Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums. With that said, let’s get it started!
My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.
- Shane Bieber
- Pablo Lopez
- Shane McClanahan

Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox (-213)
Pitchers:
Orioles – Bruce Zimmermann
White Sox – Dylan Cease
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. Cease and the White Sox are in a great spot as I expect the offense to do some scoring while he should pitch well enough to be in some GPP lineups. I love the way this CWS lineup comes together against LHPs, especially when they slide Madrigal into the 2-spot.
BAL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Trey Mancini, Anthony Santander
GPP Note: Team ISO of .135 against RHPs this season.
CWS 5-star plays: Nick Madrigal, Jose Abreu
4-star plays: Andrew Vaughn, Tim Anderson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .193 against LHPs this season.
San Diego Padres (-125) @ Milwaukee Brewers
Pitchers:
Padres – Ryan Weathers
Brewers – Adrian Houser
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. I want to say that we should see the Padres bats wake up a bit but I just don’t know right now. They aren’t exactly destroying the baseball right now. Weathers intrigues me against a MIL team that I think is one of the weaker offenses in the National League, especially against LHPs.
SD 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Fernando Tatis Jr, Jake Cronenworth
GPP Note: Team ISO of .153 against RHPs this season.
MIL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Avisail Garcia
GPP Note: Team ISO of .153 against LHPs this season.
Chicago Cubs (-135) @ Pittsburgh Pirates
Pitchers:
Cubs – Kyle Hendricks
Pirates – Tyler Anderson
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. There is some really solid BvP in this game so I will be looking to use some mini-stacks here with maybe one or two shares of a full Cubs stack for GPPs as well. Hendricks is a guy that I can’t figure out because he allows runs in spots that he shouldn’t and then he pitches above his head in spots that his struggles should hurt him.
CHC 5-star plays: Kris Bryant, Javy Baez
4-star plays: Anthony Rizzo, Joc Pederson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 against LHPs this season.
PIT 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Adam Frazier, Gregory Polanco
GPP Note: Team ISO of .108 against RHPs this season.

Texas Rangers @ Seattle Mariners
Pitchers:
Rangers – Undecided
Mariners – Chris Flexen
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
TEX 5-star plays: Nate Lowe, Adolis Garcia
4-star plays: Nick Solak, Willie Calhoun
GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against RHPs this season.
SEA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: JP Crawford
GPP Note: Team ISO of .124 over the last week.
Philadelphia Phillies @ Miami Marlins (-140)
Pitchers:
Phillies – Spencer Howard
Marlins – Pablo Lopez
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7. I am curious to read up on what the PHI plan is for Howard. He’s one of their top SP prospects and he’s flashed big-time stuff. Lopez is in a GREAT spot against a weakened PHI lineup without Harper, Realmuto, and Gregorius. I would imagine that I will be overweight on Lopez in this game.
PHI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Brad Miller, Rhys Hoskins
GPP Note: Team ISO of .138 against RHPs this season.
MIA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Corey Dickerson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .125 against RHPs this season.

Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees (-160) – Game 1
Pitchers:
Blue Jays – Alek Manoah
Yankees – Domingo German
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. The Yankees keep letting us down so I am not sure what to do with them against a very talented but raw pitcher, making his MLB debut. German has thrown the ball exceptionally well since being re-called but this is going to be his toughest test as Vladdy Jr is just destroying baseballs right now.
TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr.
4-star plays: Teoscar Hernandez, Marcus Semien
GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 against RHPs this season.
NYY 5-star plays: Gleyber Torres
4-star plays: DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.
Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees (-160) – Game 2
Pitchers:
Blue Jays – Robbie Ray
Yankees – Jordan Montgomery
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information. Remember that this game is a 7 inning match-up.
TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero Jr.
4-star plays: Teoscar Hernandez, Marcus Semien
GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 against LHPs this season.
NYY 5-star plays: Gleyber Torres
4-star plays: DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge
GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 against LHPs this season.
Cincinnati Reds @ Washington Nationals (-135)
Pitchers:
Reds – Sonny Gray
Nationals – Stephen Strasburg
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. We should see a really solid pitching match-up but one that I think we can use bats as one-offs for our GPP builds. There is some HRs available to be had here and my guess is Winker and Soto are the ones to go deep. We HAVE to pay attention to the start time of this game as Wednesday night’s game was just suspended so I am assuming they are finishing it before they start this game on Thursday.
CIN 5-star plays: Nick Castellanos
4-star plays: Jesse Winker
GPP Note: Team ISO of .187 against RHPs this season.
WSH 5-star plays: Juan Soto, Josh Bell
4-star plays: Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.
St Louis Cardinals @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Pitchers:
Cardinals – Carlos Martinez
D’Backs – Matt Peacock
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
STL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Nolan Arenado
GPP Note: Team ISO of .151 against RHPs this season.
ARI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Josh Rojas, Ketel Marte
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.
Colorado Rockies @ New York Mets (-125) – Game 1
Pitchers:
Rockies – German Marquez
Mets – Marcus Stroman
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 6.5. We jumped all over the SPs in Tuesday night’s game and we are going to do it again on Wednesday. Seeing a total this low without elite SPs on the mound really tells you what kind of offenses we are dealing with here. My first thought is that I prefer Marquez to Stroman but it’s very close.
COL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Charlie Blackmon, Trevor Story
GPP Note: Team ISO of .148 against RHPs this season.
NYM 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jonathan Villar, Francisco Lindor
GPP Note: Team ISO of .112 against RHPs this season.
Colorado Rockies @ New York Mets (-125) – Game 2
Pitchers:
Rockies – Antonio Senzatela
Mets – Joey Lucchesi
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information. Remember that this game is a 7 inning match-up.
COL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: CJ Cron, Trevor Story
GPP Note: Team ISO of .180 against LHPs this season.
NYM 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jonathan Villar, Francisco Lindor
GPP Note: Team ISO of .112 against RHPs this season.
Cleveland Indians (-172) @ Detroit Tigers
Pitchers:
Indians – Shane Bieber
Tigers – Matthew Boyd
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7. We get a great pitching match-up here as Bieber is a very nice favorite while Boyd gets to take on a CLE squad without Franmil Reyes. I have no desire to use bats against these guys at first glance. If I had to guess, Bieber will be my highest owned SP on the slate.
CLE 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Jose Ramirez, Jordan Luplow
GPP Note: Team ISO of .161 against LHPs this season.
DET 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Robbie Grossman
GPP Note: Team ISO of .150 against RHPs this season.

San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Pitchers:
Giants – Alex Wood
Dodgers – Undecided
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
SF 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Brandon Crawford, Buster Posey
GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 over the last 7 days.
LAD 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Mookie Betts, Chris Taylor
GPP Note: Team ISO of .140 against LHPs this season.
Los Angeles Angels @ Oakland Athletics (-140)
Pitchers:
Angels – Shohei Ohtani
Athletics – Chris Bassitt
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8. Ohtani has thrown extremely well against OAK in his career but he was struggling with down velocity in his last start. On DK, he will NOT accrue hitter points so we can only use him as an SP. Bassitt is a guy that I love using but do have some worries about him. With this game being at night, the ball shouldn’t fly very well in Oakland.
LAA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: David Fletcher, Jared Walsh
GPP Note: Team ISO of .175 against RHPs this season.
OAK 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Mark Canha
GPP Note: Team ISO of .181 against RHPs this season.
Kansas City Royals @ Tampa Bay Rays (-160)
Pitchers:
Royals – Brady Singer
Rays – Shane McClanahan
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 7.5. I was shocked to see this game open at 7.5 with how TB had been swinging the bats plus facing Singer. McClanahan is in an interesting spot as the Royals have struggled quite a bit, both recently and against LHPs on the season. I will probably use a lot of TB mini-stacks and one-offs in my builds.
KC 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Whit Merrifield, Carlos Santana
GPP Note: Team ISO of .119 against LHPs this season.
TB 5-star plays: Austin Meadows
4-star plays: Joey Wendle, Ji-Man Choi
GPP Note: Team ISO of .174 against RHPs this season.
Stacks of the Day: Main Slate
- Chicago White Sox
- Texas Rangers
- St Louis Cardinals
MLB Dinger of the Day – Vlad Guerrero Jr, Toronto Blue Jays
