NHL Building Blocks – November 18
Six nice-looking games to start off the week tonight. We’ve got a couple of really high-upside offenses and a couple of sneaky spots that could match their ceiling, so where do we go? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – November 18
The Goalie: Jake Oettinger
Will be the chalk goalie on the slate and for good reason as the Ducks may have the league’s worst offense. Oettinger (9-3-0 / 2.27 / .917) has been his usual elite self, as has the Stars’ defense as a whole, and at home, I don’t see that changing tonight. Playable in all formats.
The Center: Leon Draisaitl
Tied for the league lead in goals with 13 and in a great game environment tonight. Always a valid pivot from McDavid as well.
The Wing: Cole Caufield
Has definitely taken the next step as he finds himself tied for second in the league with 12 goals, and the Oilers’ defense isn’t that intimidating.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
The league’s highest-upside defenseman is always in play; he finds himself tied for seventh in hockey with 25 points (and is on pace for a 100-point campaign) as he plays 24 and a half minutes a night.
The Value: Jonathan Drouin
He’s played two games since coming back from injury and looks to have his legs mostly under him; paired with Mackinnon on L1 and in a good matchup.
The Stack: DET (Larkin-Debrincat-Kane)
This trio gets one of the best matchups on the slate, and they’ll be cheaper than some of the other stud stacks, which makes me like how you can construct your lineups with them. 20 of the Wings’ 42 goals come from this trio; mix in Raymond and Seider as the vast majority of Detroit’s production is consolidated within these five.
