HR Hunting - DFS MLB Power Picks and Homeruns for Higher Fanduel and Draftkings Scores - May 20

Welcome to a test version of a future MLB article from your friends at DFS Army.  The goal of this piece will be to find those homeruns that boost your DFS scores and have you leapfrogging leaderboard spots in bunches.  We will focus solely on power numbers for both bats and pitchers, and we will largely center around the ISO metric indicating raw power.

All numbers cited are produced for VIPs daily inside our MLB Research Station.  We may cross-reference some with Trends tabs, Pitching Hubs, and various other stats, but we largely focus on the hitter’s ISO and the pitcher’s ISO against.  We aim to find strength on weakness, so let’s dive in for today’s quick HR Hunting plays…

#200on200 MLB Picks for May 20

*Manny Banuelos* has only 143 total batters faced, but over that small sample, he gives a .318 ISO against Lefties and a .217 against Righties putting all of Houston in a green light HR situation. Looking at who has the pop on HOU – Bregman, Springer, Chirinos, and Tyler White all carry over a .200 ISO of their own (barring injuries and making the starting lineup, of course). Banuelos also carries a low DFSA Grade, a high WScore, and a 4.92 SIERA to go with a pretty juicy 2.90 HR/9……a great spot for HOU bats.  For more on WScore or DFSA Grade, inquire with our coaches inside our coaching rooms.

(Possible scratch – check the IL for Banuelos who was placed on the 10day for left shoulder issues.  However, you can see the spot HOU would have been in.  We need to re-evaluate the spot-starter today and will update in our coaching forums for our VIPs.)

*Wilmer Font* has another small sample of only 303 batters faced, but in that time, he has given up some juicy situations as well. .301 ISO vs LHB and .247 vs RHB start us off licking our chops. 2.4 HR/9 is great to see, and 2nd highest on the slate to Banuelos. High WScore, and higher FB% at 44% indicating balls will get into the air here. Soto, Rendon, Robles, and an outside shoutout to Brian Dozier become your HR targets today.

*Edwin Jackson* gives up a .257 ISO to RHB….putting BOS in a solid spot with bats like: JD Martinez and his .300 ISO vs Righties and Mookie Betts. Solid lefties are in this lineup, but the “power on power” matchup only includes RHB being Jackson’s ISO to lefties is well under .200.

If you want to target *Brad Peacock*, you do so with left handed bats. Moncada and Palka might make contrarian 1offs. Yonder Alonso just misses the grade at .197 ISO.

*Andrew Suarez* makes HR Hunting fun by pointing us to ATL tonight and their righties….. Acuna has sick numbers of .312 ISO, Riley has a very small sample size but has hit left handed pitching well early, Ozzie Albies hits the radar, and Charlie Culberson should be considered for value if he draws the start.

And, to round out our HR Hunting, let’s peek at lefties vs *Jake Arrieta* and his .204 ISO allowed to handedness. Rizzo and Schwarber smash lefties with .231 and .256 ISOs, respectively, putting them in a solid spot to produce points from a mini-stack tonight.

*This #200on200 thing is just one parameter in which you might look through the RS for when choosing thunder bats*.  When you find one of your own, feel free to tweet me @Choppodong or @dfsarmy on Twitter, and let’s have some fun with this metric!

Obviously, there are many other MLB coaching notes, methodologies, and processes to evaluate. But, ISO given up by a pitcher to the power ISO of a bat just makes logical sense and is here to point out great matchups………..not predict results. In conjunction with other factors, though, you can really find some 5-star matchups tonight and put yourself in a great position to accumulate some points in bunches. Try it tonight.

(One way to crosscheck this number is to look at L7 woba (in Trends tab of our Research Station) and see who is also hitting well recently. I would be less excited about some great #200on200 guy hitting .150 woba over the last week than if I found some guy hitting a .500 and tearing the cover off the ball when he finds this kind of matchup tonight.)

Until next time, I’ll see you inside our coaching rooms at DFS Army!
