nillyJay's MLB Cash Academy for Fanduel and Draftkings DFS 7/1/2018

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the MLB cash academy!  I go by nillyJay in the DFS Army where I coach and contribute content for MLB, NASCAR, and all things cash games related (such as proper bankroll management and cash ladders).  You can find me on Twitter or in our Slack channels @nillyJay.

The purpose of these articles is to show an easy way to identify players to use MLB cash game lineups.  While I do provide some player names, the idea is to show what I’m looking for so that you can use some of that same thinking to help aid your research for building lineups.

The basics

Please refer to the original article here if you’re unfamiliar with any of the stats or terminology used in the notes below.

Yesterday’s results

Chris Sale: 64 FD | 39.95 DK
Trevor Wiliams: 14 FD | 6.9 DK
Gorkys Hernandez: 6 FD | 6 DK
Leury Garcia: 0 FD | 0 DK
Kurt Suzuki: 6 FD | 5 DK
Josh Bell: 6 FD | 5 DK

A couple letdowns, but otherwise decent production from the value batters that would have afforded some bigger bats.  Pick’Em smashed once again though!

Cash players – 7/1/2018

J.A. Happ (TOR P: $9,400 FD | $10,200 DK) – We don’t have a Chris Sale today, but Happ’s Vegas love isn’t that far off.  They have him at an overwhelming -202 moneyline and Detroit has a pretty low 3.52 implied run total.  Happ also has one of the best carnage ratings today at 3.19, as well as a very respectable combined wOBA of .260.

Freddy Peralta (MIL P: $8,500 FD | $10,100 DK) – If you want to look elsewhere, Peralta is a great choice.  He has the lowest carnage rating today at 1.63 and has an extremely low combined wOBA of .084.  He also has by far the highest recent strikeout rate at a whopping 38.6%.  His Vegas love isn’t quite as nice as Happ’s, but he has nicer stats.  You just have to decide which is more important to you!

Joe Mauer (MIN 1B: $2,600 FD | $3,400 DK) – Not only has Mauer seen Lester plenty (8 for 24 with 3 XBH, only 3 strikeouts), but he’s starting to heat up.  He’s got a super low 4.35% strikeout rate over the last week, as well as .460 wOBA and .364 ISO against lefties.  Lester is getting smacked around all over the place, giving up .501 wOBA and .429 ISO to lefties over his last 5 starts.  He’s also only striking out 16.5% of the batters he’s facing and carries a fairly high 6.13 carnage rating today.  All signs point to Mauer having a solid day.

Wilmer Flores (NYM 1B/3B: $3,100 FD | $3,600 DK) – Another fine value option, Flores carries a .410 wOBA and .389 ISO into today’s matchup against Straily who is always prone to getting knocked around.  His .477 wOBA and .387 ISO righties over his last five starts look nice to attack, and Flores just isn’t striking out right now (also 4.35% just like Mauer).  He looks to be in a spot to have a solid day for us, too.

Daniel Murphy (WAS 1B: $2,700 FD | $4,400 DK) -Another guy with decent BvP, Murphy is 6 for 24 against Arietta with a home run.  That’s fine and all, but the fact that he hasn’t struck out a single time in over a week is pretty impressive.  That goes along with a solid .364 wOBA, which matches up well against Arrieta’s recent .429 wOBA and .333 ISO against righties.  Murphy has had at least one hit in 5 of his last 6 games, and he’ll look to keep that going today.

Juan Soto (WAS OF: $3,800 FD | $4,400 DK) – If you want some power, Soto is your guy.  He’s been consistent and hot since his debut, and I don’t see that stopping today.  He is smashing righties to the tune of .544 wOBA and .438 ISO lately and gets the same matchup against Arrieta that Murphy gets.  He’s a little expensive, but when we get power and consistency from the same guy, he’s worth paying up for.

That’s going to do it for today!  The main slate starts fairly soon, and I apologize for getting this out so late today, but that’s how work goes sometimes.  DFS Army members, be sure to join us for the NASCAR race today in Chicagoland, and stay tuned for the rest of our content coming out today for WNBA and soccer.  And of course, if you’re thinking it’s time to join up with us, be sure to use promo code NILLY to get that 10% discount.  Good luck today!
