Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums.  With that said, let’s get it started!

My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Ian Anderson
  • Gerrit Cole
  • Hyun-Jin Ryu

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox (-213)

Pitchers:

Orioles – Matt Harvey

White Sox – Dallas Keuchel

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. Keuchel is a guy who has the name but he doesn’t have the stuff that he once had. I think the Orioles are a sneaky stack option but that will depend on Mancini’s status. The White Sox are going to be one of my favorite stacks as Harvey struggles with RHBs and guys like Abreu, Anderson, and Mercedes are in prime spots.

BAL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Trey Mancini, Anthony Santander

GPP Note: Team ISO of .168 against LHPs this season.

CWS 5-star plays: Jose Abreu

4-star plays: Yasmani Grandal, Tim Anderson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against RHPs this season.

San Diego Padres @ Houston Astros (EVEN)

Pitchers:

Padres – Dinelson Lamet

Astros – Framber Valdez

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I have to do some more reading on the pitchers here as pitch count information is going to be key for us. Lamet has been brought along slowly while Valdez will be making his season debut. I am a huge Valdez fan but I need to know that he has very little limitations when he takes the mound.

SD 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Fernando Tatis Jr, Austin Nola

GPP Note: Team ISO of .117 against LHPs this season.

HOU 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Yordan Alvarez, Michael Brantley

GPP Note: Team ISO of .159 against RHPs this season.

Colorado Rockies (-111) @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Pitchers:

Rockies – Jon Gray

Pirates – Mitch Keller

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Keller is a guy that I can’t figure out. He has all sorts of arm talent but he’s been pretty bad at the MLB level. Keller will flash dominance at times and then others leaving you scratching your head. He draws a really good match-up so I can see him being GPP viable. I think that Jon Gray is in a great spot as the Pirates have struggled against RHPs all season long.

COL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Charlie Blackmon, Ryan McMahon

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Adam Frazier, Gregory Polanco

GPP Note: Team ISO of .109 against RHPs this season.

DFS MLB Weather Picks

Texas Rangers @ Seattle Mariners (-115)

Pitchers:

Rangers – Jordan Lyles

Mariners – Justus Sheffield

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. The Rangers bats really let me down on Thursday night as I went overweight on them trying to find an edge. I might have to go back to them here as I don’t think anybody will be on them. With that said, the game does have a 9 total so there should be some offense in this one. I like some Mariners bats as one-off options.

TEX 5-star plays: Adolis Garcia, Nick Solak

4-star plays: Nate Lowe, Isiah Kiner-Falefa

GPP Note: Team ISO of .147 against LHPs this season.

SEA 5-star plays: Kyle Lewis

4-star plays: Jarred Kelenic, Mitch Haniger

GPP Note: Team ISO of .153 against RHPs this season.

Miami Marlins @ Boston Red Sox (-153)

Pitchers:

Marlins – Cody Poteet

Red Sox – Martin Perez

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. Perez is pitching decent enough that I don’t want to attack him with many bats outside of Duvall as a one-off power threat. Poteet has surprised me a bit but he draws a HUGE task trying to limit this dangerous Boston offense. He’s actually struggled more with RHBs than LHBs in his small sample size.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Adam Duvall

GPP Note: Team ISO of .167 against LHPs this season.

BOS 5-star plays: Rafael Devers

4-star plays: Xander Bogaerts, JD Martinez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .195 against RHPs this season.

MLB DFS Research Projections

Toronto Blue Jays (-157) @ Cleveland Indians

Pitchers:

Blue Jays – Hyun-Jin Ryu

Indians – Eli Morgan

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Ryu is going to go overlooked yet again and I will, most likely, be overweight on him. I know very little about Morgan right now but will have more information on him during the day so make sure to join in the chat and my discussion about him. Right now, the Blue Jays are going to sit at the top of my stack list because of the power they provide.

TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette

4-star plays: Teoscar Hernandez, Marcus Semien

GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 against RHPs this season.

CLE 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Harold Ramirez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .160 against LHPs this season.

Milwaukee Brewers @ Washington Nationals (-115)

Pitchers:

Brewers – Brett Anderson

Nationals – Jon Lester

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. With two LHPs on the mound, we see a pretty nice game total despite the Brewers being a pretty below-average offense.  I always fall for the Nationals offense, especially the top half of the lineup, and I always stack against Brett Anderson. Seems like a spot that I can’t ignore at this point.

MIL 5-star plays: Willy Adames, Manny Pina

4-star plays: Christian Yelich, Lorenzo Cain

GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 against LHPs this season.

