Studs and Stacks: NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel - October 30

NHL Building Blocks for October 30

In this article, we spotlight today’s top NHL DFS studs and stack recommendations, focusing on high-upside players and synergistic line combinations that can elevate your lineups. Whether you’re targeting cash games or GPPs, these picks are designed to maximize value and exposure. Let’s dive into the matchups and identify the key players to target.

SKATERS
Center: Jack Eichel
Eichel has 20 points (seven goals and 13 assists) through 14 games and is riding an 11-game point streak, scoring again in Tuesday’s 4–1 win over Ottawa. New Jersey is a good test, but Vegas is back home after snapping its three-game losing streak. Eichel’s combination of playmaking, shooting and power-play involvement gives him one of the best ceilings on the slate.
Other: Mark Scheifele, Jack Hughes

Winger: Matthew Tkachuk
Four assists. That’s what Tkachuk delivered Tuesday in Florida’s 5–1 win over Winnipeg, including two helpers on the power play. He now has 20 points (four goals and 16 assists) through 13 games, with 11 of those points coming on the man advantage. The goal scoring has been relatively quiet, but the playmaking is more than making up for it. Winnipeg is back on the schedule Friday, and Tkachuk has been consistently involved in Florida’s offense.

Defense: Luke Hughes
Hughes is coming off his best performance of the season, recording a goal and two assists in Tuesday’s 5–1 win over Dallas. He now has six points (4 goals, 2 assists), and he continues to see more than 22 minutes of ice time with a prominent role on the Devils’ top power-play unit. Vegas is a difficult road matchup, but Hughes has the offensive ability and workload to remain an attractive defenseman option.
Other: Seth Jones, Vince Dunn

Goalie: Phillip Grubauer
Grubauer has won three straight starts, but the underlying numbers are less convincing: he has allowed 10 goals on 81 shots over that stretch. He’s 5-1-1 with a 2.93 GAA and .897 save percentage this season, and Wednesday’s 5–4 win over Toronto required him to make only 17 saves on 21 shots. Calgary is next, and the recent wins are encouraging, but on a three-gamer, we need to find a little bit of a different angle sometimes, and the matchup here makes some sense.
Other: Jacob Markstrom, Adin Hill

Value: Trevor Connelly
Connelly has quietly put together a productive start to his NHL career, totaling nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) through 14 games. He’s projected on Vegas’ third line with Tomas Hertl, so the even-strength role isn’t as appealing as the top-six options. Still, he’s shown a scoring touch and gets some exposure to the top power play line in a Vegas offense averaging 3.3 goals over its last 10 games. He’s an interesting salary-saving tournament option against New Jersey.
Other: Arseny Gritsyuk, Lars Eller

STACKS
Full: VGK (Eichel-Stone-Marner)
Eichel and Stone are the foundation here, combining for 36 points through Vegas’ first 14 games. Eichel has 20 points and an 11-game point streak, while Stone leads the team with eight goals and has points in 12 straight games. Marner adds another playmaker with an eight-game point streak of his own (1 goal, 10 assists). He isn’t on the same even-strength line as Eichel and Stone, but all three offer strong offensive and power-play correlation. This is an expensive stack with plenty of multi-point potential against New Jersey.
Other: FLA (Reinhart-M. Tkachuk-B. Tkachuk), SEA (Beniers-Eberle-McMann)

Mini: NJ (Hughes-Bratt)
Hughes and Bratt remain a natural pairing, with both playing important roles in New Jersey’s top offensive group and first power-play unit. Hughes leads the Devils with 14 points, including 10 assists, while Bratt provides another strong playmaker and puck carrier. The matchup against Vegas isn’t especially easy, but New Jersey has averaged 3.7 goals per game over its last 10. This duo offers a way to get exposure to the Devils’ offense without paying for a larger stack.
Other: VGK (Karlsson-Marner), FLA (Lundell-Luostarinen)
