Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums. With that said, let’s get it started!
My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.
- Ian Anderson
- Julio Urias
- Zack Wheeler

Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox (-172) – Game 1
Pitchers:
Orioles – Matt Harvey
White Sox – Dallas Keuchel
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Remember that this game is a 7-inning match-up. Keuchel is a guy who has the name but he doesn’t have the stuff that he once had. I think the Orioles are a sneaky stack option but that will depend on Mancini’s status. The White Sox are going to be one of my favorite stacks as Harvey struggles with RHBs and guys like Abreu, Anderson, and Mercedes are in prime spots.
BAL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Trey Mancini, Anthony Santander
GPP Note: Team ISO of .168 against LHPs this season.
CWS 5-star plays: Jose Abreu
4-star plays: Yasmani Grandal, Tim Anderson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against RHPs this season.
Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox – Game 2
Pitchers:
Orioles – John Means
White Sox – Lance Lynn
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information. Remember that this game is a 7-inning game.
BAL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Cedric Mullins, Anthony Santander
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.
CWS 5-star plays: Jose Abreu
4-star plays: Tim Anderson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against RHPs this season.
San Diego Padres (-140) @ Houston Astros
Pitchers:
Padres – Yu Darvish
Astros – Jake Odorizzi
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. Odorizzi is returning from the IL but he was terrible prior to being put on the IL. I was shocked to see SD as just a -140 favorite with how he’s pitched. Darvish is always in play and he has a bit of animosity towards the Astros from their cheating against the Dodgers.
SD 5-star plays: Tommy Pham
4-star plays: Fernando Tatis Jr, Manny Machado
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.
HOU 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman
GPP Note: Team ISO of .159 against RHPs this season.
Colorado Rockies (-111) @ Pittsburgh Pirates – Game 1
Pitchers:
Rockies – Jon Gray
Pirates – Mitch Keller
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Keller is a guy that I can’t figure out. He has all sorts of arm talent but he’s been pretty bad at the MLB level. Keller will flash dominance at times and then others leaving you scratching your head. He draws a really good match-up so I can see him being GPP viable. I think that Jon Gray is in a great spot as the Pirates have struggled against RHPs all season long.
COL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Charlie Blackmon, Ryan McMahon
GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.
PIT 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Adam Frazier, Gregory Polanco
GPP Note: Team ISO of .109 against RHPs this season.
Colorado Rockies @ Pittsburgh Pirates – Game 2

Pirates – JT Brubaker
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information. Remember that this is a 7-inning game.

4-star plays: Charlie Blackmon, Ryan McMahon
GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.
PIT 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Bryan Reynolds, Will Craig
GPP Note: Team ISO of .127 against LHPs this season.
Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

Texas Rangers @ Seattle Mariners (-115)
Pitchers:
Rangers – Mike Foltynewicz
Mariners – Justin Dunn
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. We might have to consider both SPs along with a mini-stack or two from each team’s offense. There are some BvPs in play here but also just some solid pitch profile match-ups. The 8.5 run total in this ballpark is pretty nice as it’s not known as a hitter’s park by any means.
TEX 5-star plays: Adolis Garcia, Willie Calhoun
4-star plays: Nate Lowe, Isiah Kiner-Falefa
GPP Note: Team ISO of .155 against RHPs this season.
SEA 5-star plays: Kyle Lewis
4-star plays: Jarred Kelenic, Kyle Seager
GPP Note: Team ISO of .153 against RHPs this season.
Miami Marlins @ Boston Red Sox (-145)
Pitchers:
Marlins – Trevor Rogers
Red Sox – Nathan Eovaldi
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. I am a huge fan of Trevor Rogers and this match-up intrigues me. Boston does have a few guys who can hit LHPs well but overall, the lineup has been weaker against LHPs than RHPs so far this season. Eovaldi gets a decent match-up so he’s going to make my player pool.
MIA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Starling Marte
GPP Note: Team ISO of .124 against RHPs this season.
BOS 5-star plays: Hunter Renfroe
4-star plays: Xander Bogaerts, JD Martinez
GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against LHPs this season.

