Part the Cloud: A Deep Dive into Wide Receivers and Defensive Schemes for Week 10

Welcome back to another week of “Part the Cloud”, where we take a deep dive into defensive coverage schemes and uncover potential hidden gems among wide receivers. Let’s break down last week’s performance and preview the plays that could give us an edge in Week 10.

GOTTA KNOW WHERE YOU’VE BEEN…

First, let’s review last week’s performances in a quick snapshot:

  • Jalen Tolbert
    • DK: 10.9 DKFP (2.1x)
    • FD: 9.4 FDFP (1.6x)
  • Courtland Sutton
    • DK: 24.28 DKFP (4.5x!)
    • FD: 19.78 FDFP (3.3x)
  • Terry McLaurin
    • DK: 15.9 DKFP (2.2x)
    • FD: 14.9 FDFP (2x)

Tolbert came through late with a touchdown to salvage his day, but it wasn’t the performance we hoped for. Scary Terry struggled to get involved in the middle of the field but managed to find the end zone on his two receptions. We had higher expectations for him, but we’ll take what we can get. The big winner was Courtland Sutton, who had a solid 7 receptions on 10 targets for 122 yards. Though he didn’t score a touchdown, he did throw one to Bo Nix, which only helped the cause.

Looking ahead to Week 10, let’s keep the momentum going and string together a couple of solid weeks.

…TO KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING

Top Plays of the Week

This week, I’ve got two main plays for you that I think can deliver great value.

Mike Williams

  • DK: $4100 | Projected Ownership: 0.22%
  • FD: $5000 | Projected Ownership: 0.17%

Hear me out…

Mike Williams is your classic deep-threat X receiver—a player who thrives stretching the field and catching bombs down the sideline. While today’s NFL often asks more of X receivers, Williams can still excel in his role. The key here is Russell Wilson, whose strong suit is the deep ball. Wilson should be able to exploit this against a Commanders defense that’s been vulnerable to the long pass.

With the Steelers dealing with some concerns around George Pickens and his effort in the run game, Williams could see more snaps as the team shifts to a more pass-heavy approach. The Steelers need to add nuance to their offense, and Williams has the potential to provide that spark. Plus, with little fanfare around him, he’s flying under the radar—perfect for a sneaky play this week. Teams love to integrate new talent quickly, and we’ve seen this play out with guys like DeAndre Hopkins in the past. Don’t be surprised if Williams becomes a key factor in Pittsburgh’s game plan.

Jordan Addison

  • DK: $5300 | Projected Ownership: 2.39%
  • FD: $6600 | Projected Ownership: 2.64%

Minnesota faces off against the worst secondary in the league this week, and with Jacksonville playing the most Man Coverage in the NFL, many fantasy players will flock to Justin Jefferson. While I’m not arguing that Jefferson isn’t a good play—he will likely feast—I want to bring Jordan Addison into the conversation as an alternative option.

Addison has shown he can be a key part of the offense, and in this matchup, he’ll get a favorable matchup against Ronald Darby—the weakest of Jacksonville’s cornerbacks. Darby is a much better fit for Zone Coverage, and given Addison’s skill set, he should be able to take advantage of that mismatch.

Though Addison saw a dip in production against Man Coverage last year, he’s actually been quite effective in these situations. His ability to run a diverse route tree and shake off coverage makes him a legitimate threat. In a game where Jefferson is likely to draw plenty of attention, Addison could emerge as a sneaky contributor.

Receiver Musings: Potential Value Picks

While Williams and Addison are my main targets this week, I also want to highlight a couple of other receivers who might provide value, especially for those looking for salary relief.

Parker Washington

  • DK: $3900 | Projected Ownership: 2.17%
  • FD: $5400 | Projected Ownership: 1.06%

There are injuries all over the Jaguars offense, which will likely cap their ceiling in this matchup. However, Parker Washington has shown an ability to work the middle of the field, a skill that should be useful for new starting quarterback Mac Jones. With a solid matchup against the Jaguars’ cornerbacks, Washington could easily become a favorite target for Jones. The Jaguars will likely have to air it out, as their run game has been ineffective.

Mason Tipton

  • DK: $4500 | Projected Ownership: 1.35%
  • FD: $5700 | Projected Ownership: 1.19%

The Raiders’ wide receiver room is decimated by injuries, and Derek Carr will need to rely on someone to help move the ball through the air. While I expect a big game from Alvin Kamara, Mason Tipton presents an intriguing value play. He’s shown he can get downfield, and with Carr’s gunslinger mentality, Tipton could be a surprise beneficiary of a few deep shots. With a new manager in place, we could see a boost in production for these underdog receivers.
