DFS NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel – January 3

NHL Building Blocks – January 3

We’ve got a five-game Friday tonight, and while there are some obvious spots, there are a few places to get contrarian without getting crazy.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – January 3
The Goalie
: Stuart Skinner
Should be the popular choice tonight given the matchup: the Ducks have scored the fewest goals (89 in 36 games) in the league.  Skinner (14-8-3 / 2.81 / .897) has been much better lately, going 6-2-1 in December while allowing just 21 goals in those outings.

The Center: Leon Draisaitl
Leads the league in goals with 27 and has 10 goals and 14 assists during a 12-game point streak.  Oilers host a bad Anaheim team who played last night.  Always a viable pivot from McDavid as well.

The Wing: Sam Reinhart
Tied for fifth in the league in goals with 22 and slightly under pace for a second straight 50-goal campaign.  Florida did play last night, but in a matchup at home against a team that gives up the most goals in the league on the fourth most shots per, I don’t mind him at all.

The Defenseman: Colton Parayko
Plays 24 and a half minutes a night and has 21 points in 39 games while averaging nearly five shots + blocks per game; Ottawa can shoot the puck, so he’ll be needed in both ends of the ice tonight.

The Value: Mackie Samoskevich
Slotting up on PP1 with the big boys and in a very good matchup tonight.

The Stack: MON (Caufield-Suzuki-Laine)
There might be some more high-profile stacks on the slate, but this trio is in just as good a spot as any of them and could go overlooked.  They’ll most likely be cheaper, as well.  20 goals between the first two, and Laine has eight in his 13 games this season.
