I am mostly a Fanduel player, so the content in my articles will be for geared mainly towards Fanduel. However, I will include pricing from all both sites (Fanduel and Draftkings) Some plays may be better off for the two pitcher sites and I will mention that when needed about a pitcher.

Main Slate

Luis Severino (10.6k FD) (11.3k DK) vs DET

I do hate writing up the Yankees so often, but their pitchers SHOULD have great games against these teams they are playing against. Severino has been worse lately, but his last start he started to look better and struck out 8 Orioles in 5.2 innings. I hate that he isn’t going deep into games right now, but last time he faced the Tigers, he destroyed them. He went 8 innings, striking out 10 hitters, good for 61/37 FD/DK points. The Tigers have been surprisingly good lately, but Severino should be able to mow them down. He’s allowed a .311 xwOBA this season and just an 87.6 average exit velocity. In August, he has been giving up a lot of hits on his fastball, but hitters aren’t really hitting his slider or changeup. In fact, against his slider and change hitters have a 41% strikeout rate, but against his fastball he has just a 9.3% strikeout rate. Watching some of his starts, he has had some issues locating the fastball and leaving them up, which is causing them to be hit. If he can keep the fastball down he won’t get burned as much. This matchup is a good one for him to keep the trend going in the right direction.

In just 44 at-bats, they do have only a .227 average against him striking out 15 times, most of their hitters have at least 2 strikeouts against him. With the pricing over 11k on draftkings, I don’t think I’m going to go there, but with FD being a tad cheaper, I think he’s a better play over there.

Zack Wheeler (10k FD) (10.6k DK) @ SF

I will keep picking on the Giants as long as they are bad against nearly every pitcher that is being thrown at them. Wheeler has simply been amazing this season for the Mets and like I’ve said before, he’s even doing better than Syndergaard. Wheeler just keeps it rolling this year and he’s my favorite pitcher on this slate so far and I hope he goes a bit overlooked. Aside from his August 15th start @ Baltimore, he has rolled off 7 starts of 40 or more fanduel points. He can be expected to go 7 innings nearly every start and strike out some hitters. His strikeouts are a bit sporadic, but he has shown 7+ strikeout upside. This Giants team just lost Andrew McCutchen last night which will make their lineup even weaker than it already is. In their L14 vs RHP, they have the 3rd highest strikeout rate at 25.3% and are hitting under .200, which is the worst in the MLB. They also have just a .306 xwOBA in their L14 too. Wheeler comes into this game with a decent 23.6% strikeout rate and rarely allows home runs (0.70 HR/9). The thing I love about him is his hard-hit rate. Hitters are only getting 26% hard contact against Wheeler, add in that the Giants are in the bottom 10 in average exit velocity over the last 2 weeks against RHP makes me like him even more. He was never a big name for people, but I love this spot for him and think he could have the best game tonight.

Zack Greinke (10.2k FD) (11k DK) @ LAD

Greinke has had two starts against the Dodgers this season and one was bad and one was really good. Too bad the really good one was at home but the Dodgers have not been all that amazing lately. Against righties, they have they have the 7th highest strikeout rate at 23.3% but the rest of the advanced categories that I look at are rather average. They have a wOBA at .277 and xwOBA at .275 over their L14 vs RHP too. Zack has been a bit better of late going 6+ innings in each of his last 8 starts. His strikeouts have been pretty consistent this season and we can expect a good game from him tonight. There are a few guys with decent BvP against Greinke, but they struggled last time against them. He has allowed a .296 xwOBA this season and comes into this game with a 25.3% strikeout rate and just 5% walk rate. I think Greinke will be a bit lower owned given the matchup and being on the road. He allows just about a baserunner per inning, but has a very good 3.43 SIERA this season, getting a 44.4% ground ball rate. Despite him being better at home this season, he still has had some very good road starts. Greinke has been almost lights out in the second have with a 2.30 ERA over 47 innings, striking out 47 hitters and walking just 11. He definitely has improved in the second half and I expect it to continue.
