NHL Building Blocks – November 23
Eleven games on this Saturday evening slate. Lots of good choices, but which ones stand out? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – November 23
The Goalie: Pyotr Kochetkov
Good combination of floor and ceiling here. Columbus can shoot the puck (they did put up seven goals on Tampa Bay the other night), but Carolina’s defense is elite (only 42 goals allowed in 18 games while allowing just 25 shots per, best in the league) and Kochetkov (10-2-0 / 2.30 / .907) is a big reason why. Solid play in all formats.
The Center: Jack Eichel
Eichel is having his usual elite season (nine goals and 20 assists through 20 games while adding 60 shots on goal), and he and the Golden Knights get a Montreal team that allows over three and a half goals per game.
The Wing: David Pastrnak
The Bruins haven’t been good at all this season, but Pasta still has a solid floor (he leads the league in shots on goal with 87 through just 21 games and has eight goals as well), and the Wings give up the fourth most shots per game, so he should have a lot of chances tonight. He’s priced down a smidge, which is attractive.
The Defenseman: Zach Werenski
One of the most underrated defensemen in the league and he absolutely shouldn’t be; three goals and six assists in his last five games as part of his team-leading 19 points (he’s also third in the entire league in shots on goal). He sees nearly 26 minutes a night and will be needed in both ends against a tough Hurricanes team.
The Value: Kent Johnson
Good price and on PP1; Isles’ defense isn’t good.
The Stack: CAR (Aho-Necas-Svechnikov)
The Hurricanes are somehow always overlooked, but they are one of the most complete teams in hockey, and offensively they have as good of a matchup as any tonight. This trio has combined for 23 goals and 42 assists thus far; mix in Roslovic (tied for second on the team with 11 goals) and Gostibehere for additional correlation.
