NHL Building Blocks – January 24
Friday night brings us four games, and each one has something interesting. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 24
The Goalie: Connor Hellebuyck
If he keeps playing like he is (29-7-2 / 2.02 / .927), Hellebuyck is going to move into the Hart conversation if he’s not already there. Utah’s offense does not intimidate, and the Jets’ defense is one of the best in the league. Winnipeg is also at home in this one, and as Utah beat them a few days ago, they’ll want a get-back opportunity tonight as well.
The Center: Mark Scheifele
Perhaps playing the best hockey of his career, Scheifele leads the team in goals with 27 and is on pace for 90+ points on the season.
The Wing: Nikita Kucherov
The league’s third-leading scorer (70 points) is in the middle of a 10-game point streak (five goals and 11 assists during), and he gets the best matchup on the slate tonight.
The Defenseman: Seth Jones
Always has a solid floor as he plays a ton of minutes and can rack up the peripherals, and the entire team will have its hands full with the elite Tampa offense.
The Value: Michael Eysimmont
On L2 with Point and Guentzel; nice cheap stack piece or viable as a one-off.
The Stack: DAL (Robertson-Duchene-Johnston)
Leverage spot here as these three especially have been carrying the offensive load, having each notched seven points a piece over their past five games. Vegas’s defense is no joke, but they are on the second half of a back-t0-back, so I think this is a spot to get a little different from some of the other chalkier stacks.
