NHL Building Blocks – April 8
We’ve got ten days left in the regular season and ten games on the slate tonight. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – April 8
The Goalie: Jake Oettinger
Oettinger (36-15-4 / 2.45 / .912) and the Stars are at home facing a Vancouver team that’s still mathematically alive for a playoff spot, but they’d need to win every game and then get some help; Dallas still has a shot at the top seed in the West, so a win tonight would help that cause, and he’s one of the best in the league.
The Center: Sidney Crosby
Five goals and three helpers in his last five games and gets a good matchup against a bad Blackhawks team.
The Wing: David Pastrnak
You’d never know the Bruins are in the Eastern basement with how Pasta has been playing, scoring six goals and adding seven helpers during a six-game point streak; even in a tough matchup, he’s got a great floor, shooting over four times a game on average.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Don’t care about the matchup as he’s matchup-proof; he’ll get his.
The Value: Luke Hughes
Has stepped up in Hamilton’s absence; goal and six assists during a little four-game point streak.
The Stack: TOR (Matthews-Marner-Tavares-Nylander)
The Leafs are on the road, but there’s a possibility that these two teams meet in the first round, and I think Toronto will want to make a statement tonight; this quartet could be the most dangerous in the league.
