DFS NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel - January 11

NHL Building Blocks – January 11

We’ve got a ton of teams in action tonight, so there are some great spots to attack.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – January 11
The Goalie
: Filip Gustavsson
Great spot for Gus (18-7-3 / 2.44 / .918) as the Wild go on the road to face the Sharks who continue to rank near the bottom of the league in goals (sixth fewest) and shots per game (seventh lowest).  Minnesota’s four-game winning streak was snapped last game, so this should be a spot where they can get back on track.

The Center: Leon Draisaitl
Hard to not consider the league’s leading goalscorer facing a bad Blackhawks defense on the second half of a back-t0-back.  Should be a great play tonight.

The Wing: Matthew Knies
Vancouver is on a back-t0-back as well, and rather than go with one of the Leafs’ studs (who I’ll have definitely exposure to in tournaments), I like Knies here who is nicely priced and who has five goals and three assists during an eight-game point streak (and is third on the team in goals with 16 through 41 games).

The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Yet another player up against a team on a B2B, Makar’s ceiling is higher than any defenseman, and while this is a tougher matchup, he should have the chances he wants.  49 points in 43 games while playing over 25 and a half minutes a night, and he’ll be needed against an elite and complete Jets squad.

The Value: Barrett Hayton
Too cheap on either site (especially DK) for the matchup.

The Stack: EDM (McDavid-Draisaitl-Hyman)
The Oilers’ three studs are back together at even strength (as well as playing together on the power play per usual), and they get one of the worst defenses in the league in the Blackhawks (who played and lost last night).
