This article focuses primarily on 3-Man snake draft strategy. Reason being is that you can easily apply this information to H2H as well as widen up to 4-Man contests, which is the average size of the daily GPPs. I’m going to break down what I saw in 20-30 drafts today and how we can exploit our opponents using our tools over on DFS Army.

Quick Trends (20 game sample)

  • First pick today was a little more balanced than usual with Trout, Betts, and Servino grabbing equal shares.
  • Rounding out your first picks was Ramierez, DeGrom, and Martinez
  • Chalk: Trout, Betts, Servino, DeGrom, Ramierez, Martinez, Carpenter, Lindor, Benintendi, Rosario, and Votto. Our season average of 73% chalk is in play here meaning there is some play in roster construction tonight.

Draft Projections & Rankings

The default draft rankings by position in Draft for their top positions. While most of these would be solid plays, they are vastly different than our projections and grades we developed in house at DFS Army where take into account many different metrics that these do not. Combining our brand new Starting Lineups Page, Domination Station, Articles, and research station, you can quickly see where some players in absolute smash spots should be drafted higher than what’s on this list.

Strategy

  • Pitching: While many went after pitching first, I think you can wait to late or last. Same advice I gave yesterday in Slack waiting on pitching while everyone else grabbed Sale first overall. How did that end up?
    • Sale: 19 pts
    • Scherzer 15 pts
    • Archer 16 pts
  • Pitching is mostly flat when there are 3+ studs on a given night. Like last night. Like tonight. Do yourself a favor and grab a high end bat instead of an elite pitching option in the first round.  Yes, Sale scored 3-4 more points than the other two, but that meant you passed on Trout (28 pts), Marte (17 pts),  Ramierez 9 pts), or Harper (28 pts) to get him. In other words, you probably lost last night.
  • Hitting: Since DH is used often on Draft pulling outfielders into infield allocations, this is another night where there are more than enough Tier 1 infield options. I would focus on filling outfield before infield, going 1x OF then 1x IF for picking rotation.
  • Top overlooked hitters: Both should have a safe floor tonight
    • Infield: Adrian Beltre Sporting a .463 wOBA and .444 ISO tonight.
    • Outfield: Justin Upton coming in at a .489 wOBA and .333 ISO
