Donuts to Dollars

The modus operandi of the majority of my Daily Fantasy MLB articles, videos, and podcasts is to deliver compelling evidence through analytics, trends, and useful data as to why a player or team is an ideal target to invest in on FanDuel or DraftKings. The GPP/MME playbook is more or less a foundation to build upon for your tournament strategy and mass-multi entry (MME) adventures. I personally am a full-time MME player across all major platforms each night. The strategy I have laid out for you is where I personally am with how I plan on attacking the slate.

If you want a more personal look into who I am before you buy into my analysis, hit me up on Twitter  @DFSnDONUTS and you can also find me on YouTube | Twitch  | iTunes with supplemental commentary and teaching. You’ll really find me in our VIP coaching forums inside coaching and detailing plays and strategic concepts from contest selection to lineup construction across all our main sports.  If you are looking for it, we cover it!  Follow me, watch me, interact with me, I welcome it all.

I had myself a solid last three days and I am pretty excited at this week’s MLB schedule for each slate. Join up as soon as you can and give us a try. MLB Pitching Pool for MME

Julio Teheran faces off against the Padres who I have picked on multiple times in the last couple weeks with right-handed pitchers. We watched Soroka carve them up yesterday and I think Teheran has that opportunity today as well. He has 26 K’s in 27 IP this season and the Padres strike out 26.7% of the time and have a team wOBA of just .288 this season. Teheran is volatile but that is what makes me love him for MME.

Gerrit Cole got back on track last game againt the Indians, racking up 10 K’s in 7 IP. The Twins offense was scorching hot until they ran into Justin Verlander on Monday. Tuesday gets no easier for them and Cole has the highest SO/9 rate over the last year with a massive 12.375 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched. He also gives up just 0.995 HR/9 and has a 1.087 WHIP. He’s elite and his price tag is affordable at just $10,300 on FanDuel and $10,200 on DraftKings.

Trevor Bauer has thrown over 108 pitches in all five starts this season. He has 35 Ks in 34.1 IP and has scored 20.00 or more DraftKings points in all but one start. He has a massive floor and ceiling combination and gives up just 0.55 HR/9 (which is the lowest on the entire slate) and faces a team with little to no power in the Miami Marlins. I think nobody can match his combination of talent, form, and matchup on this slate and he’s an elite arm on DraftKings. I will still have him in my pool on FanDuel and FantasyDraft as well.

Vince Velasquez has been in the zone the last three starts against the Marlins, Rockies, and Mets. While that is not necessarily murders row for opposing offensive teams, he does have another soft opponent in the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled against RHP for a few years and Vince has dialed it up a notch in the velocity department in the last three starts (up .7 MPH). He has scored 16.50, 19.95, and 23.05 DraftKings points in the last three. His ceiling is slightly capped due to talent but the matchup is prime.

Griffin Canning gets to face the Toronto Blue Jays in his first MLB start. He has been an absolute STUD in the Minor Leagues and I have high confidence in him against the Blue Jays. His Minor league career has been filled with control and strike outs and he’s pretty cheap on FanDuel, too.

Single Entry GPP Pitchers

The rookie, Griffin Canning, is my favorite single entry pitcher due to the lack of knowledge of who he is. Canning was a second round draft pick and a high prospect for the Angels. He’s a -148 favorite and the Jays have just a 4.1 implied run total (IRT). He likely will be single-digit ownership and is in an exceptional spot. The youngster is dripping with talent and potential and I am hoping he can win us the slate.

In single entry tournaments where people like to play their cash lineups or play very safe lineups, I want to target a pitcher with a bit more volatility or some downside. Currently, we are on a heater, with 5 of the 6 pitchers I nominated in this part of the article finishing as a top 3 overall score. Let’s hope the streak continues!

Specific Daily Fantasy MLB Stacks and Teams to Target for Stacking

When I select my stacks I like to run through the trending tab, batter matchups tab, top-10 lists for a bunch of different stats, and the top rated players within the Research Station. I set the FanDuel stacks to 4-3 and the DraftKings stacks to 5-2 in the DFS Army optimizer.

After I have read through the Research Station, I like to give the full-slate MLB breakdown a quick read to see if there is anything that stands out or that I have missed at this point. Then I create my stack ranges for the randomized stack structure so that my personal bias doesn’t ruin all my hard work!

Tier 1 Stacks

These are the teams I want to stack with my highest exposure. Whether you decide to use the controlled stacks (example below) or the randomized stack exposure (as I do, the example provided), I’ll have my highest percentage on the Tier 1 teams).

