Part the Cloud: A Deep Dive into Wide Receivers and Defensive Schemes for Week 5

Dive deep with us into defensive coverage schemes and discover hidden gem wide receivers to elevate your game.

Last Week’s Performance: A Quick Recap

DraftKings Milly Maker Highlights:

Player Fantasy Points (FPTS) Ownership % Value (x)
DJ Moore 11.2 5.8% 1.7x
Jayden Reed 30.1 8.1% 5.0x
Brian Thomas Jr. 21.9 4.7% 4.1x
Rome Odunze 2.0 8.2% 0.38x

Chicago’s offense displayed its characteristic inefficiency in what should have been a favorable matchup. Moving forward, we need to be discerning with Bears receivers. In contrast, Jayden Reed had an explosive performance, while Brian Thomas Jr. solidified his role as Jacksonville’s go-to option.

Looking Ahead: Week 5 Opportunities

This week is shaping up to be intriguing with numerous value plays across all positions. Here are a few wide receivers that have caught my eye:

1. Curtis Samuel

  • DraftKings Price: $4,200
  • Projected Ownership: 2.63%
  • FanDuel Price: $5,400
  • Projected Ownership: 1.66%

After nursing turf toe at the start of the season, Samuel is now healthy and ready to shine. With Khalil Shakir ruled out, a slot opportunity opens up. Last season, 40% of Samuel’s routes were slants and curls, showing an 80% success rate against zone coverage. With Josh Allen’s top routes aligning with Samuel’s strengths, this matchup looks promising.

2. Bo Melton

  • DraftKings Price: $3,300
  • Projected Ownership: 1.25%
  • FanDuel Price: $4,300
  • Projected Ownership: 0.95%

Originally expected to be Romeo Doubs’ breakout moment, I believe Melton is next man up instead. Despite a modest 3-target performance last week, his targeting on 22% of routes against zone coverage last season hints at potential. Working further downfield, he boasts an 80% catch rate versus zone. The Rams’ weak pass coverage opens a door for him.

3. Tutu Atwell

  • DraftKings Price: $4,900
  • Projected Ownership: 6.48%
  • FanDuel Price: $5,800
  • Projected Ownership: 5.64%

Although the Rams seem to funnel their offense through Kyren Williams, they maintain the 6th highest neutral pass rate in the league. Expecting a pass-heavy game script, Atwell is primed for production. His versatility in route running and ability to exploit mismatches will make him a key player against the Packers secondary.
