NHL Building Blocks – November 24
One game tonight to launch us into Thanksgiving week. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – November 24
The Goalie: Anthony Stolarz
One game tonight, but we’re going with the home goalie (and one who’s been solid thus far this season). Stolarz (7-3-2 / 2.18 / .927) has really helped stabilize the Leafs’ defense this season, which is a good reason why they’re first in the Atlantic a quarter of the way through. Utah’s offense just isn’t clicking, either, managing just 49 goals through 19 games, and they’re on the second half of a back-to-back.
The Center: John Tavares
Up to nine goals (second on the team) and 10 assists through 19 games and looking really solid. He’s got points in five of his last six games as well.
The Wing: Mitch Marner
Looking for floor and ceiling on a showdown, and we find it in Marner who not only plays all three situations but also has been a big beneficiary of Matthews being out. He’s got three goals and five helpers in his last five games.
The Defenseman: Mikhail Sergachev
Sergachev has established himself as Utah’s top defenseman, leading the team in ice time (over 25 and a half minutes, four minutes more than the next skater), and he’ll be needed in both ends tonight.
The Value: Fraser Minten
Finds himself on PP1 with the big boys; managed a goal last game and also kills penalties.
The Stack: TOR (Nylander-Marner)
This duo is separate at even strength and together on PP1, so you’re getting exposure to multiple situations (and Marner kills penalties as well). Mix in Tavares (who you could easily stack with them as a core, but on the small slate, breaking them up a smidge helps get you different), McMann, and Robertson as secondary pieces.
