS 5-star plays: Jose Abreu

4-star plays: Nick Madrigal, Tim Anderson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 against LHPs this season.

San Diego Padres (EVEN) @ Houston Astros

Pitchers:

Padres – Blake Snell

Astros – Zack Greinke

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Really interested to see how Snell throws against the Astros. They are generally a team that can work pitch counts and we know that Snell has trouble getting to the 6th inning. Greinke keeps defying the odds a bit but I just don’t see him being strong against this SD team.

SD 5-star plays: Tommy Pham

4-star plays: Fernando Tatis Jr, Manny Machado

GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.

HOU 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 against LHPs this season.

Colorado Rockies @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Pitchers:

Rockies – Kyle Freeland

Pirates – Undecided

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

COL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Charlie Blackmon, Ryan McMahon

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Adam Frazier, Bryan Reynolds

GPP Note: Team ISO of .127 against LHPs this season.

Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

DFS MLB Weather Picks

Texas Rangers @ Seattle Mariners (-160)

Pitchers:

Rangers – Hyeon-Jong Yang

Mariners – Yusei Kikuchi

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. Kikuchi is somebody that we have to consider at home, against a weak-hitting TEX squad. Yang isn’t much of an SP at the MLB level but then again, Seattle’s lineup isn’t much of a lineup at the MLB level either. I can see going to this game for mini-stacks but going to be tough to sell me on a full stack.

TEX 5-star plays: Adolis Garcia

4-star plays: Nick Solak

GPP Note: Team ISO of .144 against LHPs this season.

SEA 5-star plays: Kyle Lewis

4-star plays: Mitch Haniger, Tom Murphy

GPP Note: Team ISO of .163 against LHPs this season.

Miami Marlins @ Boston Red Sox (-157)

Pitchers:

Marlins – Sandy Alcantara

Red Sox – Eduardo Rodriguez

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. I love this SP match-up but both guys are capable of getting knocked around a bit. Both guys draw the split for the offenses that they are most dangerous in. I trust E-Rod a little more than Alcantara as he has an offense to back him up more. I hope the weather is cold and windy here so I can use both SPs.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Starling Marte

GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against LHPs this season.

BOS 5-star plays: Rafael Devers

4-star plays: Xander Bogaerts, JD Martinez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .196 against RHPs this season.

MLB DFS Research Projections

Toronto Blue Jays @ Cleveland Indians – Game 1

Pitchers:

Blue Jays – Ross Stripling

Indians – Sam Hentges

Rundown:

Waiting on the updated Vegas information. I am not sure which order the teams will send out their SPs so look for an update tomorrow. I can’t get behind CLE much other than a mini-stack but I will definitely be on the Blue Jays yet again. The Blue Jays are one of the most dangerous offenses in baseball and they have a few guys that have been absolutely destroying LHPs so far in 2021.

TOR 5-star plays: Randal Grichuk, Bo Bichette

4-star plays: Teoscar Hernandez, Marcus Semien

GPP Note: Team ISO of .174 against LHPs this season.

CLE 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jose Ramirez, Eddie Rosario

GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against RHPs this season.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Cleveland Indians – Game 2

Pitchers:

Blue Jays – Steven Matz

Indians – Aaron Civale

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette

4-star plays: Teoscar Hernandez, Marcus Semien

GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 against RHPs this season.

CLE 5-star plays: Cesar Hernandez

4-star plays: Amed Rosario, Harold Ramirez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .158 against LHPs this season.

Milwaukee Brewers @ Washington Nationals (-121)

Pitchers:

Brewers – Brandon Woodruff

Nationals – Max Scherzer

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 6.5. Tough to not absolutely love this SP match-up. Woodruff has become so good and Scherzer, while getting up there in age and innings, is capable of masterful performances every time he takes the mound. Both guys draw pretty solid match-ups but I will lean Scherzer’s way slightly.

MIL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Christian Yelich

GPP Note: Team ISO of .143 against RHPs this season.

WSH 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Juan Soto, Trea Turner

GPP Note: Team ISO of .140 against RHPs this season.

