Donuts to Dollars
The GPP/MME playbook is more or less a foundation to build upon for your Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) tournament strategy and mass-multi entry (MME) adventures. The following approach is how I am going to MME the main slate on FanDuel and DraftKings. MLB DFS Pitching Pool Strategy for MME (tiny pool today!)
Zac Gallen has to get his walks under control but paying up slightly for him over Reynaldo Lopez might be a nice way to price point pivot away from a volatile option. Gallen has tons of strikeout potential and if he keeps the walks down to 1-2 in the game I think we see him finally going 6 innings and getting a quality start, win, and 7 or 8 Ks.
Reynaldo Lopez has the opportunity to face the weak and feeble Marlins lineup that we have seen bad pitchers succeed against in back to back outings. Lopez is coming off two brilliant performances (for him) so I am worried about ownership. If his is elevated he’s a nice fade option. Be sure to check our ownership projections inside the DS optimizer.
Brad Keller is really cheap and has been superb in back to back outings. Similar to Lopez, he either keeps up the dream streak and provides us with immense value or turns back into a pumpkin. Either way, we have investments into the Braves offense and the Marlins offense so we are covered no matter what for MME.
Marcus Stroman might be the sneakiest arm on the slate due to his price point. It’s an awkward price tag considering the cheaper options available or paying up for better pitchers for just a few hundred dollars more. This provides us with a nice opportunity to get a pitcher that is in the zone right now and against a team that can go ice cold in a hurry. Single-digit ownership likely in his future for tonight and plenty of upside. I like it, I like it a lot.
Patrick Corbin is the only guy I pay up for at the highest end of the price range tonight. He has the highest probability of hitting his ceiling and the longest track record of doing so. The Rockies also are hot and cold and who knows what type of lineup they will have in the second game of a double-header today and against a left-handed pitcher.
Adam Wainwright has plenty of upside and should be low-owned after his horrendous outing last game. I love when good pitchers (and Adam is one this season) have a bad game because we can go back to the well the following start. He’s had a bad start twice over his last ten only to bounce bag in a nice way the following game. The Pirates offenses is bad right now and has been since July 12th. Fire him up with solid mid-tier price range confidence.
Tier 1 MLB Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings
These are the teams I want to stack with my highest exposure. Whether you decide to use the controlled stacks (example below) or the randomized stack exposure (as I do, the example provided), I’ll have my highest percentage on the Tier 1 teams). Daily fantasy sports are not just about being contrarian. A key strategy is to also have contrarian exposure to your plays.
Washington Nationals 50-75%
I want to go extremely overweight on the Nationals against a Rockies team that will be playing their third game in 24 hours. Their bullpen was taxed on Tuesday night when the Nats smacked them around for 17 hits and 11 ER. Jon Gray is facing them during the day and I have a feeling he’s going to go 6 or so innings and give that bullpen a slight break. However, Kyle Freeland (who’s been their worst pitcher) is on the mound Wednesday night. He has given up 5 or more ER in 4 straight starts and has not made it past the 4th inning. Terrible. There is upside for days here and look to Howie Kendrick to be batting at the top or middle of the order at a super cheap price tag over on FanDuel.
Tier 2 MLB Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings
These are the teams I am generally using to hedge my pitcher investment and/or don’t have a clear read on what might happen but understand extreme outcomes are possible. My strategy is to have the volatile stacks paired with the Tier 1 stacks that have a higher success rate.
New York Yankees 30-50%
Opposing pitcher Jake Odorizzi has stuck out 3 or fewer hitters in 4 out of his last 5 starts and has given up 6 HRs in his 4 starts. So he’s not striking people out and giving up the long ball? Oh boy, he might be in big trouble against the Yankees lineup that just went nuclear on Tuesday night. Didi Gregorious getting hot makes the bottom of the order that much more potent and rally’s more probable to continue. I think they have a better chance of going off than the Braves for what it’s worth.
Atlanta Braves 30-50%
The Braves kind of were a letdown yesterday but have a nice opportunity here against a guy who game loggers might use today (Brad Keller). We can leverage that ownership by using Braves stacks against him. I love the lefties here and Acuna Jr. at the top of the order. While I am not sure about the probability of popping off I love the potential in this matchup.
Dodgers 20-40%
They have the highest implied run total on the slate which kind of makes me want to be underweight on them because they are a pretty volatile offense, surprisingly. We also are going to roll with some Jaime Barria in the hopes that we can leverage that ownership. This is simply a hedge investment.
Miami Marlins 20-40%
Listen, this is really only if you think Reynaldo Lopez is going to garner heavy ownership. If our projections show him for 20% or more I absolutely want some Marlins stacks against a very volatile pitcher who can look absolutely wretched when he’s lost control on the mound. Walks, extra-base hits, and runs would be abundant for the Marlins if he craps the bed. We also leverage the ownership of the field.

This is my personal strategy to use the DFS Army Domination Station optimizer for MLB MME
-
Cut all pitchers out of my player pool that I know I 100% DO NOT WANT
- Add in all the pitchers I am okay with the optimizer using my playbook and uncheck all the other pitchers.
-
Identify all teams I want to stack
- If using controlled stacks then create my player pool of hitters for MME
- If using the randomized stacks (which I do) then I begin to create percentages for all my favorite teams to target adding up to 160-180%
- Leave 20-40% stack exposure to allow the optimizer to fill in some random optimized stacks according to your pitcher pool to have some unbiased lineups
-
Prepare my 150 entry settings
- 3 uniques
- tournament mode
- DFS Army points
- Make sure allow opposing pitchers is unchecked and confirmed players only is checked.
- Maximum exposure cap of 60% is how I usually roll with it. The higher the exposure cap the more “all-in” you will be on a player or two. Sometimes when I feel great about my pitching pool or stacking tiers I will run it at 80-100%.
- Set legacy random stack setting to 4-3 for FanDuel and 5-2 for DraftKings and CHECK “PRIORITIZE LINEUPS”
- Run the optimizer
- Look at the batters used in the stacks. Did I create 100 Houston lineups and only get 5 George Springers? Okay, use the like/love/adore buttons or boost his projection until I get more of him. Did I get 50 out of 50 Boston stacks with Jackie Bradley and no J.D. Martinez? Boost Martinez and potentially use the dislike buttons on Bradley until he’s a bit lower and Martinez is involved.
- You have to tinker a bit to get the higher upside guys sometimes ^^^
- Re-run the optimizer until you get what you’re looking for
- Go watch Netflix until the games are over and your daily fantasy sports entries are final
- Make a plate of chips and salsa, too
I slapped this video together during the kiddos’ nap time to show you the ease of use with the DFS Army optimizer. I hope it helps seeing it on video in conjunction with the article
