NHL Building Blocks – December 8
Four games to close out another great week in the NHL. There are a couple of good offenses on the slate, but is that where we need to live or should we go elsewhere? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – December 8
The Goalie: Jake Oettinger
Oettinger (13-6-0 / 2.44 / .911) continues to be elite in all facets (and it helps that Dallas is one of the best defensive teams in hockey as well). Calgary’s offense is not anything special, and I like Dallas at home in this one, so Oettinger is a lovely option in any format tonight.
The Center: Jack Hughes
Three goals and seven assists over his last five games, and he gets a great matchup tonight against an Avs team that’s been awful defensively this season. Fourth in the league in shots on goal (100 in 29 games) and eighth in scoring (35 points).
The Wing: Matvei Michkov
Three goals and four assists in his last three games (including two tallies yesterday) and is starting to run away with the Calder. Decent matchup today as well.
The Defenseman: Doug Hamilton
His floor is quite high (averaging three and a half shots per game while putting up 21 points in 29 games). Avs are elite offensively and bad defensively, so he’ll have the chance to shine in both ends.
The Value: Ross Colton
Min-price on FD and plays L2/PP2 (as well as killing penalties). Good game environment in this one, too.
The Stack: NJ (Hughes-Hischier-Hamilton)
The Devils are in a great spot tonight at home as they face a bad Avs defense. This trio has a great floor and ceiling. Additionally, if the high-ceiling Colorado offense goes off against Markstrom, that’s good as New Jersey has the ability to keep up (they have the second most goals in the league). The Avs are on the second half of a road back-to-back as well. Mix in Bratt and Noesen as great secondary pieces.
