Donuts to Dollars

The GPP/MME playbook is more or less a foundation to build upon for your DFS tournament strategy and mass-multi entry (MME) adventures. I personally am a full-time MME player across all major platforms each night. The strategy I have laid out for you is where I personally am with how I plan on attacking the slate.

MLB DFS Pitching Pool for MME

Yu Darvish is affordable and has a decent ceiling now that he’s striking people out again. over his last 28.1 IP he has accumulated 36 strikeouts. On top of that, in 4 out of his last 5 starts he has held opposing teams to 3 or less earned runs. His price tag is solid on FanDuel but I like him in my pool for DraftKings much more at an extremely valuable $7,100. Great play over there.

Dakota Hudson has held opposing hitters to a 168 foot batted ball distance and an 89 MPH exit velocity over his last two appearances. Unfortunately, he still struggles with finding the strike zone (just 59% strike ration this year) and has 12 walks in his last 29.1 IP. He pitches to contact and doesn’t make bats miss that often. He’s not in play on FanDuel but I do like his $6,200 price tag on DraftKings to allow the optimizer to jam in some stud stacks.

Martin Perez is only in play on DraftKings and only if the weather is solid. He is struggling with walks as of late but the Indians are super volatile and Perez does have upside against a predominantly left-handed hitting lineup. He’s similar to another pitcher in this article that you will read about soon. He’s perfect for MME due to volatility. Embrace it.

MME Pitchers I’ll give a minimum 3-5%

Charlie Morton is a bit priced up but he has the matchup I like, facing the Tigers who stink against right-handed pitching. He has been consistent and offers a nice mix of high-floor and high-ceiling production, too. Over his last two games, he has racked up 16 K’s in 13 IP and has limited opposing hitters to a 205 foot batted ball distance and a 35% hard hit rate. Currently, he’s a -188 favorite and the Tigers have a 3.8 implied run total (IRT).

German Marquez is on the road and Wrigley Field has the wind blowing in and just a low-60 degree day? Sign me up! The Cubs are currently favorites but have a feeble 3.9 IRT. I think due to his price point he will be slightly overlooked on FanDuel while on DraftKings he will be very low-owned because he’s at $10,300 and around other aces in good spots.

John Means is an elite option on DraftKings at just $5,800. The Rangers are not the best against left-handed pitchers and Means has scored 23.95, 19.30, and 23.70 DraftKings points in 3 out of his last 5 starts. Yes, he’s been blown up in the other two games but this is what makes him an excellent MME option for DFS. Embrace the volatility and his upside at 3-5% ownership against potentially chalky Rangers stacks. That’s how you leverage the field!

Brad Peacock is a great price tag on both sites but I love him on FanDuel for the quality start and win bonus totaling 10 points. At just $8,600, he’s dripping with upside. He’ll be in my MME pool for DraftKings but deserves more attention on FanDuel.

Single Entry GPP Pitchers

With just a 25% hard hit rate allowed over his last two starts, Brad Peacock is in good position to limit the power of the Mariners and attack their volatility. With 8 and 9 strikeouts in 2 out of his last 3 starts, I think he nears double-digits tonight and racks up the win and quality start. I really love this spot and his FanDuel price tag.

Specific Daily Fantasy MLB Stacks and Teams to Target for Stacking for GPPs and MME

When I select my stacks I like to run through the trending tab, batter matchups tab, top-10 lists for a bunch of different stats, and the top rated players within the Research Station. I set the FanDuel stacks to 4-3 and the DraftKings stacks to 5-2 in the DFS Army optimizer.

Tier 1 Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

These are the teams I want to stack with my highest exposure. Whether you decide to use the controlled stacks (example below) or the randomized stack exposure (as I do, the example provided), I’ll have my highest percentage on the Tier 1 teams).

Houston Astros 40-60%

It’s a tough night to separate teams and targets so I am going to focus on the better hitting teams overall and not get too cute with matchups. The Astros has more potential than any other lineup and can hit both left and right handed pitchers. We saw them pop off on Tuesday night and I can see the same thing happening again.

