This article focuses primarily on 3-Man snake draft strategy. Reason being is that you can easily apply this information to H2H as well as widen up to 4-Man contests, which is the average size of the daily GPPs. I’m going to break down what I saw in 20-30 drafts today and how we can exploit our opponents using our tools over on DFS Army.

Quick Trends (20 game sample)

  • It was a fight today between Judge and Kluber to go as your overall #1 drafted player. Split right down the middle, there’s merit for either player: Offense is very deep today with a lot of great games to pick from and there is enough serviceable pitchers to choose from. I split my exposure between the two honestly.
  • Rounding out your first picks included Ramierez, Scherzer, and Arenado
  • Chalk of the night: Judge, Kluber, Scherzer, Ramierez, Arenado, Lindor, Brantley, McCutchen, Belt, and Votto. 66.7% of the field today was chalk which is pedestrian compared to some nights we had in June. While this paints a narrow picture of players, it’s actually even more laser focused that you think. Hitting came from six offenses in total in 95% of drafts today.

Draft Projections & Rankings

The default draft rankings by position in Draft for their top positions. While most of these would be solid plays, they are vastly different than our projections and grades we developed in house at DFS Army where take into account many different metrics that these do not. Combining our brand new Starting Lineups Page, Domination Station, Articles, and research station, you can quickly see where some players in absolute smash spots should be drafted higher than what’s on this list.

Strategy

  • Hitters and pitchers for days. Today’s best strategy is to counter draft against your opponents. If they grab 2 IF, go OF. If they don’t grab a pitcher, grab one. If they’re grabbing CLE bats, grab NYY. There are premier players available across more than the 12 roster spots for bats tonight.
  • A case for the undrafted in field bat: Stanton

  • with 53% hard hitting contact over the last 7 and 57% over the last 14, he’s hitting the ball as hard as possible…. right into the gloves of defenders. This is basically saying he’s landing on the wrong side of variance lately. He could be in a spot to know the cover off the ball tonight.

I’ll be posting my personal recommendations and comparisons to our projections in our Premium Slack services before lock.
