DFS NHL Snipes and Grinders for DraftKings and FanDuel - 10/25/24

Small slate tonight so we have to get our picks correct and make full stands and full fades. This is how high variance exploitative DFS players play. There are a few chalky spots that we can navigate through here.

Correlated Snipe #1 – Leon Draisaitl – Viktor Arvidsson

Oh boy, i just looked, and the Oilers are mixing it up early in the year to see if they can find some magic with their new pieces from the offseason. Arvidsson is one of their shiny new toys and they are pairing him with Draisaitl on line 2 as well as on the top powerplay unit. The Oilers have started slow, but are in a prime spot here at home against the atrocious defense and goaltending of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Draisaitl stacks are leverage against McDavid stacks, although of-course you could play both and get really weird elsewhere. People may also not see that the coach is experimenting with new looks and lines early on and may stack McDavid with the wrong players. But here at DFSA, we are on top of it for you.

Correlated Snipe #2 – Sidney Crosby – Bryan Rust

Welp, I guess this means that this game is stackable, which it is. It is a great game to stack in general, but it is especially on a smaller slate. The Oilers defense has been awful, and I do not trust either of their goaltenders either. Very simple explanation here, but the Penguins have been scoring goals this season.

Oct 28, 2023; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ryan Graves (27) and right wing Bryan Rust (17) and left wing Jake Guentzel (59) celebrates a goal by center Sidney Crosby (right center) against the Ottawa Senators during the second period at PPG Paints Arena. Correlated Snipe #3 – Ryan O’Reilly – Filip Forsberg – Roman Josi

The Blackhawks are improved, but they are still the Blackhawks. We could also go the Marchessault/Stamkos route here, but I am trusting Forsberg to keep firing that puck. O’Reilly will be trusted this game to keep Bedard in check, and Josi will be trusted to dominate this inferior team. The slow start has to be a hiccup for the Preds, as I believe they will figure it out more and more as the season rolls along. I am simply playing the superior players in this DFS matchup on a smaller slate.

Grinders:

Pavel Dorofeyev – Cheap, on line 2 with Hertl, and on the top powerplay unit. Big game last game.

Gustav Nyquist – Cheap top liner in a good matchup for Nashville.
