DFS NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel – January 2

NHL Building Blocks – January 2

We’ve got the first full slate of 2025 tonight with 24 teams in action.  Where do we start?  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – January 2
The Goalie
: Connor Hellebuyck
Hellebuyck (24-5-1 / 2.00 / .930) is probably the frontrunner for the Vezina at the moment, and the Jets are at home against an Anaheim team that has scored fewer goals (89) than any team in the league.  Roster comfortably in all formats.

The Center: Nathan Mackinnon
One of the best matchups on the slate at home against a porous Sabres defense; goal and 10 helpers during his five-game point streak and continues to lead the league in scoring.

The Wing: Alex Ovechkin
Healthy and playing well (seven goals in his last five games); Minnesota has looked poor defensively lately, so he should get all the chances tonight.

The Defenseman: Zach Werenski
40 points in 38 games (also leads the team in shots with 145) and plays over 26 minutes a night.

The Value: Joel Kiviranta
Five goals and an assist in his last five games.

The Stack: TB (Kucherov-Point-Guentzel)
60 goals between this trio and facing a Sharks defense that’s given up the second most goals in the league this season.  Cirelli (14 goals) and Hagel (17 goals) are pieces to mix in.
