NHL Building Blocks – January 7
Ten games to attack tonight with a lot of interesting spots to look at. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 7
The Goalie: Adin Hill
One of the best matchups on the slate as the Sharks are 27th in goals scored and Vegas is 5th in goals allowed. Hill (17-6-2 / 2.58 / .904) continues to play very good hockey, and even though the Golden Knights are on the road, they are the biggest favorites (around -250).
The Center: Marco Rossi
Been playing well in Kaprizov’s absence (and he should be out again tonight), scoring three goals and adding six helpers in his last five games and is up to 37 points in 40 games.
The Wing: Brady Tkachuk
Like the spot against a Wings defense that can give up opportunities (as well as an offense that’s been playing better of late). Tkachuk is tied for third in the league in shots with 155 in just 38 games (and he’s averaging just under a point per contest).
The Defenseman: Zach Werenski
45 points in 40 games (not to mention 160 shots on goal) in 26 and a half minutes a night and facing an awful Pittsburgh defense.
The Value: Connor Brown
On L1 with McDavid and RNH; also kills penalties.
The Stack: CBJ (Monahan-Marchenko-Werenski)
Great upside in this trio as Pittsburgh has allowed the most goals of any team in the league this season. Mix in Voronkov (15 goals in 31 games) and Johnson (10 goals in 26 games) as secondary pieces.