Milwaukee Brewers 40-60%

If the Brewers can force some walks against Sandy Alcantara, I think their power can bust this slate wide open. While the outcome will be volatile I absolutely love most of the Brewers players current price points. The stacks with them are easy on both FanDuel and DraftKings and the pitching combinations that are popping in the optimizer are superb with Milwaukee in the lineups. Embrace the volatility (catch the theme here?).

Tier 2 Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

These are the teams I am generally using to hedge my pitcher investment and/or don’t have a clear read on what might happen but understand extreme outcomes are possible.

Saint Louis Cardinals 20-40%

Anthony DeSclafani has a .347 xwOBA, 5.19 FIP, and .294 AVG allowed with just a 19.9% strikeout rate in 141 plate appearances against the Cards hitters. Simply put, they own him. They are affordable enough to stack and have broken a few slates this season with 12 + runs. I would not be shocked to see another one occur against DeSclafani and the bullpen.

Texas Rangers 20-40%

While they aren’t the best against left-handed pitchers, they can pour on the runs in a hurry. If they do get through Means early then they’ll get to feast on the beat up and battered Orioles bullpen. Similar to last night’s 11 spot on the scoreboard, the Rangers can score in a hurry and don’t need more than an inning or two for your stacks to pay off in a big way.

Boston Red Sox 30-50%

Jake Junis has not been terrible this season but he also has not been very good. The Red Sox lineup has plenty of potential and similar to the Yankees, anytime they are possibly going to be lower owned is when I want to roster them.

New York Yankees 30-50%

Trent Thornton strikes out a ton of hitters and his swinging strike potential is evident. However, he walks a ton of batters (3, 3, 1, 5, 5, over his last 5 starts) and gives up way too many home runs. The Yankees can absolutely smash the ball up and down their lineup and they potentially could be very low-owned tonight.

Remaining Exposure Percentage

Any remaining exposure percentage that is leftover I am going to allow the optimizer to fill in at random. Baseball is incredibly volatile and hard to predict. While we can project outcomes, predicting them is inherently a losing battle. Allowing the DS to plug in stacks embraces the random factor that MLB DFS has to offer.

Or if you want to have controlled stacks and select the specific players you want to be used and in what type of stacks then you can used the controlled hitter stack setting. This is just an example and I randomly clicked through quickly and was able to pump out 50 lineups in a flash. I would also make sure the stack percentage was at 100% on each side for a real optimized CSV file.

Domination Station DFS Optimizer for GPP’s and Mass-Multi Entering (MME)

This is how I personally use the DFS Army Domination Station optimizer for MLB MME

  1. Cut all pitchers out of my player pool that I know I 100% DO NOT WANT

    1. Add in all the pitchers I am okay with the optimizer using and then put 3-5% minimum exposure on my favorite pitchers (the above pitching pool). This ensures that they show up in at least 7-10 out of my 150 lineups.
  2. Identify all teams I want to stack

    1. If using controlled stacks then create my player pool of hitters for MME
    2. If using the randomized stacks (which I do) then I begin to create percentages for all my favorite teams to target adding up to 160-180%
    3. Leave 20-40% stack exposure to allow the optimizer to fill in some random optimized stacks according to your pitcher pool to have some unbiased lineups
  3. Prepare my 150 entry settings

    1. 3 uniques
    2. optimal mode
    3. DFS Army points
    4. Make sure allow opposing pitchers is unchecked
    5. Maximum exposure cap of 60% is how I roll with it. The higher the exposure cap the more “all-in” you will be on a player or two (which I am not a fan of for MLB right now)
    6. Set random stack setting to 4-3 for FanDuel and 5-2 for DraftKings
  4. Run the optimizer
    1. Look at the batters used in the stacks. Did I create 100 Houston lineups and only get 5 George Springers? Okay, use the like/love/adore buttons or boost his projection until I get more of him. Did I get 50 out of 50 Boston stacks with Jackie Bradley and no J.D. Martinez? Boost Martinez and potentially use the dislike buttons on Bradley until he’s a bit lower and Martinez is involved.
    2. You have to tinker a bit to get the higher upside guys sometimes ^^^
  5. Re-run the optimizer until you get what you’re looking for
    1. Go watch Netflix until the games are over
    2. Make a plate of chips and salsa, too
