NHL Building Blocks – December 7
We’ve got a six-game Saturday main slate featuring a few high-upside offenses; however, are those the spots to attack or can we find some lower-owned stacks to go with? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – December 7
The Goalie: Joseph Woll
Like Toronto and Woll (7-2-0 / 2.11 / .922) as the Maple Leafs are as legitimate on defense this season (they’ve given up just 63 goals through 25 games, the second fewest in the league) as they are offensively, and he is a big reason for that. Toronto is on the road against the Penguins tonight who are on the second half of a back-to-back, so I don’t mind him in this one.
The Center: Nathan Mackinnon
Love the spot for Mac and the Avs tonight as the Red Wings allow a ton of shots (fifth most in the league); he leads the league in scoring and in shots on goal.
The Wing: Brady Tkachuk
Great production (13 goals and 15 helpers in 24 games) and volume (second most shots on goal in the league with 103); facing a below-average Nashville defense and should get a lot of chances.
The Defenseman: Roman Josi
Great floor against a high-upside offense. Averaging six combined shots and blocks per game while scoring 23 points in 27 games (and averaging 25 and a half minutes per contest).
The Value: Fraser Minten
Cheap and sees PP2 time; in a good matchup.
The Stack: COL (Mackinnon-Rantanen-Makar)
This trio might have the highest upside of any group in the league, and they face a Wings team that allows the fifth most shots per game in the league. 32 goals and 109 assists have come from these three in just 27 games; mix in Lehkonen and Nichushkin as secondary/PP pieces.