Texas Rangers (40-60%)

The Rangers have a 5.7 IRT which is the highest on the slate. They have a bunch of strong lefties against a RHP that struggles against them. While Lyles is a decent pitcher, the Rangers can get hot in a hurry and pour on the home runs. It’s going to be warm and humid as well and I love the left-handed hitters here.

Pittsburgh Pirates (30-40%)

Adrian Sampson has not looked good in the Majors whenever he has had a shot over the last three years. In just 49 IP since 2016 in June, he has given up 12 HRs and 26 ERs in just 49 IP. Yikes! The Pirates are a volatile offense and can sink your lineups, however, the upside here is strong and Vegas projects this game to be high-scoring with hitters having little trouble of succeeding. I agree with them, too.

Boston Red Sox (40-60%)

I called it yesterday that I had been seeing signs of a few of the bats waking up and had them as a heavy stack against Frankie Montas on Monday. They get to face off against Aaron Brooks and his 40% fly ball rate and 1.82 HR/9 rate. Boston has a great shot at getting to the Athletics bullpen early and that’s a good thing considering they’re already depleted after yesterday’s 9 run beat down.

Here at DFS Army, we win……and we win a lot.  From smaller budgets and cash games to bigger whales swinging for the 6-figure fences, we’ve guided every type and every experience level for going on 4 seasons now.  Our members rave about the responsiveness and interaction between coaches and players and we actually form friendships that span sports.  There is no community more invested in your success, nor a community that takes greater pride in your wins and sweats as we watch and root for you into the wee hours of mornings.  Don’t believe me?  See our Wall of Wins and just scroll through page after page and sport after sport.

Tier 2 Stacks

These are the teams I am generally using to hedge my pitcher investment and/or don’t have a clear read on what might happen but understand extreme outcomes are possible.

Philadelphia Phillies (20-30%)

Tyson Ross can’t strike anybody out and for the Phillies, that’s a good thing. They have a lot of power and I think they have massive breakout potential against the Tigers bullpen if they get after Ross really early in the ball game.

Chicago Cubs (20-30%)

Felix Hernandez is in trouble against the Chicago Cubs. He gives up 1.456 HR/9 and has a 1.402 WHIP over the last year. The Cubs have some hitters that are warming up, too. I like both sides of the plate in this one and think the Cubbies could surprise in MME in a big way due to the upside of a few of these hitters that should remain low-owned.

Cincinnati Reds (20-30%)

Jason Vargas has not looked good this year and has a 1.423 WHIP and 1.655 HR/9 rate over the last year. He has given up a 50% hard hit rate and a 97 MPH exit velocity over his last couple of starts, too. The Reds players are cheap which means the DFS optimizer will likely stack Reds with the Red Sox bats and Gerrit Cole or another high priced arm. It’s affordable and leaves a ton of wiggle room for massive amounts of upside.

Any remaining exposure percentage that is leftover I am going to allow the optimizer to fill in at random. Baseball is incredibly volatile and hard to predict. While we can project outcomes, predicting them is inherently a losing battle. Allowing the DS to plug in stacks embraces the random factor that MLB DFS has to offer.

Or if you want to have controlled stacks and select the specific players you want to be used and in what type of stacks then you can used the controlled hitter stack setting. This is just an example and I randomly clicked through quickly and was able to pump out 50 lineups in a flash. I would also make sure the stack percentage was at 100% on each side for a real optimized CSV file.

Domination Station DFS Optimizer for GPP’s and Mass-Multi Entering (MME)

This is how I personally use the DFS Army Domination Station optimizer.

  1. Cut all pitchers out of my player pool
    1. Add in the pitchers I want to target one by one (and any extra ones I do add late in the day before lock get a 5-10% exposure cap so that my late day finds don’t derail all my early morning research)
  2. Identify all teams I want to stack
    1. If using controlled stacks then create my player pool of hitters
    2. If using the randomized stacks (which I do) then I begin to create percentages for all my favorite teams to target adding up to 160-180%
    3. Leave 20-40% stack exposure to allow the optimizer to fill in some random optimized stacks according to your pitcher pool to have some unbiased lineups
  3. Prepare my 150 entry settings
    1. 3 uniques
    2. optimal mode
    3. DFS Army points
    4. Make sure allow opposing pitchers is unchecked
    5. Maximum exposure cap of 60-80% if not feeling confident and 80-100% if you are comfortable with winning a ton or losing your entire investment on the slate. This is entirely up to you and whatever you are comfortable with.
    6. Set random stack setting to 4-3 for FanDuel and 5-2 for DraftKings
