Hello everyone, and welcome back to the MLB cash academy at the DFS Army! I go by nillyJay in the DFS Army where I coach and contribute content for MLB, NASCAR, and all things cash games related (such as proper bankroll management and cash ladders).  You can find me on Twitter or in our Slack channels @nillyJay.

Hey look, another $10,000 winner from the DFS Army yesterday.  I guess our hot streak from July just kept going into August!

The basics

Please refer to the original article here if you’re unfamiliar with any of the stats or terminology used in the notes below.  NEW! If you want to read more about my carnage rating system, you can do so here.

Cash players – 8/3/2018

Patrick Corbin (ARI P: $9,800 FD | $10,400 DK) – We have several big names on the mound today, but most of them are in somewhat questionable spots.  Corbin is not one of them, as he finds himself in a good matchup with the Giants.  His -189 moneyline and 3.54 implied runs are currently the best on the slate, and his 3.73 carnage rating / .289 wOBA are among the best as well.  He’s averaged 6.4 strikeouts over his last five games, and he’s had good outings each of the four times he’s faced the Giants this season.

Vince Velasquez (PHI P: $8,100 FD | $8,000 DK) – Velasquez finds himself in a good matchup today and looks to be a very solid mid-ranged option.  He has a very nice 3.27 carnage rating along with a combined wOBA of .228, and outside of Anderson, nobody on the Marlins is running very hot against righties.  His -170 moneyline and 3.68 implied runs from Vegas look pretty good, too.  He faced this team back in April and scored 43 FD / 24.5 DK, and I think he has a good chance to get close to that again today.

Daniel Murphy (WAS 1B/2B: $3,300 FD | $4,300 DK) – The Nationals are starting to click and Murphy’s consistency has been a big part of it.  He’s had at least one hit in 8 of his last 10 games and is hitting .494 wOBA / .348 ISO against righties in that same span.  He faces the soft DeSclafani who is giving up a whopping .511 wOBA and .525 ISO to lefties over his last 5 starts.  He also has a 6.67 carnage rating, and you could pair up pretty much any other lefty here for a two-man cash stack.

Adam Frazier (PIT OF/2B: $2,200 FD | $3,800 DK) – Another team that has a great matchup for their lefties, the Pirates face Gant who is allowing .409 wOBA and .324 ISO to them and is only striking out 15.2% of his batters.  Leading the charge is Frazier, who is hitting .521 wOBA and .267 ISO against righties while only striking out 16.67% of the time over the last couple of weeks.

Like what you see here, but wish you could quickly find more batters in good spots like these ones are?  I upload a list of every batter that meets the requirements I’m looking for, every single day, and today’s list has a 50 batters on it.  Everybody gets 5 here, but our VIPs get the rest!  That list also has a breakdown of every tier for the DraftKings Tiers slates.

Yan Gomes (CLE C: $2,400 FD | $3,500 DK) – Cleveland is in a great spot as well, as they face Barria and his 6.17 carnage rating.  He’s allowing .458 wOBA and .341 ISO to righties while Gomes is hitting .360 wOBA (.402 xwOBA) and .231 ISO against right-handed pitchers.  I love players that do well facing their own hand, and this is a great way to get some cheap exposure to this offense.

Victor Martinez (DET C/1B: $2,300 FD | $3,100 DK) – The veteran is as streaky as they come, so we may as well take advantage of his cheap salary when he’s in the middle of one of his hot streaks.  He’s had 11 hits in his last 10 games and is hitting .761 wOBA / .600 ISO against lefties with a super low 2.78% strikeout rate.  Anderson is allowing .390 wOBA and .230 ISO to the right side of the plate and isn’t striking out many batters (12.4%).  I wouldn’t stack the Tigers in cash games, but for you tournament players, there are a few interesting plays to be found here.

Guillermo Heredia (SEA OF: 1B: $2,100 FD | $3,000 DK) – As I was finishing up this article I realized I hadn’t included any outfielders, so it’s bonus time!  You know I like a good value player, and Heredia certainly fits the bill.  He’s hitting for .488 wOBA and .300 ISO against lefties with a 7.69% strikeout rate, while Borucki is allowing .420 xwOBA to righties.  He tends to hit deep in the order, but he doesn’t have to do much to pay off his salary.

And that’s going to do it for today!  Be sure to check out the rest of our MLB content today as well as my NASCAR Xfinity preview for the race tomorrow.  We have another big MMA card coming up this weekend too, so be sure to check out some of our content for that as it comes out, too.

Also keep in mind that NFL season is fast approaching, and with that comes an increase in our monthly rates.  Right now is a great time to get on board so you don’t have to pay the higher prices later, but remember to use promo code NILLY to get that 10% discount for the life of your active membership.  Good luck today!
