Welcome back to another week of “Part the Cloud”, where we delve into defensive coverage schemes and uncover hidden gem Wide Receivers.
GOTTA KNOW WHERE YOU’VE BEEN…
Let’s review last week’s performance in the context of the DraftKings Milly Maker:
- Jordan Whittington: 0 FPTS, 7.5% ownership (Value: 0.0x)
- Romeo Doubs: 17.4 FPTS, 4.8% ownership (Value: 3.2x)
- Jalen Coker: 2 FPTS, 5.8% ownership (Value: 0.7x)
- Khalil Shakir: 13.5 FPTS, 0.9% ownership (Value: 2.3x)
Analysis:
– Romeo Doubs had a solid outing. We should continue targeting zone schemes with him.
– Khalil Shakir performed decently despite facing a tough Titans defense; future matchups may be best avoided.
– Unfortunately, Jordan Whittington and Jalen Coker did not provide any returns.
It’s Week 8. Do you know where your Wide Receivers are?
…TO KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING
Here are three key plays for this week:
1. Rashod Bateman
– DraftKings: $4,300 | Projected Ownership: 2.74%
– FanDuel: $5,700 | Projected Ownership: 2.12%
Cleveland employs a lot of Man Coverage, and this is where Bateman excels. Although Cleveland’s defense isn’t performing at its peak, they remain strong against tight ends and the run. Bateman’s matchup against Martin Emerson Jr., who has allowed 4 TDs and a 60% catch rate this season, looks promising. With Zay Flowers facing a challenging matchup due to injury, Bateman will need to step up.
2. Christian Watson
– DraftKings: $4,100 | Projected Ownership: 1.67%
– FanDuel: $5,500 | Projected Ownership: 2.61%
The Packers receivers are projected to have low ownership coupled with a high implied team total. Watson typically doesn’t excel against Man or Zone coverage, but his current matchup is enticing. Lining up against Ronald Darby, who allows receptions on 76% of targets and has given up 3 TDs this season, Watson could be primed for a breakout game. He often delivers big performances a couple of times a season, and this week could be his moment.
3. Devaughn Vele
– DraftKings: $3,400 | Projected Ownership: 2.44%
– FanDuel: $4,000 | Projected Ownership: 2.16%
Bo Nix’s Broncos face a struggling and unhealthy Carolina defense. With a high implied team total, this game is favorable for the run game but also presents an opportunity for Nix to develop as a passer. Vele boasts an impressive catch rate of over 81%, and his matchup is particularly favorable, as the opposing corner allows a catch on two out of every three targets. We only have a small sample, but Vele has thrived against defenses utilizing Cover 3, which is what Carolina predominantly runs.
