NHL Building Blocks – November 9
Nine games on the ninth. Fun times! Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – November 9
The Goalie: Darcy Kuemper
Could have the best matchup on the slate as the Kings are -210 favorites at home against Columbus. The Blue Jackets’ offense has been decent this season (40 goals in 12 games at almost 31 shots per), but they are still the Blue Jackets, and Kuemper (4-1-3 / 2.72 / .900) has been solid this season in net.
The Center: Dylan Strome
Four goals and 15 helpers through the Caps’ first 13 games, and he’s been a big reason why Ovie is looking as great as he is. They played last night, but they also get a porous Blues defense that allows three and a half goals and nearly 31 shots per contest.
The Wing: Martin Necas
Can’t argue with the hot hand here as he’s on an eight-game point streak, amassing six goals and 12 helpers during that stretch, and he and the Canes get a questionable-at-best Avs defense tonight.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Tied for third in the league in scoring with 23 points (and on pace for a ridiculous and unsustainable 135 points for the season), Makar and the Avs have a tough matchup tonight against the Canes, but his floor is good and his ceiling is higher than any other defenseman.
The Value: Max Pacioretty
Getting extra ice time with Matthews out; six points through 11 games and is L2 with Nylander/Tavares as well as PP2.
The Stack: NYR1 (Panarin-Zibanejad-Lafreniere)
The Wings played last night and are allowing the second most shots per game on the season, and this new-look top line for the Rangers has a great ceiling; they have combined for 14 goals and 23 assists through 12 games. Mix in Trocheck and Kreider for additional power play correlation.