WSH 5-star plays: Trea Turner, Josh Harrison

4-star plays: Ryan Zimmerman, Yan Gomes

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against LHPs this season.

St Louis Cardinals @ Arizona Diamondbacks (-111)

Pitchers:

Cardinals – Johan Oviedo

D’Backs – Madison Bumgarner

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. I was shocked to see the Cardinals with such a strong ISO against LHPs so far this season so I had to back off of my love of Bumgarner. Oviedo has flashed some ability but he just isn’t quite ready to have an every 5th-day role in a pitching staff at the MLB level.

STL 5-star plays: Paul Goldschmidt, Yadier Molina

4-star plays: Nolan Arenado, Tommy Edman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .194 against LHPs this season.

ARI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Josh Rojas, Ketel Marte

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against RHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves (-140) @ New York Mets

Pitchers:

Braves – Ian Anderson

Mets – Taijuan Walker

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 6.5. Love seeing such a low total here but what does it say about the Braves’ offense? Walker is returning from the IL so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of limitations he has or if he ends up re-injuring himself. Ian Anderson is in a great spot against whatever you want to call the lineup of the Mets right now. I shouldn’t have to talk you into Anderson as the Mets have been decimated by injuries.

ATL 5-star plays: Freddie Freeman

4-star plays: Ronald Acuna Jr., Austin Riley

GPP Note: Team ISO of .201 against RHPs this season.

NYM 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: NONE

GPP Note: Team ISO of .113 against RHPs this season.

New York Yankees (-240) @ Detroit Tigers

Pitchers:

Yankees – Gerrit Cole

Tigers – Casey Mize

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. Cole should be extremely popular and for obvious reasons. I feel like the Yankees bats will carry ownership but this game total tells me that Mize might be in a sneaky spot for an SP2 on DK. I keep waiting for the Yankees to explode with 5 or 6 HRs and 12+ runs but it just doesn’t happen.

NYY 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres

GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Robbie Grossman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .150 against RHPs this season.

MLB DFS Winning Lineups $50,000

San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers (-190)

Pitchers:

Giants – Anthony DeSclafani

Dodgers – Walker Buehler

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Buehler has tremendous upside but he probably goes overlooked on this slate with Cole to pay up to and guys like Ryu, Ohtani, and Anderson cheaper than him on DK. The Dodgers have a couple of solid BvP spots plus a guy in Muncy who is heating up for them. There’s an outside chance that Bellinger could return on Friday.

SF 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Mike Yastrzemski, Evan Longoria

GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 against RHPs this season.

LAD 5-star plays: Max Muncy

4-star plays: Gavin Lux, Justin Turner

GPP Note: Team ISO of .171 against RHPs this season.

Los Angeles Angels @ Oakland Athletics (-140)

Pitchers:

Angels – Shohei Ohtani

Athletics – Sean Manaea

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Ohtani has thrown extremely well against OAK in his career but he was struggling with down velocity in his last start. On DK, he will NOT accrue hitter points so we can only use him as an SP. Ohtani was scratched on Thursday due to, checks notes, traffic? Well isn’t that a random thing. Manaea should line up decent here as the Angels can struggle against LHPs while Ohtani gets the same match-up that I liked on Thursday night.

LAA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Justin Upton, Juan Lagares

GPP Note: Team ISO of .159 against LHPs this season.

OAK 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Mark Canha

GPP Note: Team ISO of .181 against RHPs this season.

Kansas City Royals @ Minnesota Twins (-145)

Pitchers:

Royals – Kris Bubic

Twins – Randy Dobnak

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. Dobnak is capable of baffling some hitters while the Royals have struggled of late, except for the two guys below. I will always stack the Twins against an LHP, especially at home. You could add the surprising Refsnyder and the ever-dangerous Donaldson to the list below.

KC 5-star plays: Andrew Benintendi

4-star plays: Carlos Santana

GPP Note: Team ISO of .147 against RHPs this season.

MIN 5-star plays: Nelson Cruz, Miguel Sano

4-star plays: Mitch Garver, Kyle Garlick

GPP Note: Team ISO of .191 against LHPs this season.

Cincinnati Reds @ Chicago Cubs

Pitchers:

Reds – Vladimir Gutierrez

Cubs – Adbert Alzolay

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

CIN 5-star plays: Nick Castellanos

4-star plays: Eugenio Suarez, Jesse Winker

GPP Note: Team ISO of .188 against RHPs this season.

CHC 5-star plays: Joc Pederson, Anthony Rizzo

4-star plays: Ian Happ, Kris Bryant

GPP Note: Team ISO of .159 against RHPs this season.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Toronto Blue Jays
  2. Minnesota Twins
  3. Chicago White Sox
