NHL Building Blocks – January 23
We’ve got 11 games on this Thursday slate. There are lots of great spots, so let’s see if we can highlight a few that will start you off right. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 23
The Goalie: Igor Shesterkin
Shesty (16-15-2 / 2.78 / .912) has won five of his last six starts while allowing just nine goals during that stretch (including shutouts in both of his most recent outings). He’s going to be fired up as well after the little ruckus last game with Ottawa. Good spot against a Flyers offense that doesn’t intimidate. This recent stretch could be what gets the Rangers to turn around their season.
The Center: Tomas Hertl
Five goals and four assists in his past five games and has been playing his best hockey of the season. Salary is solid as well.
The Wing: Filip Forsberg
Forsberg continues to play well and turn his season around, having scored six goals and adding five helpers in his last five games, and tonight they get another favorable matchup against the Sharks who they just beat 7-5 two nights ago.
The Defenseman: Quinn Hughes
The reigning Norris winner is in one of the more exciting game environments tonight against Edmonton (who will be without McDavid again). Hughes leads the team in scoring and will be needed in both ends tonight.
The Value: Jackson Blake
On L1 with Aho/Svechnikov and in a good game environment.
The Stack: VGK (Hertl-Dorofeyev-Theodore)
28 points between this trio in their past five games, and they go on the road against a Blues defense that is average. I like riding the hot hand here; you’ll want to mix in Eichel and Stone as secondary pieces, but this is where I’ll be starting my Vegas stacks.