Toronto Blue Jays (-125) @ Cleveland Indians
Pitchers:
Blue Jays – Ross Stripling
Indians – Sam Hentges
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I can’t get behind CLE much other than a mini-stack but I will definitely be on the Blue Jays yet again. The Blue Jays are one of the most dangerous offenses in baseball and they have a few guys that have been absolutely destroying LHPs so far in 2021.
TOR 5-star plays: Randal Grichuk, Bo Bichette
4-star plays: Teoscar Hernandez, Marcus Semien
GPP Note: Team ISO of .174 against LHPs this season.
CLE 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jose Ramirez, Eddie Rosario
GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against RHPs this season.
Milwaukee Brewers @ Washington Nationals (-115) – Game 1
Pitchers:
Brewers – Brett Anderson
Nationals – Jon Lester
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. With two LHPs on the mound, we see a pretty nice game total despite the Brewers being a pretty below-average offense. I always fall for the Nationals offense, especially the top half of the lineup, and I always stack against Brett Anderson. Seems like a spot that I can’t ignore at this point.
MIL 5-star plays: Willy Adames, Manny Pina
4-star plays: Christian Yelich, Lorenzo Cain
GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against LHPs this season.
WSH 5-star plays: Trea Turner, Josh Harrison
4-star plays: Ryan Zimmerman, Yan Gomes
GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against LHPs this season.
Milwaukee Brewers @ Washington Nationals (-115) – Game 2
Pitchers:
Brewers – Freddy Peralta
Nationals – Patrick Corbin
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information. Remember that this game is a 7-inning match-up.
MIL 5-star plays: Willy Adames, Manny Pina
4-star plays: Lorenzo Cain
GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against LHPs this season.
WSH 5-star plays: Trea Turner, Juan Soto
4-star plays: Kyle Schwarber
GPP Note: Team ISO of .140 against RHPs this season.
St Louis Cardinals (-153) @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Pitchers:
Cardinals – Adam Wainwright
D’Backs – Seth Frankoff
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 10. Holy game total! I am shocked to see such a total with this weak ARI lineup going against Wainwright. I am going to have to dig in deeper in the morning so stay tuned to the chat for my breakdown of this spot. The Cardinals bats intrigue me quite a bit here as they are capable of 8+ runs any time they hit the field.
STL 5-star plays: Tommy Edman, Tyler O’Neill
4-star plays: Nolan Arenado, Yadier Molina
GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 against RHPs this season.
ARI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Josh Rojas, David Peralta
GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.
Atlanta Braves (-140) @ New York Mets
Pitchers:
Braves – Ian Anderson
Mets – Taijuan Walker
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 6.5. Love seeing such a low total here but what does it say about the Braves’ offense? Walker is returning from the IL so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of limitations he has or if he ends up re-injuring himself. Ian Anderson is in a great spot against whatever you want to call the lineup of the Mets right now. I shouldn’t have to talk you into Anderson as the Mets have been decimated by injuries.
ATL 5-star plays: Freddie Freeman
4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr., Austin Riley
GPP Note: Team ISO of .201 against RHPs this season.
NYM 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: NONE
GPP Note: Team ISO of .113 against RHPs this season.
New York Yankees (-145) @ Detroit Tigers
Pitchers:
Yankees – Deivi Garcia
Tigers – Spencer Turnbull
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. The Tigers just walked off the Yankees in the 10th inning after Cole was solid but not his normal self. Turnbull surprises me all the time but the Yankees have a couple of guys that have hit him very, very well. Garcia has ALL sorts of talent but he lacks consistency. He gets a plus match-up here.
NYY 5-star plays: DJ LeMahieu
4-star plays: Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.
DET 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Robbie Grossman
GPP Note: Team ISO of .150 against RHPs this season.

San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers (-195)
Pitchers:
Giants – Logan Webb
Dodgers – Julio Urias
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7.5. I love seeing Urias as such a strong favorite but I do worry because the Giants have some strong numbers against LHPs this season. Webb has impressed me this season but this just isn’t a match-up that I want to rely on him in. I expect the Dodgers to put up 6+ in this game.
SF 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Austin Slater, Buster Posey
GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 against LHPs this season.
LAD 5-star plays: Max Muncy
4-star plays: Gavin Lux, Justin Turner
GPP Note: Team ISO of .171 against RHPs this season.
Los Angeles Angels @ Oakland Athletics (-145)
Pitchers:
Angels – Alex Cobb
Athletics – Frankie Montas
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. With this being a day game in OAK, I really want to use bats in this game. Montas is a guy that can surprise us with some strong innings but he could implode a bit. Cobb is a guy that I just don’t think has enough to keep the A’s off of the board. The Dinger of the Day call comes from this game!
LAA 5-star plays: Jared Walsh
4-star plays: Anthony Rendon, Taylor Ward
GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 against RHPs this season.
OAK 5-star plays: Matt Olson
4-star plays: Mark Canha, Jed Lowrie
GPP Note: Team ISO of .181 against RHPs this season.
Kansas City Royals @ Minnesota Twins
Pitchers:
Royals – Undecided
Twins – JA Happ
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
KC 5-star plays: Carlos Santana
4-star plays: Hanser Alberto
GPP Note: Team ISO of .115 against LHPs this season.
MIN 5-star plays: Miguel Sano
4-star plays: Mitch Garver, Max Kepler
GPP Note: Team ISO of .204 over the last week.
Cincinnati Reds @ Chicago Cubs (-115)
Pitchers:
Reds – Luis Castillo
Cubs – Zach Davies
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 6.5. I am really curious about the weather here as a 6.5 total seems super low with the 2 pitchers that are scheduled. We get a handful of very strong BvP spots to attack but I have this feeling that the wind is expected to be howling in from centerfield.
CIN 5-star plays: Nick Castellanos
4-star plays: Jesse Winker
GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 against RHPs this season.
CHC 5-star plays: Joc Pederson, Ian Happ
4-star plays: Willson Contreras
GPP Note: Team ISO of .159 against RHPs this season.
Philadelphia Phillies @ Tampa Bay Rays (EVEN)
Pitchers:
Phillies – Zack Wheeler
Rays – Ryan Yarbrough
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7. Yarbrough has struggled as a traditional starter but he gets a weakened PHI lineup. Wheeler has been really good for PHI but now he takes on a hot TB squad. What is going to give with this game? With it being a 7 total, I expect both things to give. I am more likely to stack the hot TB bats at this point but don’t leave out PHI from a contrarian standpoint.
PHI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Andrew McCutchen, Jean Segura
GPP Note: Team ISO of .158 against LHPs this season.
TB 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Austin Meadows, Joey Wendle
GPP Note: Team ISO of .173 against RHPs this season.
Stacks of the Day: Main Slate
- Toronto Blue Jays
- Oakland Athletics
- Chicago Cubs
MLB Dinger of the Day – Matt Olson, Oakland A’s
