Hello everyone, and welcome back to the MLB cash academy at the DFS Army! I go by nillyJay in the DFS Army where I coach and contribute content for MLB, NASCAR, and all things cash games related (such as proper bankroll management and cash ladders). You can find me on Twitter or in our Slack channels @nillyJay.
The purpose of these articles is to show an easy way to identify players to use MLB cash game lineups. While I do provide some player names, the idea is to show what I’m looking for so that you can use some of that same thinking to help aid your research for building lineups.
The basics
Please refer to the original article here if you’re unfamiliar with any of the stats or terminology used in the notes below.

Would have liked more from the expensive bats, but not terrible I suppose. Great outings from our pitchers though!
Cash players – 7/7/2018
We have some really weird slates today that are staggered all over the place. Because of this, and because I don’t recommend doing the all-day slates for cash, I’m going to focus on the nine games on the early (4:05 PM) slates.
James Paxton (SEA P: $10,300 FD | $12,500 DK) – There are several top-dollar arms today, and you could make a case for any of them, but I’ll start today’s article off with Paxton. He’s got the lowest carnage rating at 2.43 and the Rockies have very little experience against him. He’s been very consistent (where Kluber hasn’t been lately) and has a slightly better park for pitchers than Severino does today, so those act as a tie-breaker for me in cash.
Charlie Morton (HOU P: $10,800 FD | $12,200 DK) – Morton is the other top option I like today. He has the best all-around stats on the slate; 3.31 carnage rating, .236 combined wOBA, a 577 KSCORE, and the most Vegas love (-284 moneyline / 2.89 implied runs). The other top arms all face teams that aren’t striking out all that much, but the White Sox have a strikeout rate of 25.36% over the last week (which is among the highest of this slate). He also has the same BvP advantage that Paxton has. Morton has pitched very well lately and I see that continuing today.
Colin Moran (PIT 3B: $2,300 FD | $3,200 DK) – I love value, so let’s kick off our batters with a solid budget option. Moran has been hitting for .476 wOBA and .375 ISO against righties, while Arrieta has been getting hit for .459 wOBA and .346 ISO by lefties over his last 5 starts. He also hasn’t had a single strikeout in his last five games, which is very impressive. While it’s true he’s had his share of games without any fantasy production, he’s putting the ball in play plenty. For his price, that’s all we can really ask for.
Nick Hundley (SFG C: $2,200 FD | $3,400 DK) – Another solid value option, Hundley enters today’s matchup hitting .490 wOBA against righties while Martinez has been giving up .431 wOBA and .250 ISO to right-handed batters. He’s been producing well when he draws the start, which he does today, so I like him to easily make value against the struggling Martinez.
Nick Markakis (ATL OF: $3,600 FD | $4,600 DK) – There are several batters in good spots on the Braves, but Markakis offers the best stat/dollar ratio, so here we are. His .435 wOBA and .308 ISO against righties are both very nice, and Wilkerson’s .377 wOBA is a good place to attack. He’s also only striking out 12.9% of the time, and I like him for some double-digit fantasy scoring today. Albies, Inciarte, or Camargo all make good options to take with him as a two-man cash stack.
Rhys Hoskins (PHI OF: $3,900 FD | $4,900 DK) – Hoskins cooled off for a game but looks to be heating right back up, and his matchup today is a good one to keep that going. He brings a .364 wOBA and .250 ISO against righties to face Taillon and his .402 wOBA / .244 ISO to righties. They don’t have the highest implied total on the board, but I expect Hoskins to be involved in whatever this offense produces today. Taillon has been giving up plenty of hits and walks, so I expect there to be plenty of noise today (from both teams, really).
