NHL Building Blocks – January 25
We’ve got a 10-gamer tonight. This size of slate is perfect as it gives you lots of different options and you don’t have to get too different. Where do we start? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 25
The Goalie: Pyotr Kochetkov
The Canes’ defense continues to be elite (two and a half goals allowed per game on 25 shots per), and with Andersen still needing time to get up to speed, Kochetkov (18-9-2 / 2.47 / .904), who has done a remarkable job all season, gets the nod tonight against an Isles team that’s scored the second fewest goals in the league. Good spot for him and Carolina tonight.
The Center: Auston Matthews
Six goals in his last five games (and 20 in just 34 games on the season). Senators’ defense is decent, but he’s always in play from a volume and upside perspective.
The Wing: Filip Forsberg
Two goals last game and has seven goals and five assists in his last five games; he gets perhaps the worst defense in the league tonight as well.
The Defenseman: Roman Josi
When he’s playing, he’s got about the highest floor of any defenseman (which is always good for DFS), and his ceiling is solid as well with how well he’s been playing (a goal and six assists in his last five games while seeing his usual 26 minutes a night).
The Value: Darren Raddysh
Two goals and four assists in his last five games; Wings’ defense is not that intimidating.
The Stack: NSH (Forsberg-Stamkos-Marchessault-Josi)
Don’t look now, but the Preds’ offense has woken up finally, having scored 13 goals in its past two games (both against a bad San Jose team), and now they get an even worse Duck defense. These four are expensive, so you’ll most likely have to mix and match, but they’re in too good of a spot to pass up (and they’re hot right now as well).