St Louis Cardinals @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Pitchers:

Cardinals – Kwang-Hyun Kim

D’Backs – Undecided

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

STL 5-star plays: Tommy Edman, Tyler O’Neill

4-star plays: Nolan Arenado, Yadier Molina

GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 against RHPs this season.

ARI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Eduardo Escobar, Carson Kelly

GPP Note: Team ISO of .187 against LHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets (-121)

Pitchers:

Braves – Max Fried

Mets – Jacob deGrom

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 6. What a game for Sunday Night baseball. I honestly would not be shocked to see the total of this game move to 5.5 at some point on Sunday. Fried is capable of matching deGrom nearly pitch for pitch (as far as outs go, not Ks). With deGrom returning from an injury, he was a bit limited last time out so it’ll be interesting to see if he’s held to a pitch count of some sort. The Braves bats actually have a couple of decent BvP spots against deGrom, for what it’s worth.

ATL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Freddie Freeman, Austin Riley

GPP Note: Team ISO of .201 against RHPs this season.

NYM 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jonathan Villar

GPP Note: Team ISO of .133 against LHPs this season.

New York Yankees @ Detroit Tigers

Pitchers:

Yankees – Michael King

Tigers – Tarik Skubal

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

NYY 5-star plays: Aaron Judge

4-star plays: DJ LeMahieu, Clint Frazier

GPP Note: Team ISO of .153 against LHPs this season.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jeimer Candelario

GPP Note: Team ISO of .150 against RHPs this season.

MLB DFS Winning Lineups $50,000

San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers (-177)

Pitchers:

Giants – Kevin Gausman

Dodgers – Clayton Kershaw

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. We just saw the Giants bats get to an LHP from LA on Saturday night. Kershaw is so good but I want to talk about how elite Gausman has been this season. He’s been a top 3 SP in the NL so far and while this match-up is super tough, I am not betting against him.

SF 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Austin Slater, Donovan Solano

GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 against LHPs this season.

LAD 5-star plays: Max Muncy

4-star plays: Mookie Betts, Justin Turner

GPP Note: Team ISO of .171 against RHPs this season.

Los Angeles Angels @ Oakland Athletics (-145)

Pitchers:

Angels – Jose Quintana

Athletics – Cole Irvin

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. We get 2 LHPs on the mound here who could each give up 6 runs in about 4 innings or they could pick up 7 Ks in 4 innings of action. I much prefer the OAK bats as they have strong numbers against LHPs this season and Quintana has been worse than Irvin to this point.

LAA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Shohei Ohtani, Justin Upton

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against LHPs this season.

OAK 5-star plays: Chad Pinder

4-star plays: Mark Canha, Jed Lowrie

GPP Note: Team ISO of .187 against LHPs this season.

Kansas City Royals @ Minnesota Twins (-130)

Pitchers:

Royals – Brad Keller

Twins – Matt Shoemaker

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. We get the highest total on the slate in this game. Salvador Perez has the best BvP on the entire slate while the Twins have a bunch of guys that can hit the ball out of the park. I wish Kepler wouldn’t have gotten hurt on Saturday because he lines up well in this game.

KC 5-star plays: Salvador Perez

4-star plays: Carlos Santana

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.

MIN 5-star plays: Trevor Larnach

4-star plays: Josh Donaldson, Alex Kirilloff

GPP Note: Team ISO of .178 against RHPs this season.

Cincinnati Reds @ Chicago Cubs

Pitchers:

Reds – Tyler Mahle

Cubs – Jake Arrieta

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

CIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 against RHPs this season.

CHC 5-star plays: Kris Bryant

4-star plays: Javy Baez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .159 against RHPs this season.

Philadelphia Phillies @ Tampa Bay Rays

Pitchers:

Phillies – Zach Eflin

Rays – Collin McHugh

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

PHI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Rhys Hoskins, Jean Segura

GPP Note: Team ISO of .137 against RHPs this season.

TB 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Austin Meadows, Joey Wendle

GPP Note: Team ISO of .173 against RHPs this season.
