This article focuses primarily on 3-Man snake draft strategy. Reason being is that you can easily apply this information to H2H as well as widen up to 4-Man contests, which is the average size of the daily GPPs. I’m going to break down what I saw in 20-30 drafts today and how we can exploit our opponents using our tools over on DFS Army.
Quick Trends (20 game sample)
- Two pitchers are going in the first round. Cole and Sale like clockwork at a staggering 90% of the time. If you’re picking in the wheel, you have a lot of options to go for and you can secure solid #1 picks for infield and outfield.
- Your east coast bombers are going at the top of the snakes as well. It’s a dead heat between Judge & Stanton with BOS bats falling closely behind. Surprisingly, a lot of players in smash spots are being largely ignored.
- Some recency bias from yesterday’s games is popping up with players that gave you a donut seemingly disappeared and others that don’t normally make it into a 3 man are being drafted in the guts.
- 100% list include: Stanton, Judge, Betts, Martinez, Trout, Cole, Sale, and Machado. In 20 drafts, 8 players were drafted every time. With only 15 players being picked in total, that’s over half being made up of the same guys.
Draft Projections & Rankings

Here’s the default draft rankings by position in Draft for their top positions. While most of these would be solid plays, they are vastly different than our projections and grades we developed in house at DFS Army where take into account many different metrics that these do not. Combining our brand new Starting Lineups Page, Domination Station, Articles, and research station, you can quickly see where some players in absolute smash spots should be drafted higher than what’s on this list.

Strategy
- I don’t think you need to grab a pitcher in the first round. On the same page, there are more options than usual to go with tonight at infield and outfield. Enough so that I’m diversifying more on this slate than I have in weeks with hitters. I feel there’s at least 10 viable hitters in both slots to work with.
- Boston bats are always deadly, don’t get me wrong. However, Tropicana Field is the second worst hitting park in the country. Does it mean that they want go yard? No. Is it more likely that there are different bats in the same or better spots versus low quality pitchers? Yes. I don’t think it’s necessary to grab BOS bats tonight with so many options.
- Speaking of options, here’s some bats that are being ignored: The entire MIL line up, Pham (recency bias), Votto, Springer, Bregman, Rendon, Votto, Polanco, and Correa.
- There are five out of 8 bats we have projected with over a 90 DFS Army grade tonight that are being ignored completely in 3 Mans. We’ll be talking about them in slack tonight. Some are land mines, others are last pick gold. Yesterday’s Justin Turner call in slack didn’t workout too well, but with baseball anything can happen.
