Just another day at the grind for these two members:

The basics

Please refer to the original article here if you’re unfamiliar with any of the stats or terminology used in the notes below.  NEW! If you want to read more about my carnage rating system, you can do so here.

Yesterday’s results

It was a bit of a quiet night, but Max and our box-checker Wieters carried the bulk of the weight.

Cash players – 8/18/2018

Rich Hill (LAD P: $8,800 FD | $9,300 DK) – Pitching is kind of ugly tonight (at least for cash games), but Hill looks to be a solid Hoption.  He has a solid 3.72 carnage rating today, along with a combined wOBA of .261 and decent Vegas support (-137 moneyline and 3.94 implied runs).  Outside of Cano, who hasn’t done a lot since his return, none of the other Mariners have had any real success against him (nor have they seen him yet this year).  Hill has shown plenty of consistency recently and hasn’t allowed more than 2 earned runs in his last six starts (those weren’t exactly easy opponents, either), and looks to be about as safe of an option as we have today.

Rene Rivera (LAA C: $2,400 FD | $3,000 DK) – As usual, let’s start things off with a decent punt.  It’s a small sample size, but Rivera has looked good since his return and faces Perez, who is somebody we always enjoy targeting.  Perez is allowing .399 wOBA to righties and carries a hefty 7.30 carnage rating today, along with 5.40 implied runs for the Angels.  It won’t take much for Rivera to pay off his salary, and he shouldn’t have an overly difficult time doing it today.

Paul Goldschmidt (ARI 1B: $4,600 FD | $5,300 DK) – Another box-checker, Goldy has been running hot lately and gets a familiar matchup today.  He’s hitting .515 wOBA and .500 ISO against lefties while Richard is allowing .345 ISO and .222 ISO to righties.  The strikeout rates are low on both sides (12.50% and 8.80%), and Goldy is 7 for 22 with one home run against him.  We don’t have any top-dollar pitchers to pay up for today, so we might as well splurge on some bats!

Like what you see here, but wish you could quickly find more batters in good spots like these ones are? I upload a list of every batter that meets the requirements I’m looking for, every single day, and today’s list has 27 batters on it.  Everybody gets a few here, but our VIPs get the rest!  That list also has a breakdown of the Tiers and QuickPick slates.

Anthony Rendon (WAS 3B: $4,000 FD | $4,600 DK) – Rendon has been a model of consistency lately, with 13 hits in his last 8 games.  He’s hitting .452 wOBA off of lefties and is only striking out 8.93% of the time, while Chen is allowing .320 wOBA and .222 ISO to righties.  Chen has been good at home this season but has been incredibly bad on the road, and his 6.46 carnage rating is the second worst on the slate.  This looks to be a great matchup for Rendon to get another big hit or two.

Joe Panik (SFG 2B: $2,200 FD | $3,700 DK) – When teams face Harvey they tend to bring the big bats, and Panik will certainly be doing that today.  Harvey is allowing .422 wOBA and .381 ISO to lefties and is only striking out 17.20% of his batters.  Panik already has one home run off of Harvey in only 3 at-bats, and he’ll have several chances at another one today since he’s batting second.  He’s also only striking out 13.33% of the time which adds to his already solid floor today.

Victor Martinez (DET C/1B: $2,500 FD | $3,300 DK) – You know I love my value plays, so let’s end today’s list with another one.  Victor has 14 hits in his last 10 games and is hitting .466 wOBA and .174 ISO off of righties.  Stewart has only pitched in one game this year and didn’t look very good; he allowed 8 hits, 3 earned runs, and .397 xwOBA to the left side of the plate in four innings against these Tigers.

And that’s going to do it for today!  Be sure to check out the rest of our MLB content, and for my fellow DFS Army members, check out my VIP-only NASCAR article for today’s race that breaks down lineup construction/correlation, cash plays, GPP pivots, and more.  I enjoy doing these free articles, but the best stuff is saved for our members.  If you want to join in the fun, you know what to do!  Just be sure to use promo code NILLY to get 10% off your monthly rates.  Until then, good luck today!
