My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target. But it also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the Nilly’s MLB Carnage Report, this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that popped out to me at first glance.
- Clayton Kershaw
- Yu Darvish
- Sixto Sanchez

Full Count Breakdown for MLB DFS:
Cincinnati Reds @ Atlanta Braves (-138)
Starting Pitchers:
Reds – Luis Castillo
Braves – Ian Anderson
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total set at 7.5 runs. After a thrilling 0-0 ballgame into extra innings, the Braves finally walked it off with a single by Freeman on Wednesday night. We get another strong SP match-up here as Castillo is extremely nasty, while Anderson has some impressive raw stuff. I do not expect to see a 0-0 game into extra innings again but I wouldn’t be shocked to see another gameplay to the under.

Chicago White Sox @ Oakland Athletics
Starting Pitchers:
White Sox – Dane Dunning
Athletics – Sean Manaea or Mike Fiers
Rundown:
Waiting on Vegas information.
CWS 5-star plays: Jose Abreu
4-star plays: Yasmani Grandal
GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 over the last 6 games.
OAK 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Ramon Laurano, Stephen Piscotty
GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 over the last 7 games.
Miami Marlins @ Chicago Cubs
Starting Pitchers:
Marlins – Sixto Sanchez
Cubs – Yu Darvish
Rundown:
Waiting on Vegas information. I assume we are waiting on the wind information at Wrigley. I absolutely LOVE this pitching match-up so I hope we see a neutral wind. Sanchez has been really strong in his debut season and has the stuff to battle the LHBs of the Cubs. Darvish was spectacular at home during the regular season.
MIA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Corey Dickerson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .119 over the last 6 games.
CHC 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Willson Contreras
GPP Note: Team ISO of .199 over the last 6 games.
Winning at MLB DFS is about correlation and constructing lineups that can actually win a big GPP. Take full advantage of positive variance with an optimizer giving you the ability to build around historically winning combinations of players.

St Louis Cardinals @ San Diego Padres
Starting Pitchers:
Cardinals – Adam Wainwright
Padres – Zach Davies
Rundown:
Waiting on Vegas information. I love the way that Davies lines up here as the Padres are going to need him to win this game for them. They used a ton of their bullpen on Wednesday and are going to need to rely on the bullpen on Friday if they extend it to 3 games. Wainwright is always a guy that I use because I have very little fear of him getting blown up.
STL 5-star plays: Matt Carpenter
4-star plays: Dylan Carlson, Paul Goldschmidt
GPP Note: Team ISO of .118 over the last 7 games.
SD 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Fernando Tatis Jr, Wil Myers
GPP Note: Team ISO of .178 over the last 6 games.

Milwaukee Brewers @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Starting Pitchers:
Brewers – Brandon Woodruff
Dodgers – Clayton Kershaw
Rundown:
Waiting on Vegas information. The Brewers have some guys that profile decently here but it’s still Clayton Kershaw at home. Woodruff came on in the second half of this short season but the match-up is less than ideal. Milwaukee is going to need him the same way that the Padres need Davies to step up.
MIL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Christian Yelich, Avisail Garcia
GPP Note: Team ISO of .110 over the last 7 games.
LAD 5-star plays: Corey Seager
4-star plays: Joc Pederson, Cody Bellinger
GPP Note: Team ISO of .316 over the last 6 games.
Mini Stacks of the Day:
- Matt Carpenter-Paul Goldschmidt-Dylan Carlson
- Cody Bellinger-Joc Pederson
- Eugenio Suarez-Nick Castellanos
Playoff Prediction of the Day:
We see 3 of the 4 N.L. match-ups get extended to game 3 on Friday. I will also say that Sixto Sanchez and Yu Darvish combine to strike out at least 16 batters in the Marlins-Cubs game.
