NHL Building Blocks – December 22
Four games on the main slate to wrap up the last weekend before Christmas. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – December 22
The Goalie: Connor Ingram
Not a ton of confidence in Ingram (6-4-3 / 3.61 / .871) as he’s not had the start he wanted this season, but this is a matchup play more than anything as the Ducks are on the road here in the altitude, and they’ve scored the fewest goals in the entire league.
The Center: Leon Draisaitl
Currently leading the league in scoring with 23 goals and is in the middle of a seven-game point streak (six goals and 12 helpers). The Seattle defense has been below average all season as well, and he’ll be a nice option over McDavid.
The Wing: Nikita Kucherov
Nine-game point streak (three goals and 17 helpers) and is tied for fourth in scoring with 49 points. Florida’s defense hasn’t been its usual stellar self, and he’s basically matchup-proof.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Can’t overlook him here even though he’s obvious: he’s got the highest upside of any defenseman in the league, and the Kraken are on the second half of a back-t0-back. Points in four straight and on pace for nearly 100 points on the season.
The Value: Connor Brown
Three goals and two assists over his past five games and kills penalties (which is good because the Senators can be aggressive).
The Stack: UTA (Guenther-Keller-Cooley)
There are more obvious places to start, but they’re cheap, they’re facing a really bad (maybe the worst?) defense in the league, and they’re playing very well (10 goals and 13 assists between them in their last five games).
